FINALLY!!! 10,000,000,000s more dollars to perpetrate mass genocide in Palestine! I love dead children!

The $61b is for Ukraine.

Yeah, and it comes with an additional $26,000,000,000 to continue the mass butchery of innocent men, women, and children in support of a genocide that eclipses what Russia is doing.

It also comes with banning the largest platform for pro-Palestinian content…

I think you are in the wrong thread, friend.

The $21b for Israel was a separate vote. Maybe you should go find a thread about that, unless you are a Tankie just trying to make anything that helps Ukraine look bad, in which case carry on in the most obvious way.

It’s still one package, mate. The fact that they voted on the Israel part separately is irrelevant when the vote fucking passed anyway.

No they are separate packages. It’s not possible to vote on things separately if they are one package.

The same bill included billions for Israel. You can’t separate the 2; they’re literally the same funding package.

So we aren’t allowed to be happy for Ukraine?

I never said you can’t; that’s your choice to make whether you can compartmentalize these from each other on an emotional level.

But whether you are happy for Ukraine or not, on a factual level you cannot ignore that this bill’s passage is also furthering a genocide.

Unless you are openly valuing the lives of Ukranians over the lives of Palestinians, I’m not sure you can say the bill’s passage is ultimately a good thing.

That’s not even true. The Ukraine funding was voted on separately from the Israel funding. So in this case I will celebrate the help to end one genocide in this thread while going to the appropriate thread to protest the funding of the other.

Ah, good to know. I heard Johnson was aiming to split them into separate bills, but hadn’t heard those versions were the ones passed. Most news outlets keep referring to them in the singular, which there was a bill that the Senate was building that was still unified.

In an alternate timeline, the title to this post could refer to the amount of relief for student loan debt, or state grants for humanely addressing the homelessness, lack of healthcare accessibility, and climate crisis, for starters.

None of those will mean much if Russia is allowed to conquer Europe. Every dollar we spend now will save us tens or hundreds later if we didn’t address the problem.

Sure, those are important, too. But it’s kinda a big deal to put a stop to the idea that military conquest is fine, so defending Ukraine (and potentially Taiwan) are important, too.

Supporting Israel’s genocide is, however, reprehensible. And is just as bad (worse?) than what Russia is doing in Ukraine or that China is doing in Taiwan.

China’s genocide against the Uyghurs gets a pass, politically, because they already control the territory. And what they’re doing in Hong Kong and want to do to Taiwan are terrible, but not in the same level

or that China is doing in Taiwan.

?

Do you mean that they’re threatening to do to Taiwan? Because so far they’ve done nothing but posture. Or maybe you meant Hong Kong, which is certainly really, really bad, but I don’t think rises to nearly the same level as Israel’s ongoing genocide against Palestine.

Yes, you’re right. I’ll edit that.

Oh, absolutely. I’m not OP but I think they mean “in some alternate time line, Putin isn’t an evil piece of shit, and we can spend this 61B on these other issues”

I read it as them lamenting the fact that Putin could just not wage war and we’d have all this extra ability to solve other issues.

Lol, imagine thinking that Putin is the reason this money isn’t being spent on student loan relief, supporting the homeless, lack of healthcare, and the climate crisis.

Seriously, at this point both sides of the political divide have fully embraced blaming anything and everything on foreign scapegoats.

It was a cross post. Sorry.

And all it required is total bipartisan agreement on killing Palestinians.

I went to school with a Palestinian woman when I first started at community college. Smart, friendly and aware of how the world viewed her. That we collectively assume these are terrorists because we’re told to is rather a regurgitation of the three-fifths problem.
