Valve is truly one of the last respected game companies. Sure, they make a lot of money and take a 30% cut from developers on Steam, but because of how satisfied their users are, they keep coming back and keep buying more games, which is a win in the long term. Too many companies think short-term or quarterly while Valve seems to look at the big picture. I give a lot of credit to Gabe for not truly selling out at any point. And if it hasn’t happened by this point, I don’t see it happening in the future. It would have happened by now if so.

I think you’re overthinking this. Twitter used to be a place where I could keep up with my friends. Now, it’s a place filled with many forms of hate. Because of this, I no longer wish to use it, so I left.

I personally have no care in the world for what happens with Twitter. Why should I? It becomes overrun with bigots? So what?

Remaining on a platform filled with hate is an indicator that you’re ok with that. I am not, so I left. end of story.

Love this channel, love that you guys over here love it as well. Thanks for being cool, beehaw.

I would say this: If it’s just you accessing your server and nobody else, self-hosting is fine.

When it comes to giving other people access to your server, no matter how close of friends you may be, I would recommend renting a cheap VPS online. The security benefits are just that much better.

It’s a ghost. Always sleep with a vacuum.

What’s the better choice, hosting images locally or using imgur to host your images for you?
I believe there are pros and cons for both. Imgur is great because you truly don't have to think about disk space or bandwidth. Imgur is not great because they can delete your posts at any time without warning and leave holes on the interenet, especially if we're talking 5, 10 , 20 years from now. Should I invest in a beefy server to store all of my photo needs without storage anixety? Or should I just rely on a larger company to handle it for me? I think I'm already answering my own question by writing this post out, but I'd love to hear from the self hosting community.

I just visit the top Lemmy instances, sort by local category, and follow the ones I like on each instance. It doesn’t matter if I follow 4 different channels called !technology cause I’ll just get them all in my feed. I’m following self hosting on both lemmy.ml and lemmy.world and I get posts from both. I couldn’t care less where it comes from, as long as I’m following I’m good to go.

There are many sites and list of large Lemmy servers right now. Just check out beehaw, lemmy.ml, lemmy.world, sh.itjust.works, etc.

I love how stock android looks but agree that it’s become too iPhone like. One UI has become a great balance!

It’s cool that you can understand a topic without being a huge fan. Cool to keep up with the entire industry as a whole. Good stuff.

I think you spoke on the most important point. New Super Mario Bros lasted its tenure for far too long, basically killing the entire 2D Mario franchise. This breath of fresh air will continue to inspire future generations of developers to continue to care about 2D Mario. Feels good, considering my entire childhood was spent playing 2D platformers on Nintendo consoles.

Yeah I definitely don’t pre order games anymore. But I’ll be picking this one up on release for sure.

Anybody else excited for Super Mario Bros. Wonder? I think the animations look really slick and it's awesome to see 2d mario that doesn't look and play like a game that came out for the Nintendo DS in 2006.

How stupid can you be? They were literally told ahead of time that the information was incorrect, and they doubled down anyway! Not admitting you’re wrong is an epidemic and seriously needs to be taught more to children if we have any hope for the future.

I saw this coming from a mile away. Sad, but no longer necessary.
