Oh superb that’s great to hear. I am not a developer but I am good at documentation. Is there anything that needs edition from documentation stand point, please feel free to let me know. I will be more than happy to help you with such tasks.

And thank you so much for your efforts ❤️❤️

It works flawlessly. Chefs kiss. I haven’t gotten a chance to use much of the lyrics feature yet. I am on bike now a days, so not able to sing along.

But I am going on road trip(car) soon and my friends and I will be singing our hearts out. This time we won’t have to keep on looking up the lyrics after the song changes 😂😂.

However, I would love to see the following 2 options

  1. To see lyrics by default. Right now , I need to click on the current playing song at the bottom of the screen, then click on the lyrics button. It would be great if I could customise it to always show lyrics.

  2. Disable timestamps appearing on each line of lyrics.

One more question, are you the developer ? 🙈

You could, technically, use mTLS with Caddy.

Can you reach other services on that vm? If you don’t know that then test this first. ( May be run a python http service to test this?)

I would suggest you check out Caddy. It handles let’s encrypt for you . If you are looking for a reverse proxy that is.

I have a 10 year old CPU running Intel i3 (don’t know what generation) with 12GB of ram, few HDSs (8TB, 2TB and 1TB) , SSD(128GB) for Debian.

The motherboard has a VGA and I don’t have any VGA display with me. So if anything goes wrong at reboot, I mostly do guesswork and resolve it.

The PSU fan is whining and hanging on to its life.

I am an atheist , but I pray to God for my PSUs life.

I second this and would like to add in another resource for XCP-ng : Lawrence Systems on YouTube.

Yes. But that would assume that OP is not behind CGNAT. Also, even with Static IP, if I had to just do file transfer over SSH, I would use Tailscale over selfhosting wireguard. But that’s my personal take on this.

For remote connection, you can use Tailscale along with Material Files and SMB/SFTP.

If I were you, I would use some file manager app that allows ssh connection to the server, and do file transfer over ssh.

For remote use, I might use Tailscale to create a private network over the public internet and use it when outside of the home network.

Just to share my experience. I was part of r/HomeAssistant for a year or so and I had no effing clue what it was or what it does. One day I was scrolling through YouTube and there was a guy talking about HomeAssistant. Only then I realised this is not some “Alexa/Siri” kinda home assistant. This is a home automation kinda thing.

Haha, I still laugh at my self for being an idiot for the whole 1 1.5 years.

There is an option to use an external player. So you could use VLC as an external player and use it. It would work better.

But any old PC that is x86. Even if it second hand/refurbished (as long as it’s a branded pc Like HP, Levono).

I was going to say netdata as well. But I am not sure if it shows container wise stats.

Just throwing out an idea, could you create an smb share from nextcloud. Mount that smb in the server that hosts Immich( even if it’s the same server that hosts nextcloud).

Now, in Immich add an external library. The path of external library could be the smb mount.

Consider testing this, if it works for you.

I had a lot of freezing when I was using immich on my RPi4. May be due to ram constraints. I moved to a 7 8 year old PC that I had lying around. It’s less finicky than a Pi4.

I would advise you to go with HP and not RPi

Oh I get your point. Coming from family and friends POV, I agree that the server administrator should not be able to open the photos.

Where do you want the encryption? Data at rest? Or data in transit? Also, you have to host your own server. Would you not have trust on your own server ?

If you are willing to troubleshoot it by discussing with me on DM or discord or something. I am more than happy to chat with you for free.

What are you comparing it with? Something like photoprism? If so, then photo prism does not allow you to have multiple users. (Atleast it wasn’t there when I used it last time)

If you compare it with Lychee, then Lychee does not have facial recognition.

Any cheap PC is going to be way better than raspberry Pi.

Also, may I suggest you to checkout Immich? I am in love with the project and have been using it as Google photos replacement.

Welcome to selfhosting!

Yes. Try using iperf to test connection speed between the client and the server.

Would you suggest some good testing app? I just use crystal disk info to see the stats. Never ran a test as such.

Why don’t you post the solution publicly so people know how to get subtitles working?

I am not asking you to DM me. My request is to go to support in Jellyfin discord where we can discuss the issue. I agree jellyfin is not free from issue. But when you say “too bad subtitles don’t work” , it’s leaves the rest of us confused. The issues you listed down, might be true in specific cases for example AAS subtitles not rendering correctly in VLC on Android TV. You see how specific the issue is ? In your case , we don’t know what’s up. Someone wanting to try jellyfin (who is not affected by your issue) would shy away from even trying.

In any case, I had no intention to accuse you or offend you in any way. I apologise if I came out strong.

How are you detecting/monitoring it. I would like to do the same in my server

Yoo bad you don’t know how to troubleshoot. In anycase, head over to discord. Post your issue, I will personally help you resolve it.

if any one else reading this in the future

My guy just documenting for his future self, if it ever happens again.

Haha

Been there 🤣

Home server crashing randomly
Hi everyone, I host a server with few services running for my family and friends. The server freezes sometimes. Where the services stop responding. If I try to ssh into the server, it takes a lot of time (3 to 5 mins) for it to connect. After being connected, every letter I type takes 2 to 3 mins to appear on screen. Seems like the server is overloaded with tasks. But I am not sure what load it is running. I have netdata installed. I could pull up following screenshots for insights. Can someone please help me in troubleshooting the issue? I have tried testing stress testing my RAM and CPU, and they were fine. But I would start troubleshooting from scratch if you have recommendations for testings softwares. Please also let me know if there is anything I can pull from netdata to help in trouble shooting. How to implement certificate based access to self hosted services?
I am hosting few services for my friends and family on my server. Due to devices limitations, I can't install VPN on TVs etc. Is it possible to restrict the access to only those users that have a certificate issued by me?
