No but when I tried to change Mastodon servers, I was frustrated to learn that I could carry over my followers but nothing else. The platform highlighted “easy mobility,” but I found that to be misleading.

I think the biggest problem that Mastodon et. al need to solve is changing servers/accounts. There needs to be an easy way to move servers while retaining past posts, etc.

I think that it’s actually a good thing. If a criminal record disqualified you, it could be easy to cook up bogus charges against a political opponent just to kick them off the ballot. We also have along history in the USA of black folks getting charged with crimes at a disproportionately high rate.

One of my students has been begging me to buy Ultrakill since last year, and I keep saying no just to spite him. Maybe I’ll finally give it a try!

I’ve been excited for this game since the original trailer (I think it was a Nintendo direct). I have a few games to finish first, then I’ll get this.

OK - I thought this was the case, but wasn’t sure. At any rate, a microSD card is a good purchase (but that’s true for all of these handhelds).

It’s definitely not as comfortable as something like the Steam Deck, but I played so much Switch while commuting on the train since it came out. It’s been a real joy to have. It’s also WAY smaller than any of the current-gen handhelds.

What do you mean by “cart games being downloaded in full to the system?”

I might be in the minority, but I generally prefer to wait and avoid early access, beta, etc. Whenever I participate, I get burned out before the final game releases, so I don’t get to enjoy the complete artistic vision.

People don’t want to admit it, but going vegan/vegetarian is a HUGE way to avoid zoonotic diseases in the future. Anywhere that groups of humans and groups of animals closely co-mingle is a risk factor.

I played all of Horizon Zero Dawn on a Steam Deck, so it might work for you. You can get it for like $10 on key resell websites

That only works if you’re using something Linux + Jellyfin, though. Any set top box like a Fire Stick or Chromecast will sell your data too.

There was a really interesting interview on The Verge with the CEO of Telly. Basically, TVs are so cheap now because they make all of their profit selling your data. His pitch is “why pay for a TV and then also have your data mined. They should at least give you the TV for free.”

It’s frustrating because even if we buy a “premium” devices like an LG C3 or one of the nice Samsung TVs, they’re still going to spy on us. (PiHole FTW).

I can agree with this. Or pirating old games that aren’t available through GOG, Steam, etc. Like if I want to play Battletoads, I don’t have many options…

I feel like the “pirate everything” mindset focuses on shitty corporations but ignores that paying for media also helps the creators pay their rent.

The fact that our economic system requires never-ending growth to remain solvent is so crazy to me. And somehow many of the serious economists don’t see an issue with this.

Even better: let’s create an economic system that doesn’t require endless population growth

Obviously not trying to downplay this HUGE humanitarian crisis in Gaza, but why does media/politics always frame these things like adult men aren’t victims also?

I’m in a similar boat. Before I had my Steam Deck, I played retro Nintendo games on the Switch. However now I prefer to move between my Steam Deck, PSPi6, and Anbernic handhelds (depending on what I want to emulate). It’s annoying that you can’t get the save files off the Switch, though. I have some games that I got pretty far into, and I would like to move those over.

Hopefully it’s not a deeper issue with the plane design, but Boeing really can’t catch a break with this model.

If you’re looking for a free alternative, check out how to use Markdown files. Obsidian is a popular (but not open-source) program. The beautiful of .md is that it’s plain text and can be easily imported into a variety of applications, including a simple text editor like Notepad. Here’s a good overview video.

It’s a really great system for writing technical documents. I used it a ton in college for my research papers.

I think that if we’re doing real-history FPS games, I would like to see other conflicts. Give me a War of 1812 game or let me play as a Chinese soldier during Japan’s mid-1900s occupation or something.

The folks who run the archive website have some weird vendetta against Cloudflare.

I love Game Pass, but I don’t like monopolies. I wish regulators had blocked this. Also: https://www.theonion.com/just-six-corporations-remain-1819564741

Next week: Google is closing down its traffic light program. It’s Mad Max on the roads now.

These corporate “apologies” always rub me the wrong way. A policy like this had to pass through so many hands before getting certified. You just know that a whole room full of C-Suite executives genuinely thought this was a good idea and couldn’t think through its potential problems.

I totally agree, but emulation still requires tons of unpaid work by enthusiasts. If/when Sony stops selling the PS3, they should turn over the source code and allow the community to make something really great. It’s not like they make any money of used console and game sales.

Yes. I can imagine a middle-ground of copyright. If the IP is still being used, it enters the public domain on the regular schedule. But if it’s abandoned, it enters earlier… perhaps after 5-10 years of non-use.

My friend and I were discussing this over the weekend. Games are inherently different than movies, books, and music. They’re tied to specific hardware and operating systems that may not be available anymore. I argue that if a game is no longer legally purchasable from the publishers or developer, it should be legally permitted to pirate it. Even EA agrees! They do not pursue copyright claims against LOTR games, as they lost the publishing license from New Line Cinemas years ago.

The only thing I wish Apple Reminders has is the ability to set a recurring task like “30 days after task completion”

I think you’re giving them too much credit 😂

Your original point remains valid though. MS needs to allow devs to adjust games more for the XSX/XSS difference

Just a quick correction: Series S is current-gen. You might be thinking of the One S, which is understandable because Microsoft has a monkey coming up with their product names.

I’m glad that one of them is a Bard. Someone needs to play those weird moralizing songs.

I bet you could make a cool game centered around that thematic visual of moving pieces around a map. Or like Ender’s Game style

It’s not a final ruling, but rather a stay to allow the current system to remain in place until it properly comes before the court.

Check out Clone Hero! I’m away from my computer, but there are archives that let you import all of the Rock Band and Guitar Hero songs. You can use/mod old controllers or even 3D print your own.

I was very pleased with the world-building and lore in Horizon: ZD! The cultures and different factions felt genuinely unique and novel.

I just wanted to share this since it can sometimes be hard to find communities on other servers. It’s still picking up steam (ha ha), but growing!

I beat Tears of the Kingdom last night and wanted to share a few thoughts (no spoilers)
First of all, that final battle was a *wild* ride! One of the phases took me a minute to figure out, but it was so much fun, and really connected with some of the unique themes of this entry. I didn’t get nearly as close to 100% as I did in BotW. In the first game, I did every shrine and all of the side quests, but there is just so much more content to this game. I worried that if I tried to complete everything before the final battle, the game would overstay its welcome, and I would finish with a feeling of “just get it over with.” I’ve actually found that sentiment to be true with a lot of larger games recently. I want to end on a high emotional note, even if it means completing less side content.
