I don’t want it if I don’t need it. Considering where this country is at with housing, education, transportation, food, etc. I think those billions going to well off seniors rather than back into communities that will make life better for everyone is fucked.

The Rainbow Bridge, which connects motorists and pedestrians between Niagara Falls, New York and Niagara Falls, Canada, was closed for two days following the incident.

Ah yes, the province of Canada.

I don’t live in Vancouver. Every part of the province that isn’t the GVRD has an abysmal transit system.

House goes from 200k to 700k in 10 years then goes to 630k and were supposed to be happy? This country is a fucking joke.

I’ve been pretty happy with him as a premier who far. Seems like he’s the only politician right now who’s actually doing anything substantial to fix the issues we have. The cities are crying right now and that’s a good thing.

What’s the statscan definition of homeowner? Aren’t myself and my partner considered owners because we live with my parents in their house, so there are 4 “homeowners” living in the house.

I could be wrong but I remember reading what they consider a homeowner does not match what common sense says it is. Please point me in the direction of something if I’m wrong, I’ve tried looking but can’t find anything.

And kids don’t want to eat their vegetables or go to bed on time… Sometimes people need to be encouraged to do the thing they don’t want to do, but is only in their best interest.

I work as a public servant and I say this like once a week. The general public acts like a spoiled child who wants to eat candy for dinner. The public do not care that candy isn’t nutritious, they do not care that they will rot their teeth out if they eat out for every meal, they do not care that it will give them an upset stomach. They know what’s best for them and candy is what’s best.

BC assessment gives you a nice 10 year graph of assessed values when you click on a property. From what I’ve seen it’s about a 2x to 3x increase over the last 10 years, in my region at least.

I clicked on a random property, but this is typical for my whole city.

Where I live on Vancouver Island (not Vic) rent has increased about 2 to 3 times in ten years. Housing prices, from what I’ve seen on bc assessment, is on par. Something assessed at 250k in 2013 is now assessed at 600 to 700k.

Looking at rentals this morning, 2br are anywhere from 1500 to as high as 3100.

My partner gets 20 mg gummie from the black market that work amazing for her for sleep. 100 gummie for $100. Can’t get gummie for that price, or with that dosage from the gov’t, so she’ll never buy from them.

I understand the issues with edibles and kids, but the gov’t isn’t going to win this so they may as well figure out how to move forward if they want to make an actual dent in the black market.

She does have an iud so I could before, but her Dr put her on medication for her rheumatoid arthritis last year that causes birth defects so at the moment we gotta double up. Even if that wasn’t the case, still couldn’t afford to have a kid right now.

Yup that too.

My partner got food poisoning a few years ago and kicked her food intolerances up a level where even trace amounts now wreck her so we’ve had to go to the dairy free route which is expensive and very limiting. Her doctor recently told her to try cutting gluten so now I have to relearn how to shop and cook to accommodate that which adds more to the bill. She’s essentially a gluten free vegan who eats meat.

Without writing out my whole life story: student loans, unexpected vehicle issues (public transit isn’t an option where I live), out of pocket medical costs not covered by benefits or gov’t, long commutes with expensive gas and no feasible alternatives and few job opportunities closer to home in my field. Can’t afford to move due to high rents so I’m stuck driving.

There’s more but I’m hungry and wanna eat dinner and don’t feel like going into it. We save everything that isn’t essential and barely go out for fun, anything extra goes towards a down payment but the way things are going right not it doesn’t look like we’ll be able to buy for years unless we can put away like 2k a month.

Here they are (with full details to follow at the end of this article): Rob Flack, Ontario’s associate minister of housing; France-Élaine Duranceau, Quebec’s housing minister; Nathan Neudorf, Alberta’s minister of affordability and utilities; Gene Makowsky, Saskatchewan’s minister of social services; John Lohr, Nova Scotia’s minister of municipal affairs and housing; Rob Lantz, Prince Edward Island’s minister of housing, land and communities.

The housing ministers for British Columbia and New Brunswick do not have any reported investments in real estate.

All good man lol, just trying to add a little humour to the devastating reality of maybe never having kids.

I would love to pump some baby batter into my gf and start having a kids, can’t do that while we’re stuck living paycheque to paycheque on a combined 130k in my parents basement.

Pretty much, the plot was dumb and the story wasn’t much better but that didn’t stop it from being a fun watch. Ironically Ryan Gosling, a man, was the best part of the movie.

Tame is a good word to describe the messaging.

Barbie was a funny movie, the only people complaining about “the propaganda” are retards who don’t understand women are people.

That’s pretty much all of Canada, even our biggest cities are too scared to zone properly in fear that they’ll have to actual govern and educate their electorate, easier to just assume the next guy will.

I’ve been a public servant for three years and all I’ve taken away from my short time is that the public can’t be trusted to do anything to benefit society.

Remove zoning restrictions and someone will build. Give them the incentive by making what you want to build easy and most will jump on it instead of going through a 5 year long rezoning process to build a 30 story tower.

Of course they did. Fixing it would cut into profits and hurt their “clean green” image so they didn’t do anything.

Remember when pot was decriminalized and everything fell into bedlam and chaos just like we were warned about for 50 years.

That’s too much to expect from the average Canadian which is why the cons control the majority of the provinces despite royally fucking them up. Canadians don’t understand how government works.

Wow I’m honestly surprised this loser did the right thing. Maybe he’ll surprise me again and do the right thing and resign.

Garbage fire burns up.

Sorry about Gavin Innes though, sometimes shit falls down

Guess I’m not going to be watching/paying for anything Ryan Reynolds in the future. He made that one easy for me, his shtick was getting old anyways.

That’s maybe enough for one 100 unit building a year, depending on where it’s built, which is something but so far from anything substantial.

Building is fucking expensive right now even if the province uses paramountcy to bypass municipal zoning. Plus, the province sucks ass at building compared to private because its gov’t. That’s not too say I don’t support massive amounts of public housing being built because I do 100%, but gov’t is gov’t.

If you think you’re life will get any better under the Conservatives you’re lying to yourself. Ontario is a representation of what is to come, their “solutions” will be nothing more than poor choices that will do more damage than good to the average person and will enrich their friends.

You can bitch about the federal liberals all you want but the fact of the matter is housing, healthcare, transportation are all handled by the province and those are failing due to decades of Conservative leadership. BC finally got rid of our Conservative party in 2017 and things have slowly gotten better, still not great but I guarantee better than if we stayed with the cons; at least our current premier is actually trying to make real change to legislation and policy to move the province out of the 1900s.

As a 32 year old with tens of thousands in school debt living with my parents who can’t afford to move out despite making a decent income, I understand feeling like things aren’t going to get better, but I guarantee voting for the party that has been sucking corporate dick and spitting in the face of the middle and lower classes in the open for decades isn’t going to make things better for me, or you, or anyone in this country who actually needs the help.

News flash dude, it was wrong then and it’s wrong now, period.

If you think for profit renting is superior and less predatory to public housing, a successful model used in countries all over the world, and used to be successful in this country before the Conservatives and Liberals killed it in the 80/90s, then you’re an idiot.

No one is saying the empty nester with the basement suite charging an affordable price for the unit is in the wrong. The one’s that are in the wrong are the corporations and individuals who are buying up properties for their own personal gain at the sake of those around them who did nothing wrong other than being unlucky wth market timing. The ones in the wrong are the politicians who have lied to their voters into believing that for profit corporations are the solution to public services like housing, healthcare, and transportation, and the voters who have buried their heads in the sand and refused to listen to reason because they are scared of admitting they may not be right 100% of the time and would rather watch the world burn than change.

If you can’t understand this then again, you’re a fucking idiot.

Maybe east of the rockies. In BC I have friends that go camping all year long. Our mountains are open all year for activities (skiing, snowboarding, etc. in the winter mountain bike, hike, etc. in the summer). Heck, you can ski, bike, surf all in one day on Vancouver Island if you’re so inclined, though it’ll be a long ass day.

When people trying to purchase their first home are outbid constantly by investors (corporate or not) who later try to rent out that same space at more than the first time buyer would be paying on their mortgage then no, you daft idiot, they are not providing a service.

This whole lAnDlOrDs ArE oUr FrIeNd shtick makes you look pathetic.

Another big hit to the retro gaming market. That being said, I kinda hope we get a prison speed running league from this.

I think the last game I bought out of fomo was the og COD WM2 on 360. I didn’t have much money for games until like two years ago so I really only bought what I knew and only took a chance on games I knew were hyped and looked like something I was into (ie Skyrim).

I don’t really care about what’s new if it doesn’t interest me. Bought BG3 cause it got a lot of hype and I’ve airways wanted to get into DnD and this looked like a good way. Don’t think I’m going to buy Starfield, at least not at release.

I think they are waiting to see what is going to happen to BC in the fall with the purposed legislation changes which will allow up to 4 units per parcel. I think they are waiting to see how this plays out before making a push for it on the federal stage during the 2025 elections.

Replacing a good 50% of single family houses with 2 to 4 units will help immensely in building the housing necessary to start taking the supply side of the issue without going the Doug Ford route of continuing sprawl to enrich your buddies. Hopefully they are smart enough to pair the new development with policy that increase the active and public transit infrastructure to start getting people off the road who don’t want to be on it.

Singh’s comments this week make it sound like he’s getting his campaign ready for 2025 and I have a feeling BC is going too be used as an example of NDP success. As a millennial, a BC resident, an NDP voter, and a urban planner, I’m all for it.
