When you use some service you have some expectation that they’ll treat you fairly and predictably. Sure their Eula let’s them do whatever the fuck they want legally but that doesn’t change the fact that if they opt take certain actions (like arbitrary taking people’s usernames) then they risk losing user trust.

If the admin just took your username one day would you just quietly accept it? What if they edited or deleted your comments? Would you just shrug and say “well it’s their site they can do what they want” and just walk away?

Look what happened when Spez got caught editing posts on Reddit, for example. Massive user outcry.

It depends on the movie and how they market it. Usually once it hits streaming services good rips will be available very quickly.

Personally I don’t bother with CAMs or TSs, I’d rather wait until there’s a good rip.

I’m looking at Ubiquiti’s UniFi doorbell. It’s not cheap, nor really intended for home installation (it’s more like office grade stuff), but I already use their networking kit and run their software.

I’m in the same kinda situation as you, I need some storage but need it to be expandable, want to run some docker stuff, while I could (and have in the past) build and maintain something like that from scratch, I don’t want it to take over my life and I want it to be easy to maintain. My previous NAS was fully set up from scratch on FreeBSD, it was pretty good but was a lot of work to get it right.

So I set up an Unraid server on a parts-bin server as a kinda compromise between a fully DIY and just buying a NAS. Meant I could use some old stuff I had and some cheap components rather than paying out hundreds for a NAS. Slapped in some shucked drives and some old NVMe drives (took the opportunity to upgrade my gaming machine, so used the old stuff for this), now got 42Tb of storage and 2Tb cache.

I have to say it’s bloody fantastic. Was a bit on the fence about a paid OS but it’s cheap, the UI is solid, and thus far totally worth the money.

Alongside about a dozen services running in containers, I’ve got an Arch VM to satiate my DIY cravings, which suits me fine because I can do what I want with that without messing up my file storage/services/etc.

msconfig has a maximum memory option. Worth checking that to make sure it’s not set to 8gb.

Could also be that you’ve installed the sticks in a weird configuration. Often if you have 4 slots the board actually wants you to populate slots 2 and 4 if you’re only using 2 sticks. Details are usually printed on the board.

Or could be reserve for the iGPU, have a look in the bios.

Block accounts can get expensive if you’re doing a lot of traffic.

The setup I recommend is one unlimited account and a block account on a different backbone. That way you can download as much as you like and the block account gives you extra coverage.

Piracy is not immoral, but if it’s too widespread it can destroy opportunities for people creating things to get paid for creating things, and so they may not be able to continue doing so. And that just makes the world worse.

Try to find a way to support the people that make stuff that you love. For example I won’t pirate music from small bands, I only pirate games if they have onerous DRM or something (never indie games), and I’ll only pirate books if they’re ridiculously overpriced and I can’t get a standalone DRM free version.

Just cos you’re a pirate doesn’t mean you can’t have morals.

What do they do?

Basically you want one primary usenet service, doesn’t really matter what (they all have pros and cons but for a normal users they’re basically the same), and another secondary service on a separate backbone (see https://whatsmyuse.net) to get good coverage without being hurt too hard by takedowns.

It’s kinda not cool in the usenet world to recommend specific services because there’s so much shilling going on. I’ll tell you what I use but please don’t take it as a specific recommendation. No affiliation with any of these.

For indexers I use nzb.su and drunkenslug. The former seems to have better coverage but the latter is faster. I hear nzbfinder is good too.

I use frugalusenet but only cos I got a deal that makes it $34/year. It comes with a free secondary block account on a second backbone so it’s kinda helpful in that way. But overall coverage isn’t as good as two well chosen providers. They often post good deals to Reddit/etc so keep your eyes open for a good one (Black Friday is a good time)

The only problem with using paths is the service might not support it (ie it might generate absolute URLs without the path in, rather than using relative URLs).

Subdomains is probably the cleanest way to go.
