How to have inter-VMs alerts?
Hey, I've setup a promox server and running some stuffs in it, and basically I want to know how to have alerts notifications that goes from one service to another, for example : I'm running NUT on proxmox shell, and I want to have an alert in Truenas (and in NextCloud running in Truenas) to say that the server will shutdown soon to the users that are actually using my cloud. Thank you 😄

I’m completely okay with that but you can find cheaper alternatives if you just want to do torrenting stuff, do not need this extra level of privacy

For sure NordVPN too, but in the ONLY case of torrenting it’s a good idea to have the cheapest thing to hide his ip

Proton is great but you don’t really need privacy when torrenting

If you are just torrenting and using it for downloading some stuff and nothing more, use the cheapest as NordVPN or Cyber ghost these are good for this, BUT NOT FROM A PRIVACY POINT OF VIEW

You can download a lot of music, very safely without anything. But maybe it could depend of your country. But if it’s a “okay” piracy country you shouldn’t any issues, even when sharing I’ve seen a lot of residential IPs

They are more difficult to find than “open” sharing network

Or people could make a great music torrent site that would replace the fact of having this “social” sharing platform

Soulseek is good but it’s a proprietary network… 😭

So are the apps blocked even when you are not using the play services?

The best way would be using SimpleX do doing such stuff

The best way for me that I found is using Soulseek, sadly it’s proprietary but it’s really nice as a lot of people share on it

Where to find FLAC music?
What are the best places to dl FLAC music?

Even if it’s not the same protection as with a VPN sharing your mobile connection is a better idea than using your real ISP connection. Cause in fact most of mobile ISP use about 200 people on the same IP adress, that’s why for example these IPs are good for scraping, because Google and others web services whitelist these IPs cause they know that they are going to ban 200 people

The best way to download YouTube videos is Yt-dlp, and the best way to use it on android is trough this app : https://apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/index/apk/com.deniscerri.ytdl

Don’t know how much storage you have on your phone but you should just try these steps : If you are downloading from YouTube Music you won’t get the best quality but for me that’s okay. So I just recommend you to download an android client for yt-dl and then download what you want. If you are downloading only 1 or 2 gigs of music it should be okay, but if you are downloading more or wanna take care, you should use a VPN 😁

On mobile you have 4 choices :

  • Stock Android, the worst you can get, simply not use it

  • iOS, as worst as android but with better UI

  • Degoogled Android, good choice, avail able on many devices 👍

  • Linux phones, the best but in early development and only available on some devices only

It’s very depending on which apk you want. If you only want the apk of one specific open source app, just check on fdroid or on their git (mostly on github). And if you want play store apps without installing Aurora store, just use ApkMirror (their apks are mostly clean, cleaner than Apkpure in any case…).

Meta train open llms, only big techs can train AI… Go pursuit OpenAI or Google and leave Meta (I’m really not a fan of Meta but their “open” AIs are great examples of good works) do their work!

For me you can try to host a SimpleX server and then connect to it (with SimpleX it is pretty as much secure to run its one server than use a public one).

Or maybe use XMPP but try to use a good encryption protocol. This option is great in term of power efficiency, XMPP would run great on a RasPI

If I want to host my services to the internet, I need to open a port in my firewall nah? is that not a bit risky than only allow access from the address of the data center to use this open port?

But I need to configure something on the client side… I want people to access my server as they access their Instagram account

Simply to protect my home server from attacks, and serve the content only with the remote server in a datacenter

I would like to access to my server only trough the proxy, like if I put my real IP I end up with nothing, but if I put the proxy IP it show me my server

But the speeds are much slower nah? And can I host “normal” website trough Tor?

No I don’t need a CDN only a way to hide my IP to final users and that nobody can use my real IP to connect to my server

So I need to have always the same exit node, need to connect to the server via an other IP and only this server know my ip

Do you something like a vps would be more secure? Paying some dollars a month

Alternatives to CloudFlare?
Hey is there any alternatives to CloudFlare reverse proxies? I want to hide my server IP but not share everything with CF...

Need recommandations for a home server
Hey, I'm always searching a home server (already post here https://lemmy.ml/post/15083947), I was thinking about a Lenovo P500, but maybe the PSU is a bit too special... My budget around $140, will buy used parts and one of the most important thing is the power efficiency (don't care about the peak wattage but want to stay around 50W idle and settling at about 70W when doing some work). Preferably I wouldn't like to buy mini PCs. 😃 Thx!

What’s a good budget home server?
EDIT : I'm going to use a Lenovo P500 (at around $130) with 8 threads (will upgrade it later) and 64gb of RAM. It support the E5 v4 family so that's great. If someone knows the power consumption, that would be cool! Hello, I want to build a "homelab" and I'm searching for a server, what do you propose me as good options? I need something with at least 64gb RAM, can buy used, and minimum 16vcores.. Around 150$ If you have any good options let's comment below 👇 THX ❤

What’s is the best way to download things?
Hello, I want to self-hosted apps get requests from the users (mainly movies), and then I can find a download for it to move it to a jellyfin server. Maybe after that, it could be a little more automated to download stuff automatically 😃 Thx

Building my Homelab!
Hey, I'm in the way of building my homelab already thinking of some apps to run on it... Truenas in a VM, a Debian VM to run docker. And on this point, do you a have some docker apps recommandations? Write down all the apps that worth looking at them 👇👇
