Right? I know Sam Altman sucks but I don’t know if he was fired for more profit or less, or what exactly is going on. I’m not sure how to react to these articles besides surprise and bemusement.

How long has Gamurs owned The Escapists? I thought it was getting suspicious lately how many different things they were trying to get money so quickly.

They were putting more sponsor segments in ZP videos at different points and Nick would respond in the comments when people complained, trying to find a good place to put them. Then they started letting Yahtzee curse more and offering the uncensored version on their subscription service. And these changes were quickly one right after the other. I should’ve known something like this was coming, but I’m still sad about it. I hate capitalism so much. Why does these corporations have to ruin all my favorite things?

Same worries here. This seems like a bad idea. No idea what they could be thinking. The retaliation will be brutal.

People have been smoking Marijuana since the 60’s and it’s still a federally illegal drug at the level of heroine. Laws don’t change quickly in the US at all.

Is there a way to link it to make it easier to access from Kbin?

Maybe it’s @ sign instead of the “!”? Try this one and let’s see: @tabletop@beehaw.org

Otherwise maybe someone else will come in and say if it’s possible lol.

!boardgames@feddit.de / @boardgames@feddit.de is also pretty popular.

It makes me want to move, but all my family and friends are here, and my SO’s job which she enjoys and has coworkers she likes. It’s so tough =( I wish this country was is willing to fight. I also wonder what it would take. The BLM movement was good, but a lot of the gains from that were rolled back. So I guess anything less than citizens getting shot in the streets doesn’t cause anything and we have to settle for this slow moving fascist take over.

I know it’s become a meme, but because capitalism. I’m surprised gamers more gamers aren’t against it because it only ever makes our favorite hobby so much worse.

It’s already been hurting them a lot it sounds like. I don’t think Baldur’s Gate is the first game to not release on Xbox because they couldn’t achieve system parity with the S. If they’ve really softened on it, then that’s a good idea. Better late than never.

Maybe it’s my VPN provider then. I’ll have to try it with another one. I’ve followed so many of those documents. Do you use Port Forwarding with PrivadoVPN?

I’ve spent all today and yesterday trying to get this working with PureVPN and QBitTorrent and it hasn’t been working much at all 😭. It’s been painfully slow when it works at all, which has been rare. Although it has been doing the job of hiding the Docker container IP so that’s good, and it makes me think it’s something minor, like port forwarding not working because of PureVPN or something off with my settings, or it’s a qBittorrent issue, or Docker and Linux inexperience.

Admittedly troubleshooting has been slow because I’m super new to Linux and Docker and keep running into permission and file system issues. Running the VPN and torrent straight in my computer was way easier, but I’d really love to be able to run Plex and a torrent client on the same computer on at the same time with Plex not going through the VPN and the torrent client going through it, which is what this seems great for.

About what Hearts of Iron? I tried that game once (3 or 4, don’t remember) and basically gave up when the tutorial ended and I still had no idea how to do anything.

I’m not even sure how I would go about playing this game nowadays but it did always sound fun, or at least interesting.

It looks very similar to Plex, right? Do you have a tl;Dr on the advantages of jellyfin?

Ooh that is nice and cheap. I’ll have to look into that. Also, thanks for the explanation of transcoding! I’ve been seeing that term everywhere.

On a separate note, it’s nice to see Lemmy building up it’s own knowledge base on these issues so I, and future people in my position, won’t have to rely on googled Reddit answers lol.

Nope. I just had Plex already installed on my Smart TV because some friends let me share their Plex servers and as a techie person I wanted to experiment with doing that, too, rather than asking them to get the content I wanted.

Tbh, I haven’t looked into jellyfin too much. Would you say you prefer that over Plex?

Was it cheaper than $200? That’s one draw of the Nvidia Shield and Raspberry Pi other people in this thread have mentioned. Although I’m sure they’re less powerful.

When do you need transcoding?

Thanks! That’s a good actionable next step. I’ll have to look into what benefits Plex pass gives, too.

Sounds nice and simple. May I ask which NAS you use of recommend? Or maybe it doesn’t matter?

You got it, that’s basically what I’ve got so far. And thanks for the suggestions! I’m going to look into these two options.

I’ll probably pick the one that takes up the least amount of space. Hopefully I have enough room behind my desk for all these new devices. I’m already taking up so many plugs with lights, cell phone chargers, the router, wifi, work laptop, personal laptop, monitors, and random LED strips, speakers, a device dock, etc.

Next Steps for a Beginner Plex Setup? Where to Upgrade First
I've used the megathread to make a super basic proof-of-concept for my own streaming setup, and I'm not sure where to prioritize upgrading first and in what way. Any help is appreciated! Current setup: I got a subscription to a VPN, so I figure I'll use that until it runs out. I have that with my main PC (a laptop, I haven't been able to save for a proper gaming PC yet), a torrent client, and Plex. I tested it out with one TV show and one movie with the Plex app on my TCL Series 4 Roku TV and it seems to work! The video and audio quality work even better when I turn my VPN off and it can tell my server is "nearby", but whatever. Possible Improvements I've Seen People Talk About: I figure I should split off some of these services from my main laptop. I don't really want to keep it on 24/7, and I should save the room on it for games and other projects. I'll put things I've seen people talk about below, but not sure what order to do stuff to make the best Netflix replacement. - I can buy another smaller machine or two I can use as a server. Not sure whether to put the torrent parts on it, so it can torrent while I'm at work and stuff, make it host the Plex server, or both. And even then, I'm not sure whether to use an NAS, raspberry pi, NUC, Nvidia Shield TV Pro, buy or find an old cheap laptop, a ThinkClient I saw another post suggest, etc. I need something super small and quiet because I am splitting a small place right now. Should I get 2? One to torrent things while I'm gone and one to host Plex, or can I put them on the same machine? - Or should I start improving other parts of the torrenting and streaming experience? I've seen people mention Sonarr, Radarr, and other applications that I haven't experimented with yet. - Or should I just port all of this into a seedbox hosted by someone else even though I have the VPN subscription for awhile longer? It would clear up some room but I'd hate to be tied to a subscription. - I know I'll also need to buy more storage soon to make it a viable library, too. What do you all think should prioritize next?

I figured that out when all of the Supreme Court justices all released that joint statement pushing back on independent over sight, mandatory compliance with ethics rules, and greater transparency because their buddy Clarence Thomas was getting exposed. That really proved that the rot went deep.

But how does encouraging schools to buy a book compare to someone who buying houses and payting tuitions for a justice and their family members, and bringing them on all expense paid vacations, all by someone who is sitting on cases in front of that justice?

I think the same standard would be if these schools had cases in front of the Supreme Court and then bought a ton of her books.

Damn, Nvidia Shield Pro is kind of expensive, $200. And so are some of the NAS’s I’ve seen pop up on google. Trying to get both sounds like this will end up being a long-term project over a couple paychecks lol.

I’m guessing you have to plug a separate hard drive into the Nvidia Shield Pro to stream files that large? I’ve been thinking of going that route since Netflix has started being sucky. I don’t want to support them, but I miss their 4k Dolby Vision/Dolby Atmos/5.1 content for my own basic, little home theater.

I have a feeling he made it up as some sort of power grab, but it’s hard to tell whats the truth out there. The fog of war is all over this chaotic situation. But if this chaos helps Ukraine take back territory, or even just breathe for a moment, that would be great.

The screen shots look good. I’ll download it and try it out. Let me know if you make a community for it so we can give back feedback on there. The more apps the merrier now that Reddit is getting rid of all them!

Ya, I’ve been told that it’s a known bug that they’re working on. I still like it as a reader, but to do any sort of adjustment to your account, such as finding communities and adding them, or interacting with replies to your posts, the website is more useful right now.

Hopefully it can catch up soon with the big reddit exodus happening.

In their defense, I remember a lot of people bouncing off voat specifically because it was full of trolls, racists, and generally horrible people. We don’t want that happening here, too.

Not everyone has the time or inclination to moderate those communities they make, though. That’s the only thing that’s preventing me from making a bunch of the old communities I miss. I hope some of the big mods move over here and keep doing it. I miss AITA, some DnD and RPG subs, and some other fun story subs. I also prefer my movie and TV communities split up instead of in one mega community like in !moviesandtv@lemmy.film.
