I hope so. I was angry that he was given bail in the first place. I think he should have been jailed.

I wouldn’t do this if I were you because any of your activity can be traced back to you via your credentials.

JFC! That’s a fucking joke. That’s like 200 bucks to him.

rDNS is something that is not set up by your domain registrar. It’s set up by your ISP or cloud VM provider.

I don’t know of one specifically for clothing but I know of a great ERP free open source software called ERPnext. This could easily work for you.

I cuurently use one of three registrars: Namecheap, Cloudflare, or Porkbun. Porkbun is my favorite and I will move my domains to them as they expire.

This is my take on it as well. My phone is for basic quick communication. My real productivity happens on my laptop and desktop.

I could hold a press conference about how the world is flat and not round but that will not make it so. Trump is such a fucking moron. Even his Wharton professors thought so.

Ah, I thought as much because they’re really power-efficient unlike something DIY.

What is your NAS? Is it something you built or a Synology?

Not only is a DIY UPS unreliable, but it could be potentially dangerous unless you are an electrician, an electrical engineer, or somebody that has extensive knowledge of both the engineering side and safety side. How many CyberPower units do you have? It’s impressive that you have enough UPS power to run a NAS for that long.

I have a Dell OptiPlex 7050 acting as a router. But I don’t do any port forwarding. Instead, I have an Oracle Always Free VM that is connected to my server via a WireGuard tunnel. The cloud VM acts as reverse proxy to all of the services that I host. The OptiPlex 7050 is running OpenBSD.

You could simply gut it, keep the case and power supply, and put modern components in it.

I am reminded of the old saying:

A lie oft repeated takes on a truth of its own.

Good suggestion all around but I am huge fan of ERPnext. ERPnexr is 100% open source and includes HRM, accounting, a help desk ticketing system and more.

Honestly, that still would not be enough to change my opinion here about Work From Home. We have the systems and tools at our disposal to make the office life redundant. The notion that work from home employees largely abuse the privilege is simply an opinion without any hard facts to back it up. Indeed it is actually the opposite. Employees are happier and more productive. A minority may abuse the privilege but those are the ones you fire for cause. You don’t end a system that works overwhelming well. That would be kind of like scrapping a car because there is a small scratch on it.

The old notion of having to punch a clock is over as well!

That’s really cool but still out of my price range.

Sadly, I suspected as much. 😿

Dang! Yeah, I looked at getting an Ampere proc and the price just for the proc was like 5K. Um, hang on while I shit out 5K. 🫠😆

I mean I was hoping that I could build a desktop PC like, say, you would with an AMD or Intel processor but with an ARM64 instead. I probably should have specified that. Sorry.

ARM64 for the masses
Hey! Does anybody have any information about if and when a company might offer ARM64 for general desktop use? I would like to build my own in the same way that I might build a desktop PC out of an Intel or AMD processor.

Check out ZeroTier or Tailscale. Either one of these options would be your best bet.

I’m not a violent person but if our society becomes an analog to Talibani Afghanistan, I won’t go down without a fight. Better to die fighting than die in a Christian re-education camp.

If you consider yourself to be “shit-lib” then we have nothing in common because I want to put a terminal end to both parties and breakdown and rebuild our society from the ground up. Both parties are terrible for different reasons. One impedes progress through tokenism and incrementalism and celebrating that as a victory. The other party are Christofascists. You and I are nothing alike. Note that I am purposely leaving your identity out of this because one thing I feel strongly about is LGBTQ+ rights. People identifying as LGBTQ+ would flourish in a system where one party (i.e. the Democrats) does not use you as pawns and the other party (i.e. the Republicans) does not want to relegate you to an underclass.

I dislike Biden intensely. I meant what I said when I wouldn’t lift a finger to help him other than vote for him. I sure as hell am not going to work to sway others in my circle to vote for him. That’s entirely up to them and the conclusions they draw. It is going against my principles as it is to vote for someone that does not represent my best interests. It’s worse that he doesn’t even represent my best interests, he does everything counter to them.

There are no viable 3rd party candidates thus far. If one does happen to pop up, I will at least entertain what they have to say and listen to them.

Why, when I am an anarcho-communist, should I work hard to support the neoliberal candidate? I am not lifting a goddamned finger for Joseph R. Biden Jr other than unwillingly casting my vote for him if need be.

Considering a US president has never before actively encouraged, and may have spear-headed, an open revolt!? Yes, I would say it probably will be the most important case in US history.

Well, to use the ActivityPub protocol and operate like Lemmy and Mastodon for example. Also see Pixelfed and PeerTube as examples.

Your project looks interesting. Do you have plans to give snapify the ability to federate and share with others?

It is very area dependent and what path your data takes. It just so happens that the pathway that my data takes to reach Hurricane Electric’s server in NYC is really optimal. I have latency comparable to a native IPv6 network. It’s certainly better than my ISP, Verizon’s, native IPv6 in my area where my data goes to Virginia and then back to NYC.

I have IPv6 connectivity through Verizon FiOS. The trouble is that in my area it is poorly implemented and markedly slower than IPv4. I would much rather use 6 but not at a performance penalty.

You could use an IPv6 tunnel broker service. I know Hurricane Electric offers a service free of charge. I use it and it’s not bad. Hurricane Electric also has an IPv6 tutorial. See (https://www.he.net)

Verizon, my ISP, offers IPv6 in my area but the implementation is broken and it ends up being an order of magnitude slower than simply using IPv4 and HE as an IPv6 tunnel broker.

The same goes for my place of work. It’s going to be shit loads of fun when we are forcibly transitioned. I hope before that time I will be doing web development work and kissing my professional career in infrastructure good bye.

This is my thought. It’s about time greater adoption of IPv6 happens. As much as I don’t like corporations getting greedier, in this case however, Amazon is doing us a favor by spurring IPv6 adoption on.

Scrivener is a fantastic tool! It’s a shame that it will likely not be open sourced but I will give the devil its due credit. Scrivener is brilliant for authorship.

Bookstack is an excellent tool. Was it originally conceived for authors? I’ve only used it as a knowledge management system. In fact, I stood up a Bookstack instance at work to document procedures for my fellow desktop support engineers.

Using NGINX as a stream proxy
Hello fellow self-hosters. Is it possible to use NGINX as a proxy for an IMAP service where the IMAP server is located on a different host? I have a cloud VPS running NGINX which is connected to my home network via a WireGuard tunnel. What I would like to do is run the IMAP server (Dovecot) in my own network and have NGINX proxy the connection. I have tried doing searches based on this but the examples don't show how to specify the IMAP server for the connection to be redirected to for the lack of a better phrase. I know streaming is possible. Would this be the way to do? I would love an example to go on. Thanks very much!

[SOLVED] New Lemmy Admin
EDIT: With thanks to [u/code@lemmy.mayes.io](https://lemmy.goblackcat.com/u/code@lemmy.mayes.io), I have a solution for cleaning up the one table that is growing ridiculously in size and that is the activity table. A `TRUNCATE activity;` command cleaned that right up. A word of caution is in order because the Lemmy instance must be shutdown completely and only the postgres container running if you're using docker. As a new Lemmy admin, I think I really need to learn PostgreSQL administration because I need a way to keep my database from ballooning in size and there are no management tools built yet for it. Would someone be so kind as to recommend a good website for learning PostgreSQL? This would also help me maintain my mastodon instance.
