ATLANTA (AP) — A grand jury in Georgia that has been investigating former President Donald Trump over his efforts to undo the 2020 election results in that state returned at least one indictment Monday, though it was not immediately clear against whom.

The grand jury heard from witnesses into the evening Monday in the election subversion investigation into Donald Trump, a long day of testimony punctuated by the mysterious and brief appearance on a county website of a list of criminal charges against the former president that prosecutors later disavowed.

But the process hit an unexpected snag in the middle of the day, when Reuters reported on a document listing criminal charges to be brought against Trump, including state racketeering counts, conspiracy to commit false statements and solicitation of violation of oath by a public officer.

A spokesperson for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said the report of charges being filed was “inaccurate,” but declined to comment further on a kerfuffle that the Trump legal team rapidly jumped on to attack the integrity of the investigation.

It was unclear why the list was posted while grand jurors were still hearing from witnesses in the sprawling investigation into actions taken by Trump and others in their efforts to overturn his narrow loss in Georgia to Democrat Joe Biden.

Nguyen and Jordan both attended legislative hearings in December 2020 during which former New York mayor and Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani and others made false claims of widespread election fraud in Georgia.

This is wild moment in history.

What’s crazy is how each indictment paints a picture. Campaign finance: eh, a little political mischief, perhaps. We’ll see how it shakes out.

Retaining documents? That’s definitely illegal, but maybe its one of those victimless crimes, and the judge likes him. Perhaps more noise than action.

Fomenting an insurrection. Well, that’s certainly a big deal. Very dramatic. Guess he’ll say he wasn’t responsible for other people rioting. Seems like there’s a lot of evidence, but it’s a complicated case, so who can say how it goes.

Racketeering? Well shit… I mean, yeah, he was like tweeting *‘Hey everyone change the results of the election or fucking else!’ *

Each covers a slightly different angle on his behavior, but nothing quite brings it together like ‘This fucking organized crime ring went around intimidating witness and offering bribes and shit. Half of it was in public.’ Like… racketeering isn’t poetic or vague or from a Tom Clancy novel. That’s pretty classic mob boss shit. I feel like even his supporters can just say, ‘Well, yeah… that’s what we like about him. The mob boss shit.’

I’ve got know idea how this ends. Do some of the younger folks take plea deals? I was skeptical, but I’m honestly starting to think that this ex-president might really spend time in jail like Al Capone.

Perhaps this “Biden Crime Family” thing was just projection all along…

And what’s crazy, all of that was done AFTER presidency. One has to wonder how many things he got away during.

Haven’t read the whole report but I believe that pretty much all of these charges are for conduct between Election Night 2020 and Biden being seated as president Jan. 20, 2021, meaning Trump was president at the time.
