Hi, I am planning to purchase a 2.5-inch HDD. If I connect it to my computer using a SATA to USB adapter instead of directly to the computer's SATA, can it somehow affect the result of this scan? I apologize for my ignorance but I couldn't find an answer to this question anywhere

The author of the fork declares 100 percent compatibility with the original project’s database. As you move, the database structure will be changed (new fields will be added) to be compatible with the fork, but it will still also be compatible with the original project (which simply will not use these new fields).

I used conduwuit for a long time and it seemed very stable. Now I don’t host my server anymore because my friend hosts his own server and lets me use it, so I have an account on his server.

The original developer is trying to do things slowly and stay with older versions of the dependencies, while the author of the fork is of the opinion that the dependencies should be updated to the latest versions and take advantage of their capabilities (such as performance improvements) which does not necessarily please the original author.

In addition, new features are implemented in the fork that are not present in the original project, because the author of the fork is pushing for rapid development (which doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing)

Check out conduwuit. It is a fork of conduit and you can see all the differences here

Please, just don’t. It’s pain in ass

By default, none. You can install Google services, then your phone will use their proprietary NLP system.

You can also install microG (an application that pretends to be a Google service and connects to it, but sending minimal data, respecting your privacy) and then you will use MozillaNLP and DejaVuNLP at the same time.

MozillaNLP: you send a list of WiFi networks around you to Mozilla over the Internet, you get location data

DejaVuNLP: a local database built on your phone. When a GPS location signal is available, DejaVu fetches the list of WiFi networks and adds this list of networks corresponding to the given GPS coordinates to its database for later use

UnifiedNlp has been abandoned. MicroG now has built-in MozillaNLP and DejaVuNLP.

Have you checked?

Please text me when you are done! I am very excited to see the results :)

[Solved] Self Hosted Calendar
Hi, everyone! For several years, I've relied on NextCloud as a substitute for Google services. The time has come to say goodbye and move on in life. I've decided to replace my NextCloud instance with separate services for files, calendar, photos, notes, and to-do lists. I've already found alternatives for all services, except for the calendar. Does anyone have experience with FOSS projects that would allow me to self-host a calendar? I'm looking for something that supports CalDAV, has its own (pretty) user interface (webui), caters to multiple users, and supports multiple calendars. And if anyone is interested in the alternatives I've found for each NextCloud component, here's the list: NextCloud Files -> [File Browser](https://filebrowser.org/) NextCloud Notes -> [Joplin](https://joplinapp.org/) NextCloud Photos -> [Immich](https://immich.app/) NextCloud Tasks -> [Vikunja](https://vikunja.io/) NextCloud Calendar -> *???***___** # Edit: In the end, I used [Radicale](https://radicale.org/) software. I deployed it in a docker container and it worked almost right out of the box.

You can probably ignore the idle power consomuption and enable Wake On LAN and turn it on and of over the network. Is that a solution for you?

Can anyone explain it to me, please? 🥹

Whyyyyyy. Why telegram? 😭

Signal is way better…

Okay. Where do you buy the disks?

Can I use two different drives?
I am building a NAS in RAID 1 (Mirror) mode. Should I buy 2 of the same drive from the same manufacturer? or does it not matter so much?

I do not remember. I think I had some problems with it. Also I prefer localsend as you can send the files from any device in your LAN without pairing or linking it.

I had at my home spare Raspberry Pi 4B in 4GB version. I installed the Android TV version of LineageOS on it and then Jellyfin and SmartTube apps (something like NewPipe, but for TV). I highly recommend it.

Edit: You may also find these apps useful:

LocalSend - to transfer files between devices in the same network

KDE Connect - to control your TV with your phone when you don’t have any Bluetooth keyboard around you

Oh, okay! thanks for the clarification. What are you using for incremental backups?

You could:

  • Ask your neighbor if he has unmetered Internet connection and if so, then chip in (⚠️ This may be against their operator’s terms of service. Before doing so, please check the terms of service)
  • Ask a friend with unmetered connection to download all the stuff for you and just hand you the disk
  • Use a public hotspot (such as McDonald’s Free WiFi) to download this stuff. Take into account that the download speed will be extremely slow.
  • Rent a server in the datacenter (i.e. VPS), download the data there, and get the data using your connection only as much as you need at the moment. The disadvantage is that you don’t really own the data stored on this server.

Ok, why syncthing and not rsync? Also, duplication should not be threated as backup.

Uncommon Syncthing usecases
What are you non-obvious, maybe strange usecases of Syncthing? For example syncing the media library with your friend or maybe your entire /home/user folder between your PC and laptop? I'd love to hear your ideas!

The system should activate itself if you only replace the disk.

But… if you ever need a license use one of the activation scripts from massgravel on githu… I mean buy a new license on microsoft.com and enjoy your shiny, legally activated operaring system.

…or just install Linux, if your use case allows you to do so

That’s because of the Unix philosophy: Write programs that do one thing and do it well. Write programs to work together. Write programs to handle text streams, because that is a universal interface.

What if the track/song has multiple authors? What do you do then?

How do you manage your music library?
Hello! This question is mainly directed to people who use navidrome or similar software. How do you organize your music library in regards to files? Do you keep them all in one folder? Or folders with author names? Or folders where music belongs based on genre? I can't get the right way to organize my music library, hence this question. Thanks in advance for all the answers!

My displayname refers to my username 🙃

That’s the thing. I don’t.

Check out this: https://github.com/linuxserver/docker-webtop You can stream the GUI directly to your web browser! This is so sick 😅

It is a NAT, but created by an operator. The operator does not give you a real IP address, but instead hides you behind his own NAT and gives you one private address.

My first E-Mail server
I just set up my first ever email server and I'm proud of myself! 😊 Do you have any advice to avoid common problems? I mean something beginners often do that they shouldn't. Thanks!
