Amending the constitution would take 38 states to get on board IIRC and is not a quick process anyway. The republicans do not control 38 state governments.

They are short about 4 states right now. That isn’t as huge a gap as I’d like. And they have the ability to get the item out to the states.
They have 6 justices that are happy to interpret the constitution in any way Republicans like already.
