I think this is because YouTube pushed so much its shorts (tiktok knockoff) but they’re not as profitable. My guesstimate is that at least 70% of traffic is in shorts now so longer content is rarely played along with longer ads

YouTube Shorts are an absolute plague as is the TikTokification of social media generally. I don’t want that attention capitalist version of opium anywhere near me.

Whats even more frustrating is now you have to choose between:

  • 48 minute long video essay about cheese
  • 10 second video about cheese

I want a 5-10 minute video about cheese, something light I can watch while doing some other stuff, and then move on with my day. I don’t want to watch a feature length movie.
