and all of what? 2 airlines? maybe 3 or 4 internet providers with dedicated lines while the rest have to use Rogers.
I mean hell it’s obvious Canada has a competition problem and the liberals, cons, ndp have zero desire to do anything about it. We even have a competition bureau that gets so little funding all they can afford to do is issue reports and studies.
It’s going to get to a point where they’ll rename Parliament Hill to “Roger’s Parliament Hill” or rename Nathan Philips Square to “Bell Centre Square”.
But this shouldn’t surprise anyone. The government of Canada hasn’t given two flying fucks about the people LIVING in Canada for literal decades. It’s just one massive dog and pony show to line their own pockets.
Anne Yanciw, said the policy was repealed as Trans Mountain construction wrapped up and housing was no longer an issue.
oh fantastic! now about that housing, would ya say it was “affordable”? because…I think that’s the point this woman is having issues with thus…ya know…the RV.
According to a report prepared for village council by a city planner, the fire department said there was a fire hazard related to “additional heating sources being installed.”
But Hayman claims no one has been to her place for an inspection.
“That’s what really surprised me,” she said. “The heating source that I have is propane, like just about every other RV there is.”
How can the fire department “inspect” something if they don’t show up to inspect it? They have psychics working for the FD now? neat!
During the July council meeting, Coun. Pete Pearson said council had already decided to no longer allow people to live in RVs.
“I think there are other options,” Pearson said.
such as? You’re on the council Pete, you either know there are or aren’t. you shouldn’t be on your little council if you THINK your villiage has affordable options but aren’t sure.
chill out “man”. I just want to know what PP considers a real school or ‘training centre’.
and you think I don’t know that places like Conestoga and Seneca are taking advantage? please. Seneca is giving out certs for being a baggage handler at pearson. My point is if he doesn’t consider these places “real” schools then he’ll shut them all down right?
“First we’re going to end the fraud and abuse in the international student program,” Poilievre said. “Require that every new student that comes here has proof they have income, a home and an admission letter to a real college, university or training centre.”
ok bud. First they already do have to provide proof of income. and second what qualifies as a “real” college, university or ‘training centre’?
judging by how places are now either blocking off certain entrances/exits or narrowing entrances/exits it’s getting there.
I’ve seen several Shoppers completely block off store entrances via the makeup section so there’s only one point of entry and exit. Seen the same for rexalls that have kept shutters/glass doors closed for half their entrances to narrow people going in and out. Not to mention all the loblaws/zehrs that have made you walk through several automatic gates to get in and out.
Shop lifting is affecting these places, it’s clearly evident, but I have no sympathy because they’ve essentially done it to themselves with the rising costs…likely by design, it’s a good excuse.
All that being said if I see someone stealing food, no the fuck I didn’t.
also to add to this if you can in your city/town shop local or shop with a co-op. I’m lucky enough to be in Toronto and fairly close to Chinatown and I’ll never shop anywhere else. I do all my shopping at random mom and pop places there and I’m paying a fraction of what I would have been normally paying at loblaws.
as someone who volunteers and works with homeless people, few of which are addicts, you hit the nail on the head. I mean I’ve had other co-workers, some who even used to be homeless themselves, refuse to help addicts or keep them at a distance. They don’t care if they die and see it as a benefit if they do. One former homeless guy that I work with regularly told me “the addicts steal your stuff constantly, they cause problems in shelters, they wake you up in the middle of the night, I don’t care for them.”
There’s a lot of resentment towards addicts in the homeless community who feel that services and programs are tailored specifically to addicts who take advantage. There’s also the fact that simply being homeless means the rest of society instantly lumps them in with the addicts thus making attempts to recieve help and services much more difficult for sober homeless invididuals. there’s the constant stigma that if you’re homeless you’re obviously an addict which simply isn’t the case.
So I get it, I see it first hand. No one wants to deal with addicts on all fronts. people who are housed and unhoused don’t want to deal with them.
If you want to decriminalize it then fine, go for it, but you god damn well better make sure you have the supports in place before you even think about doing so. Otherwise it’s all for naught. Because even programs currently in place for homeless addicts aren’t working and most of the homeless programs in place are geared towards addicts. Therefore people who aren’t addicts and are homeless essentially are told “deal with it on your own, we have nothing for you, we’re here to help the ones that don’t want the help.”
It’s a whole system from top to bottom that needs to go back to the drawing board.
replace the military from a woke culture to a warrior culture. the fuck does that even mean? wasn’t aware our military was “woke”. Christ on a cracker we’re collectively fucked. just start a civil war down south or something already so we can all start surviving in a post apocalyptic world and everyone can get off the internet.
under the table jobs. It states in the article that one woman is working 2 jobs BUT she can’t get healthcare or benefits…thus under the table. Because if you can’t get on ohip it’s painfully obvious whats lacking as virtually anyone can get on it. so she’s not paying taxes, she’s doesn’t have a SIN, she’s working 2 cash jobs.
That’s where the “labour shortage” is. I mean go on Kijiji and look at the jobs section. most of the ads are “immigrants” looking for cash jobs, not actual employers hiring.
and even with a job good luck.
one of my clients is homeless and works full time. no one will rent to him because at best he can afford 3 months rent up front. He can’t afford anything else because he needs to eat (can’t grocery shop cause he doesn’t have a fridge or anywhere to store food) and needs to constantly pay to shower, clean his clothes/buy new clothes, and pay to store his belongings while he’s at work.
So landlords are going to favor someone WITHOUT a job but can pay 12 months upfront as opposed to a homeless guy WITH a job that can only pay 3.
It’s been suggested to him to leave Toronto but his fear is it took him so long to find a job in the first place he’s afraid that leaving the city and his job will result in him having to start over once again and just take him longer to once again get back on his feet.
best anti-virus I’ve ever used? my gut n’ noggin.
been online for 30 years and have never once got a virus or trojan or anything and I pirate A LOT. My point being you’re not going to find a super duper great anti-virus program and they’re all gonna be annoying and provide false positives etc. Windows defender is going to ping you a lot cause you’re using cracks to alter admin settings to get your pirated shit to work, that’s the point.
Download from trusted sources and uploaders, do your research. if it feels off or looks iffy then bounce out. People who get virus’ and trogans and shit honstly don’t know what they’re doing and in many cases it’s all hogwash anyways to sell you anti-virus programs.
Like really, truly, think about it for a moment who in your entire life has recently gotten a computer virus? out of all the people I know in my life I can’t even think of a single person that has.
premier: “I’ve tried nothing and I’m all out of ideas!”
problem: increasing homelessness nation wide, people complain, wish the homeless would “disappear”
solution: affordable/rent geared housing or free backed with needs based assistance
outcome: tax payers/politicians won’t go for it cause “fuck you, I have mine” continue to complain about the homeless problem and say “it’s a complicated situation”
go back to step one. repeat.
I’m sorry kids but I’m afraid in reality problems don’t just go away on their own. they continue. If you don’t like seeing the homeless or addicts then you need to pay for the solution. you need to push for housing reforms as far as zoning and building goes. you need to push for higher taxes or much better appropriation of funds. insist on better and acceptable social safety nets, of which currently none exist in this country.
Increase taxes now, pay for the solution, pay for the safety nets, lower taxes when solution is achieved and nets no longer required.
like you said you’d have to ease into like a old man getting into a warm tub. problem is our province has relied way too much on the money coming in from the LCBO to fund…well…almost everything.
So you have a backwards ass thing (the lcbo) but we sadly need it for makes sweeping hand motion across the province the stuff.
but fuck me I mean it’s Ontario, everything done here is ass backwards.
If i’m at a sit down restaurant and I’m being served on, yes I’ll tip if the service is good. if i’m ANYWHERE else no, I don’t tip. In Ontario employees don’t have a server wage, they get paid at least minimum.
hell at least once I was asked to tip at a self checkout (can’t remember where) and I was like “wait…am I paying myself? is the store going to tip me?”
make no mistake it’s just ways for businesses/companies to bleed more money out of you. don’t do it unless it makes sense to do so.
as someone who grew up in Cambridge…yeah the kitchener subreddit doesn’t surprise me. I’ve looked at it a few times and was like “yup, that’s Kitchener” I mean hell if those fuckers were allowed to commit a purge on the homeless encampent across the street from the go station they’d jump on that without a moments hesitation.
Kitchener has always been a cesspool of hate even when I was a kid in the 80s/90s. The only, literally only, reason we’d ever drive to Kitchener was to go to fairvew mall, toys r’ us, or futureshop.
name me a Canadian subreddit that ISN’T run by mods that staunchly control the narrative. /r/Toronto is just as bad if not worse although leaning in the opposite direction and is one of the primary reasons why I decided to fully embrace lemmy.
the mods of /r/toronto are just so damn terrified of potentially stirring any kind of pot. Anything that is pro-palestine is quickly locked and you can’t comment on it. pro israel is open for discussion. anything relating to homelessness in Toronto is also promptly locked. questions about Toronto? removed. countless photos of sunsets or rain or fog, yeah those can pass. Hell they even at one point curbed posting about any sort of crime that took place in the city.
If something doesn’t paint the city in a positive light or doesn’t fit the mods narrative it’s removed and you’re promptly banned.
There’s something that happened that I can’t quite put my finger on. Sure I’m going to show my age here but when I went to elementary school in the 80s/90s our entire school was essentially made up of immigrants. Irish, British, Polish, Ukrainians, Filipinos, Iranians, Syrians, Indians, etc, etc, etc and we all got along just fine. we were all friends. We all went to each others birthday parties, all our parents hung out with each other. If a new familiy immigrated in and moved to our neighborhood we’d have a big BBQ and invite everyone over.
So what happened? and it swings both ways. Both Canadians being hostile to new immigrants and immigrants coming in and being hostile or disrespectful to the country they decided to move to and it’s people.
I just don’t get it and maybe someone smarter than I can explain it.
this doesn’t make a lick of sense. I know 16 year olds who WANT to work and can’t even find jobs because of the foreign temp workers/international students. Saskatchewan wants to allow 13 year olds? why? there’s literally no point. A business that is already more than willing to take advantage of a potential employee is still going to favor some “student” from India over a 13 year old Canadian kid. you can take more advantage of the Indian kid as opposed to the 13 year old Kid.
This is one massive nothing burger.
it’s because they’re afraid to rattle those cages. Same reason why it’s always “companies want workers to return to the office, here’s why” and never “Here’s WHY employees don’t want to return to the office”. They don’t want to piss off the powers that be for fear of hurting their already very fragile media business.
“oh you’re knocking our company for stagnate wages? for forcing people to come back to the office? ok well we’re going to directly hurt your ad revenue by pulling our ads from your paper/site”
know someone who did this recently. lived in their “office” that they rented for like $300 a month for just over a year while they got back on their feet. It was easy. it was a pretty small building with a few offices in it, no onsite security, cleaners only cleaned the hallways and common area and only did it during the day. it was a building full of “start ups” so it wasn’t uncommon for people to be there late or even overnight so he just blended in and could come and go as he pleased. only issue naturally was showering but there was a goodlife across the street so he just got a membership to shower there.
I mean if you can find a similar space then I say why not? go for it. He said it was easier to rent that office space than it was to rent an apartment. didn’t need references, no credit check, no competition so you’re not gonna get out bid, literally just said that he’ll take it, paid $600, signed a lease, and that was it. moved in the same day.
but then you have the hurdle of actually being able to join a credit union. I remember a couple years ago I was trying to help one of my clients get a credit union account (who was homeless but working) and he couldn’t get it. don’t remember the specific reason but I do know we went across the street and was able to open a scotiabank account.
It was Merdian bank so don’t know how good they are. I figuerd the credit union would be easier to work with in his case since like you said there’s no minimum fees, I was wrong.
cool. So do you also need drugs and booze like your fellow officers for that 11 hour shift? https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/stolen-trust-lost-cases-how-a-toronto-cop-stole-from-his-force-fed-an-addiction/article_57a23bd7-7221-5dc8-a1b3-a1a86c68bae9.html
Guess they also need airpods and new cars for those 11 hour shifts: https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/staff-pay-new-cars-airpods-how-toronto-police-have-already-spent-1-5-million-on/article_bfd11f5a-1f6c-11ef-8381-e37f86c0280a.html
And the guy who recorded this better watch out cause these little snowflakes will start a criminal investigation on him for simply getting their feelings hurt: https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/toronto-cop-allegedly-initiated-off-duty-road-rage-incident-threatened-criminal-investigation/article_f7b2089a-e07d-11ee-9aea-4780f0e4b47b.html
these are just 3 incidents out of many, many more. TPS are scum.
