Black voters feel trapped in the duopoly but other groups are giving a master class in political courage. The Abandon Biden campaign shows the way.

A group of Muslim leaders in swing states are rightly using their electoral power with the #AbandonBiden campaign. They are not so frightened of a Trump presidency that they have allowed themselves to vote for the man who through his proxy Israel has killed some 24,000 people in Gaza and despite phony claims of “working behind the scenes” shows no inclination to change policy and save lives.

Idiots. Idealism is fine when it doesn’t endanger any and all future chances of actual progress. “Not being worried” about Trump makes clear that these people are whiny babies who can’t possibly come up with a real solution or demand.

Run the candidate, then you can say these things without merely bloviating. I don’t see anyone running against Biden who isn’t a complete looney tune with zero chance of defeating the very real threat of fascism that again darkens our doorstep. I know it feels good to post the wall of text about how we need an alternative, but absent an alternative, complaining and refusing to participate helps nobody but the fascists.

Refuse to listen to what? What if I agree with what you say? You saying it changes nothing. It is a stupid, strategic misstep where we all lose because all it succeeds in doing is to get people to stay home.

Trump has been a friend to Saudi Arabia, selling them tons of weapons to fight against Yemen and protect themselves from Iran.

Biden has paused sales to Saudi Arabia, and instead had the US attack Yemen directly.

I’m not surprised that both pro-SA and pro-Yemen/Iran Arab-American voters would be against Biden; from that point of view, Trump selling weapons to Saudi Arabia and having them kill each other, was a smarter, albeit more cruel, move.

They’ve got the right idea — the place to get rid of the current administration is in the primaries. But putting forward an alternative would work better than going anti-Biden.

Because Trump already showed he would have done the same thing with gusto.

Get the country rallying behind a moderate but active and principled Democrat, and you’ve got a recipe for a great next 8 years.

Thasin: I was a champion for Joe Biden until October 7. I feel he disowned us, disenfranchised us, with his stance on Gaza.

A.K.A. I didn’t care until it affected me personally.

What terrible thing did this admin do before the war in Gaza?

Before Oct 7th… ummm… the economic pain for bankers caused by forgiving student loans? Inflation did suck for a while, but the Biden admin walked a tightrope with almost guaranteed recession below, and managed a soft landing to avoid recession (which honestly, everyone was expecting a recession). The Biden admin has a long list of things they actually have done, just their PR sucks (Biden tends to quietly work to accomplish stuff in the background, and not throw a victory parade for every little thing they do. Not that I want him to do that, I consider it tacky, but Trump does it constantly and gets all the media attention, so hopefully that changes for the duration of the elections).

Even with what is happening in Gaza, Biden and the Biden administration are not ‘pro-murder Palestinians’.

Bibi isn’t going to listen to anyone unless made to, this is an ambition of his.

What I would say the Biden admin, AND CONGRESS, are guilty of, is not being heavy handed with Bibi and Israel. They have no actual power to stop it, but they do have the power of influence by enforcing our standard policies for military aid; ie: condition continued aid on not murdering Palestinian civilians/make (and show) great effort to specifically target Hamas… if not, stop selling weapons/providing aid to Israel (beyond maybe the Iron Dome).

I do want someone younger for President, but if it’s Biden v. Trump, I’m voting Biden. The Gaza situation sucks, Israel has gone too far, and is rightfully being viewed as the villain here, but not being able to control the leader of a foreign nation isn’t reason to be ANTI-Biden, and let fascists/authoritarians come into power.

The world suddenly acting like Biden should have ultimate control over foreign leaders is a weird new twist I did not expect. Israel has long been an important ally and partner; we do need to be firmer/heavier handed, but not so much as to turn a partner/ally into an enemy, unless absolutely necessary. Ideally, Israelis would take care of removing Bibi from power on their own.

Yeah, the way the public consensus now says the US should act as world police is one hell of a flip. I say stay out of it and that means washing your hands of it and stop selling offensive weapons to a nation in an offensive war. Ukraine is different because they’re the ones being attacked.

Biden is fucking up this situation for sure. But he’s still infinitely better for the US and the world than Trump.

Israel is a weapons trade partner to the US, their “Iron Dome” system is a perfect complement to the “Patriot” system. Under a rational leader, there is no way the US would “stay out of it”, even if it could damage exports to the Trump-era major US arms buyer: Saudi Arabia.

If anything, it’s more likely the US would stop supporting Ukraine (almost a given if Trump wins), but even there the US has a vested interest in not letting the war spread to NATO nations that could invoke Article 5, forcing the US to show their hand about whether NATO is a real thing or just a paper tiger, which could damage US’s weapon sales to all NATO nations.

For reference, the Ukrainian war has doubled US arms sales to NATO nations, which have reached a level of double the sales to Saudi Arabia.

PS: an ironic thing that’s going on with Saudi Arabia, is that Biden has paused arms sales because of their war on Yemen… only to now have the US bomb Yemen because of their attacks on cargo ships.

I can’t fathom voting right wing under any circumstance. In a (stupid) two party system, what is the alternative to voting Biden?
