Canada is capping the number of study permits it approves over the next two years to get a handle on a ballooning international student program. Here’s what you need to know about the program and the changes that are coming.

I’m curious to see if universities will get any additional funding to make up for lost tuition from international students.

I don’t agree with it in the slightest, but the reality is many of our universities are effectively subsidised by international students. The uni I went to would not have financially survived the past 20 or so years without price-gouging ever increasing numbers of international students.

International students gave politicians an easy answer to funding. Just do it off the books by sucking cash out of developing economies. It’s lousy.

Post secondary institutions are already freaking out about the potential lost revenue for next year.
