It’s basically like. Someone drawing a picture. Then watching the buttons you’re pressing on a controller. And then drawing a new picture. And based on the game that they think you’re playing in their head trying to guess what the next picture ought to look like. With no error correction and no conceptualization other than what the next picture should look like.

The… many limitations of this is the inability of image generators to rationalize 3 dimensional space. It can only approximate it based on what it thinks should appear on the screen. It lacks any ability to keep track of variable information. It really is more like a Doom-style hallucination than anything else. Some of the videos on that article are truly bizarre looking. I’d imagine after a few minutes every single one of them would devolve into an endless loop of being trapped in non-sensical geometry or killing the same enemy over and over again as the AI has no way of remembering the enemy existed to begin with, let alone that you killed it.

I’ll be honest I don’t think there is much use in this at all. It suffers from the same limits as any other model AI. Believability at a glance is not believability under scrutiny and if it’s only believable at a glance then there’s not much practical use in it. The advance in computational power and model sophistication required to stand up under scrutiny is massive.

There’s already dozens of forks. There was before all of this even started. Sad to see it go, but the app itself and how it functions will pretty well certainly go on. Tachiyomi isn’t even an app that needs routine updates, it’s the extensions that do. So existing setups will probably work indefinitely so long as extensions continue getting updates…

So, sounds very “oh fuck” but for end users probably means literally nothing changes. Unless something breaks the functionality of the app, which really just means the reader and library and everything, it doesn’t need active maintenance. Bugs might crop up occasionally, but everything looks fine as of now.

Unofficial extensions are still being updated. I’ve got working bato and everything. Haven’t run into issues so far. I’m not sure how this korean company got to them or why, since they’re not even hosting the content. But either way, things should be good for now.

Tachiyomi is too good to fail. It’s the best manga reader that has ever existed. It’s open source. If they need to offload extension support onto less organized entities, then so be it. The community isn’t going to disappear.

Someone will surely find a workaround to this. Half my library on tachiyomi is from mangadex lol

Edit: I did find a workaround, an unofficial repository for mangadex and bato extensions. As of the moment bato extension seems to be broken, but hopefully a patch will be released soon. The developer of the extension still plans to maintain it afaik

NB literally does not have tenants’ rights. Literally nothing. Your landlord can do essentially anything they want to you. The only person who can challenge them is the rentalsman, and they will 99% of the time side with the leeches.

Well, when your rent is 50% of your income and your food costs take up almost 30% of your income and your bills take up the remainder and you’re constantly one missed paycheck from homelessness and starvation and your family are in equally dire straits and so cannot bail you out - having children becomes entirely impossible.

You say you weren’t financially prepared, but evidently it was financially possible for you to have children. For at least half of my generation it just point blank is not possible.

Its not just big metros that are having rental market crisis. My hometown has a monthly 9% increase in the cost of apartment rentals and has for months now. And we’re far from a metro of any kind. Apartments that went for 600/month in 2021 are going for 1500 or more a month now. And a lot of currently available units are even worse off than that.

To even have a single bedroom you’d have to be making 34$/hour. And if you’re making 34$ an hour, minimum wage being 15.50, what the hell are you supposed to do if you make 20$ an hour? Sleep in a homeless shelter?

Don’t they keep telling us that working full time will provide for us? Weren’t we all promised that when we were children? “Grow up and work full time and you can get a home and make a living” well damn eh you can’t even even have a 1 bedroom apartment working full time lol. Not unless you make 14 dollars more an hour than the average income.

So if you’re a single parent you and your child should just… what? Work full time and sleep on the street?

I never said it did enable it, nor did I say that we shouldn’t have legal options for people who are suffering.

But again, this isn’t entirely an issue of medical ethics. I’m not saying we shouldn’t have MAID, I am saying that every single time the subject comes up we should be saying as loudly and as frequently as possible that many of these people are dying of capitalism. They are dying of wage slavery. They are killing themselves because capitalism has decided they have no worth, and they are facing homelessness starvation and spiraling health conditions as a consequence.

You’re misunderstanding me. I am not anti MAID. I’m not going to share too much personal details here but I’ve dealt with suicide many times in my adult life. I am well aware of how real the suffering of the mentally ill is. That only galvanizes my conviction that if you’re talking about this subject and you’re not pointing the finger at the Canadian government and absolutely demanding that they expand disability income, create UBI, and expand public Healthcare and ensure every Canadian citizen has access to widespread and competent mental health care - then you don’t have any actual interest in helping the mentally ill. Only in making sure that death is an option, which is kinda like ensuring veteran’s welfare after deployment by making sure they can kill themselves when society fails them. You can advocate for both. You can think that MAID should be an option and that our government has to actually make society a livable place.

Not at all, its just important not to lose sight of what the actual problem is here. The problem being that capitalism causes mental health problems, and makes it almost impossible to completely treat many mental health problems. We can’t concede that point, least of all now when it is a subject of national debate. People don’t want to just watch our vulnerable and impoverished choose death over continuing to suffer in ways they don’t have to. Theres a real point of radicalization here, a point where people want solutions and we can actually offer real ones to them.

Yeah, like I think the option should exist once you’ve passed certain qualifiers. But being mentally ill has so many consequences from capitalism. I myself struggle with metal health at times, and those times are always at their absolute worst financial problems come up. And our society is extremely difficult to get started in. Most people my age are only one paycheck away from desperation. When you’re mentally ill poverty is a symptom, you’re that much less capable of working. And society refuses to help you in the long term. You’ll always have to face your own unreliability as an existential threat, which worsens how unreliable you are.

It is morally wrong to euthanize people because capitalism has decided they have no worth, and because they can never have a life worth living without society changing. But thats almost never what people want to talk about, they want to talk about how it’s just wrong to let the unwell die. Never about how they can prevent us from becoming so unwell we cannot function.

It was at Toshodaiji, which is a 1200 year old very well maintained temple and a designated UNESCO world heritage site. I am very doubtful that he could be unaware of what the temple is, as its very much a tourist attraction and not just some random buildings. He is a kid, so I dont think it merits anything extreme in terms of punishment but the crime in this case is pretty serious. But he is 17 and definitely knew better. Any adult would likely face legal consequences.

I was just going to say, handbrake is a good way to cut back a bit on file size if you get the settings right. It is very taxing on hardware tho.

I’m not saying that all leftists aren’t bigots or that bigotry never happens in leftist spaces, but bigotry is the rule in fascist ones. Fascism is bigotry, it’s a core part of the ideology itself. For that reason they’re not comparable.

You can’t be a fascist and not be bigoted. You can be a marxist-leninist and not as a rule hate minorities. I encourage you to go to lemmygrad yourself, see if you find any hatred of minorities being tolerated there. You just won’t.

I can coexist in a space with them, they’re not going to start calling for the genocide of minority groups. They will deny that genocides have happened, which to be clear is bad but there’s a fundamental difference between “these events didnt happen” and a fascist saying “let’s mass murder all the minorities because they’re biologically impure”. I can coexist in a space with one, with the other my murder or the murder of any other marginalized group is as a rule being outright advocated for.

No matter how hard you try tankies even at their worst are not fascists. To try and equate the two is beyond ridiculous. You can point out that some historical regimes have done a lot of horrible things, fair enough. But ideologically marxist-leninists are not comparable on any level to fascists.

I can not, and will never under any circumstances tolerate the prescience of fascism to any degree.

Because the people who run the majority of instances are leftists. And despite my many grievances with marxist-leninist ideology and particularly with stalinism, I’d rather talk with tankies who at least claim to respect me as a minority than nazis who actively wish death upon me.

Leftism should be tolerated because leftism advocates for the rights of the workers. Leftism is the way the world can and should be. Whichever flavor of it, they’re all better than fascism. And wherever fascists will gather their sole purpose is to propagate hatred against minorities. Leftists are overwhelming welcoming and accepting of minorities. They are no threat to the acceptance of marginalized peoples.

Moms for liberty is the group running around sending fake parents to speak at school district meetings to get LGBT content banned from school right? How shocking, never would’ve guessed people who spend their time doing everything they can to take away minority rights would also like Hitler🙄

It’s interesting. Needs some more formatting options imo. I liked how in boost for reddit the titles of posts were always at least as big as the preview of the body of the post. Just makes it look much cleaner imo. Could use a font size option. Could use some color options too eventually.

Also, it needs a “Subscribed” page. Default lemmy has this page that only shows you content from communities youre subscribed to. You should see about getting that feed on your app.

Overall though great work, it looks really promising thus far and I’m impressed with how quickly you’ve put this together.

Muting means other people can still comment on your stuff, and everyone else but you can see it.

Its so transphobes and homophobes can continue commenting on LGBT people’s content.
