1337x usually has whatever I need. Although I mostly just pirate games and the occasional movie or series. I don’t have fuck you money to run a data center in my garage

As much as I’d like to drive 90s shitboxes for the rest of my life, the cynic in me thinks we’ll see something like cash for clunkers on a global scale. It’s only a matter of time before the supply runs dry and parts become nearly impossible to find at a reasonable price

When I was in college, libreoffice calc was a good enough Excel alternative to get me through finance, accounting, statistics and business science. I graduated in 2020 to give you some perspective. Worst case you run a pirated Windows VM with pirated Office. Also, shame on all the downvoting fucks who probably are too privileged to have any business being on this community

There’s a lot of good advice in here. If shit hits the fan and nothing else works, you can install the repack in a Windows VM, copy the install directory to the host, and add the exe to Bottles. Easy money

As someone who works with this framework for a living, don’t learn it on your free time. It’s absolutely worth learning vanilla Java, but you can learn Spring Boot on the job

I play a lot of older AAA games and piracy has been a life saver. I tried playing Assassin’s Creed 4 with a legit steam copy and couldn’t even play offline because of the stupid Ubisoft launcher. With a pirated copy, you skip the launcher and get a better experience than a paying customer. Just stick to reputable groups like fitgirl and you’re fine

It’s not so bad. I’m just a lowly webdev and my work with Java is mostly just basic CRUD operations

I write Java for a living and the places I’ve worked have used Lombok to cut down on the boilerplate code

Not so much for sysadmin (more so just for onboarding), but definitely in the cyber world where having a clearance is almost a requirement. They might not test all the time but during the investigation they basically want people who are clean cut or have at least had their act together for a few years

LOL I went to school for cyber security and got into full stack web dev (graduated at the start of COVID, the job market sucked and I had a connection). Not gonna lie I enjoy where I’m at now. I’m a Linux nerd and I enjoy the cyber stuff but there’s no way I’m ever gonna stop smoking weed to get a security clearance or be on call as a sysadmin

For what it’s worth I had a good experience emulating the switch version on steam deck. And that’s not exactly top of the line hardware

I will say, I have a crappy laptop with Windows on it. Sometimes I’ll just install games on there and just copy them over to my Steam Deck. Add the game exe to Bottles, run Boilr then boom it’s in my Steam library working just fine

Great choice. If you go specifically with the IoT LTSC version you’re also supported until 2032

I’m here because I’m interested. I’ve put in so many applications but have had no interviews despite 3 years of experience and a masters degree. Y’all let me know

My resume must be screwed because I have a masters degree and 3 years of experience. Recruiters email me but ghost me as soon as I send the resume

I simply refuse to move forward if the interview process involves a whiteboard interview. I have no aspirations to work at FAANG so this has only happened to me a couple of times

You’ve had a job where they let you use Linux on your machine? Every job I’ve had has been strictly windows

I had a job where we used Spring Boot with JPA on the backend. It was nice because you could just use the ORM methods for basic CRUD functionality. But on the other hand it has this @Query annotation we used for whenever we wanted to write our own queries. Probably against best practice but it worked well enough

Thanks. I’m on weworkremotely but I’ll check out the other ones

Where do you guys find remote work?
I’ve had two remote jobs as a developer so far. I got the first one through a close friend and the second through a coworker from the first. The second job asked us to relocate and come into the office after a year so I quit. I’ve been living off savings overseas for the last year now with no job. I understand networking is very important but I don’t seem to have any good connections at the moment. I do get messages from recruiters on linkedin as well as job boards like Dice, but many of these are for roles beyond my experience level or hybrid/in-office

Stuff like this is why I never buy new games. Not only can you not trust the critics, but players get so blinded by hype and buyers remorse that they’ll ignore everything bad about the games they love.

It’s always wiser to wait for the hype to die down and see what the retrospective consensus is

I don’t think Todd Howard is too worried about it given all the free labor his games get

I’m in the same boat. I play Bethesda games for the experiences the modders create. This will be a steal in a few years for $30

I’d love to play through the Mass Effect remastered collection on my steam deck but it’s ridiculous that it makes you download all 3 games (100+ GB). On the other hand, Halo MCC is actually good about this and lets you download only the games you want to play at the moment

Look at moneybags over here throwing around cash instead of just making space
