"Extremist legislators are trying to gain political power by harming vulnerable young people and their families."

The North Carolina Legislature overrode vetoes by Governor Roy Cooper of several Republican bills targeting transgender youth. One bill bans gender-affirming healthcare for trans minors. Another prohibits instruction about gender identity and sexuality for K-4 students. A third prevents trans girls from playing on sports teams matching their gender identity. Advocates called this an “all-out attack” that will harm young people. Over 550 anti-LGBTQ bills have been proposed nationwide this year. Notably, a Democratic state representative recently switched to the Republican party, giving them the votes needed to override vetoes.

Important to know is that this is only possible because someone from a +19 Democrat district got elected, then flipped parties. So not only is this overriding a governor in order to Rule over their Betters, someone outright betrayed their constituents to do so.

According to the article, a senator also switched parties after being elected. It’s ridiculous.

My heart goes out to the vulnerable youth affected by this… who have absolutely no control of where they live to even flee the state to avoid this.

Think long and hard about this. Democratic governor that won reelection but a veto overturning Senate majority. What does that spell? Gerrymandering! NC is fucked.

So gross. No actual beneficial policy or governance ideas, just looking for the group they can bully the easiest, to the greatest political advantage with their base.

Just all around skin-crawlingly pathetic.
