Parsec doesnt work as host on Linux. Biggest reason I can’t use it. I think you care just a teeny tiny bit.

I know. I’m also from Sweden. Everyone uses Spotify. We were such early adopters on a very broad scale it very quickly became a standard. I don’t know anyone who uses YouTube Music except myself. Yes you can’t share songs or playlists but I realised when I couldn’t do it that I didn’t really miss doing it either. I can still send my friends a text about new songs I like. I dunno. To each their own I guess.

I tried doing a full swap from Windows earlier this year. I do a lot of local game streaming from my gaming pc to my laptop and I had issues getting this working. Didn’t have the energy to keep looking for solutions so I just went back to windows. Next time I try I will probably keep my pc on windows and only swap my laptop to Linux. One step at a time.

You don’t want YouTube + YouTube music but you want Spotify + YouTube? I abandoned Spotify the second YouTube Premium was introduced in my country. I loved Spotify. I started using it back when it was invite only. YouTube Music is worse for sure, but it’s good enough and a lot cheaper.

You don’t control what happens in a movie. Everyone knows it’s in most movies. And most movies don’t show mych. But if you play a game and someone walks into the room and thats on the screen they are 100 gonna ask or wonder wtf you are doing. I believe that’s about it.

I agree 100%. I cant imagine myself playing and my son comes and asks me what I’m playing and… Just no. It has to be very, very optional if ok. But even then it just feels unnecessary to me.

Probably Minecraft with my 5 year old. Yesterday and today. Been loving it.

I agree in theory. But most of us won’t do that because we aren’t familiar reusing things in this way. As in, it won’t be reused. Not because it’s hard, only because we won’t be arsed to. And it’s sad.

I haven’t tried. That’s not for me. I’d rather just buy the game or pirate it. Both are much easier.

Doesn’t really work if I’ve had a subscription before, or used said free month some time in the past.

Only issue here is to flag it’s on Twitch Prime so everyone has the right expectation.

The WiiU tablet wasnt very portable. Once you left the room where your WiiU Base was plugged into a TV it started acting up. You basically had to be in the same room but not he allowed to use the TV. I’m afraid that type of technology probably hasn’t moved forward fast enough to try anything else but wifi. It’s a sad day.

At least you can use these as a more expensive controller as well, right? To play with your friends on the tv. Surely? Right?

273!? Oh crap. I didn’t even realise pricing will be off for us in europe. I’d be surprised if they sold more than 1000 units to Sweden.

Quite the jump from 199 but add another 140 dollars and you get a machine that handles Ps5 remote play, emulation, playing games locally and streaming from your PC. Sure the screen is worse but a Steam Deck is so much more value for money. This seems like a small return for quite a lot of money.

Edit: I forgot about Game Pass. Beep.

I remember buying my first hard drive for 2000 sek which is arround 180 dollars. So that’s actually more expensive than 1tb today. That was more than 20 years ago but I only got 20gb worth of space. A few years later and we should arrive at the 20 years-ago-mark which made me write 50. I def wouldn’t say most people had 200gb hard drives 20 years ago. If they did no one could complain 20 years later if BG3 would still fit on that drive.

Windows have performance issues compared to Linux though. Better on paper doesn’t mean better performance.

A 1tb Steam Deck-sized NVMe drive is about 120 bucks right now. Not cheap. But not insanely prices either.

Requires even more work and even more budget. I understand the problem but it has always been there. There are people now who can’t afford 1tb and there were people 20 years ago who couldn’t afford 50gb when that was the equivalent. This won’t ever go away. And it’s fault by consumers who expect bigger and better things for less and less money. You can only optimize so much on your budget. I still understand this is a problem it’s just not one that will get solved anytime soon, which is a shame.

How much more fps do you see on the ROG Ally with the unit not blasting the fans and having 30 min battery? Curious for real.

Yeah you failed yourself and embarrassed everyone in the room. Prrrfww…

Yeah but. Yeah, sure :) If you specifically say you run Linux I don’t think oh he is running Android :) Sorri!

You get used to having a long drive to work as well. But who wants to get used to that if you don’t have to. Same reasoning applies here. SteamOS is so, so good. Why would I want to switch to something with performance leaks? To play competitive FPS games on my handheld? That’s not why I have one (plus I could get windows on an external sd if I really wanted to).

I’m close to making a full on swap from windows to Linux. I just need to research in home game streaming first since I often sit on my laptop downstairs playing a game that runs on my gaming pc through Parsec.

Charging is also very fast. And most of the time I play mine on the couch, plugged in. If I used it more on the go I would get a good powerbank.

Watch YouTube reviews of the devices. I would not bother with comparing screens. I usually do this as well but in the long run you want the best overall device. The Deck doesn’t have an 1080p OLED but I also wouldn’t want it to have one because battery would be so much worse.

Don’t look on CPU and GPU. You can’t compare them because the machines aren’t running the same OS. It’s like comparing ram, gpu and cpu on an iphone and compare directly to an Android phone. It’s irrelevant. The actual experience is what matters, it’s the device you will look at, not the spec sheet.

Edit: oh and btw. If you want to put a screen protector on the Deck, get either the cheapest one and upgrade the internal ssd or get the middle one and buy a 512-1tb ssd. If you arent going to put a screen protector you can buy the deck with anti glare.

The OS is built for the hardware and is optimised accordingly. It’s like the other handhelds have performance leaks everywhere while the Steam Deck doesn’t. I blame win11. So even if the others are better on paper, actual performance is way better on the Deck. There are so many tools you can download to make it even better, personalise whatever you want. Linux really shines on this thing. And I’ve never used Linux before in my life. You can emulate everything up to the newest Nintendo games. It handles God of War, it handles Elden Ring and Diablo 4. Controls are awesome. Somehow even my Switch is more tiring to hold even tho the Deck is way bigger. For me it just clicks. I know I sound like I’m on their payroll but I just feel it’s that good. And I would swap the Deck in a heartbeat if anything else would be better. But it isn’t.

On paper a lot of these devices beat the Deck. In reality the Deck sits on top and looks down on everyone else.

People forget families have children who wants cartoons. Which makes it even worse because it’s hard to cut off services.

I know this is /c/piracy but I feel YT Premium has its benefits. You get the music service as well. Spotify is better, yes, but YT Music is good enough and the family can have an ad free YouTube experience. My 5 y/o can watch cartoons without getting ads in his face.
