They’re still pretty bad at being currency. Transaction fees are still too high and it’s still pretty slow and/or complicated

Any of you run lemmy and mastodon on the same server?
Curious to know of this would cause federation issues or anything. The instances would be using different domain names but on the same VPS
fedilink

Oh I thought closing the instance sent a delete request to all instances to delete all user data.

Do you know a way I can backup the database without any of the pictrs data and still be able to resurrect the instance? We didnt really upload images anyways and id rather keep the backup small making it more likely i can resurrect the instance in the future when i get more money and find cheaper hosting

Is there a way to preserve my comments before closing my instance?
Im likely closing my instance soon due to costs and im sad my comments will disappear and remove and context and replies to them breaking many threads. Is it possible to preserve the comments someway or maybe migrating the comments to a another instance?
fedilink

This looks amazing! Any chance in the future itll be possible to also preserve videos? Maybe if i download a webpage and provide the mp4 myself? So i could save a YouTube link and then upload the mp4 of the video i saved using yt-dlp

Whats the benefit of doing this VS using qbittorent binded to the ProtonVPN app so it stops if the vpn disconnects?

You can open an issue using an account from a different forgejo instance. You can comment from your lemmy account, ideally you can also subscribe to issues and releases from lemmy/mastodon

Good UI, good name, good ethics. I like it. And theyre working on federation

I wish anime/manga/etc studios were transparent about their costs and profit. I want to see if my favorite show has so far made enough money to afford the next season or for the team to afford their next project.

Kickstarter/Patreon should have shown creators that people will support what they like and even if they have made enough money people will continue to buy/donate to creators they love.

It needs a modern rewrite atleast in terms of ui but ideally a complete rewrite. I tried it 10 years ago and it still looks just as complicated

Why did you use imgur instead of uploading them here?

How do I enable sponsorblock by default for ytdlp?
I want to be able to type yt-dlp [url] and have it automatically use --sponsorblock-remove CATS to remove sponsored section from the download file without having to type --sponsorblock-remove CATS everytime. Is this possible within yt-dlp? enabling --write-subs, --write-thumbnail, by default for subtitles and thumbnails would also be convenient

Is there an archived version of the reuters article?

@postwatchbot@lemy.lol

Doesnt seem to be active yet, looks like that feature is still closed beta.

I really hope they include an option to customize the For You feed. I don’t want pure recommendations I want a chronological feed with every 3rd post be a recommended one. I don’t understand how zero platforms/apps have a merged feed to have the best of both in one feed

Will you be making a similar video for linkstack? If you do could you include a section for adding logo buttons like how linktree lets you have just a mastodon\instagram logo be a button on the top of the page

Its not personalized though it’s a list of news websites they chose instead of content based on your follow and likes.

Im not really knowledgeable enough to be able to spot whats interesting.

Although something strange about it is if I try to stream something on ext.to with Inspect Element open it automatically closes the stream player and refreshes the page every time. So its impossible to view the networking tab and see what the player causes to show up

I got it from chocolately.

Wait why accept the permission? I don’t really want to risk it installing something I don’t notice

Ive never gotten this request before though and ive been browsing for a while. I didn’t accept it and the browser continues working fine. Doesnt seem standard

That’s what I’m thinking, it happened when i tried to load their streaming player for the first time which historically have pop unders on streaming websites

Is ext.to dangerous? It caused librewolf to ask for firewall permissions
I've never seen any website cause a firewall permission request

Thanks! Do you know of a way to download the videos from there? I want to archive them

Theres been a lot of really amazing looking animated films by indie studios in china but sadly some of them are exclusively available to chinese viewers via geoblocking. Anyone here able to download and share them? These are anthologies with many indie studios making different episodes. Here is the link that shows from the first seasons information https://www.catsuka.com/news/2022-09-20/capsules-project-omnibus-chinois-de-14-court-metrages-produit-par-bilibili-avec-des-studios-indes

Apple Music isnt much better and giving even more power to such a huge corporation sucks. Regardless though, there’s this thing thats been understood with services/products where most people don’t switch unless the competition is 10x better.

Same with Orion browser on ios. Ublock origin and sponsorblock work great

Arent privaxy badger cookiebro and anti Adblock killer pointless if you use ublock origin with the cookie and anti adblock lists enabled?

It says piracy not privacy. But also, we have privacy communities on lemmy which is fully indexed by google and all search engines making it technically less private than discord?

“ iOS users: add this shortcut to your share sheet and click on it when you encounter a paywall and itll open the archive link which lets you read and share the article without a paywall https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/ede57eb29515446ab7cd68b5a8a6e311

Or use this Praxis Browser app in the same way but it wont let you share the article https://apps.apple.com/us/app/praxis-browser/id1598706451

Android users: this Web Archive Viewer app seems to do the same thing as the iOS shortcut but ive never used it https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=web.archive.viewer

Firefox users on any platform: this extension opens the archived version of the article and lets you read or share the article without paywalls https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/archive-page/

The firefox extension can be used on android and ios as well (ios users can install it with the Orion web browser) “

I havent noticed any liberapay support on peertube channels. I can’t find any information on liberapay on peertube either, could you share some links?

I know, they actually run their own instance

I use YouTube for blender tutorials and find new tutorials that are straight to the point all the time so I’m not sure what you mean.

Also if anything that’s a reason for making monetization via a system like patreon even more important instead of an ad based monetization.

Not until they make it possible for creators to make money. At least with a patreon type system on peertube itself

There’s this great ios Shortcut called Avert Paywall With Archive.is that has been working for years but as of ios 17.1 it no longer works because the safari browser that pops up gets stuck halfway. ![](https://merv.news/pictrs/image/2287ece3-2ee3-44db-8fb7-18b68d656787.jpeg) Does anyone here have enough experience making Shortcuts to fix it? It would be really helpful. Here’s the link to it: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/81c670b532e340e38a35cc62e3e9397d

How to download mega links without quota?
Is there a way to bypass mega's transfer quota with paying for a vpn or anything?

Stream any torrent in sync with your friends
Multiplex, an app to watch torrents together. It provides an experience similar to Apple's SharePlay and Amazon's Prime Video Watch Party, except for any torrent instead of a specific streaming service. Thanks to WebRTC, it doesn't require a server to sync playback, and can use a gateway if a viewer can't use BitTorrent. It's written in Go for GNOME; check it out on GitHub https://github.com/pojntfx/multiplex made by @pojntfx@mastodon.social

Need help fixing image uploads on mediawiki
I’ve tried asking on the Mediawiki Support Desk but haven’t gotten any help. EDIT: It looks like the issue with images comes from using Short URLs. After uploading the image through the Upload File section I get a 404 error but if I add /index.php?title= to the url I can visit the uploaded files. Not sure how to fix this though So basically my issue is mediawiki thinks the links to my files are /File:filename.png but they're actually at index.php?title=File:filename.png

DRM removal tool was taken down from github. If you can, please download it from gitlab before its taken down too
The DRM removal tool to remove DRM from ebooks was taken down from github and will most likely be taken down from gitlab soon as well. The more archives we have the better so im sharing the gitlab in hopes some Datahoarder types will archive it and keep it shared via torrents etc https://gitlab.com/bipinkrish/DeGourou Heres an article about why it was taken down https://torrentfreak.com/internet-archive-targets-book-drm-removal-tool-with-dmca-takedown-230714/ Edit: does anyone here use https://radicle.xyz/ ? Its a p2p network built on top of git and could be a good way to host it while still being able to contribute to it besides making a .torrent for archiving
