Canada’s biggest newspaper chain says subsidies are for ‘welfare slackers’, but tells investors ‘government support’ is central to its business model

Defund foreign owned propaganda.

Given the current news revenue models I don’t think it’s possible for large scale outlets to be anything but paid adverts in guise of the news. The Conservative mantra of deregulation is also going to make things worse.

Ultimately someone will need to come up with something that pays people to deliver accurate news.

Like a publicly funded crown corp?

Well, since we’re just giving the money away anyways, why not give it to a public company rather than to rich shareholders and senior executives.

You sound like a domestic terrorist, your local oligarch doesn’t appreciate such sentiment.

Final warning.

It can be some of the news but not all the news.

I don’t believe there’s something magical about CBC where they couldn’t be contorted to favour whatever Conservatives want. In itself they’ve been trying make Trump and other Conservatives look sane for years now.

The only reason why Peirre wants them gone is because Postmedia does it for free. At least until whoever funds them decides otherwise.
