It’s like when steam added group chats and discord added games

Docker still makes sense on your own hardware. Especially if you’re the type of person to try out different programs often

Zerotier, although it’s similar to tailscale so you might have issues with it too

I’ve done it with docker swarm and it was awful, the connection latency would break the cluster constantly

OP said that the port wasn’t open, unless they meant the port was already in use rather than the port was closed?

This is the only actually good use of LLMs I can really think of. As long as there is a good way to keep them within the bounds of the actual story it would be great for that

Yeah, there’s companies out there literally destroying the planet or causing deaths and consumers don’t care. They’re not gonna stop using their shiny rectangle over this

Normally I purposefully don’t click on articles with AI generated images, this one was so bad I thought it was a really bad photoshop instead

This also isn’t only the tech industry, it’s any industry. Pushy door to door salespeople aren’t in the tech industry.

Does netlify not let you set a spend limit?

Why pay for hosting a static site at all when github, cloudflare etc offer free hosting

Install promtail on the system where you want to get the logs from, then configure it with the paths to the log files and the address of the loki server

I think googling poe or poe computing will give you it

There was a human reply at the end:

I’ve just taken all the pkg pages down. pkgx is about running pkgs, we put up the pkg pages as a bonus for our users to help them. We chose AI generation to give us more time to work on the tool because that’s what we care about.

They don’t matter to our mission and honestly we’re a little confused about this reaction. We respect your opinions and are sorry we upset so many by using AI.

Can’t say I hugely love that reaction from the dev

That bots bio says “if you would like Microsoft to bring devblogs officially to the fediverse send feedback here” so I think it’s not actually federated nor official

I love the idea of the ding, but I hate the idea of being in a meeting sharing my screen when I’m working in something. It would be like having someone looking over your shoulder at your screen constantly

I wish I could move but mac OS multi-monitor support is terrible and Linux desktop gives me endless problems

I’ve got a whole powershell script I run these days on a new Windows install to remove eveything I don’t need and set things how I like them

Considering that every single generation has nostalgia its baffling to me this is even news

You don’t get the direct integration then though, as far as I’m aware there’s no way to manually setup an addon

Had a very similar thing. Company I worked for had their best year by a long mile in 2020. Hired like crazy and talked big about all these deals in the pipeline with massive companies. Didn’t understand why deals started to fall through once lockdown ended, scrambled to try and fix things but just made themselves look directionless.

Power to performance wise a pi isn’t actually that good. A thin client can run on less than 60W and offer far more performance

They must’ve been playing the long game then, iMessage has been irrelevant in Europe since before this law existed. Apple truly thinks of eveything

Thankfully Spotify’s podcast platform still supplies RSS for most podcasts. The only exclusive podcast I listen to got so much backlash they had to make it non exclusive again

You can listen to most podcasts through any platform you choose, I’m not sure how you came to that conclusion

I’ve been saying for ages that podcasts are the last mainstream bastion of what the Internet is supposed to be. Imagine if it was the same for film and tv?

Can anyone recommend any good podcast focused self hosted RSS feeds?

Any site that uses AI generated images for the thumbnail can fuck off, I’d rather see nothing

What are the actual reasonable outcomes here:

  1. The search engine becomes successful and requires monetization to pay for the hosting/indexing costs
  2. The search engine does not become successful and the ever increasing cost of indexing the entire internet forces monetization or shut down
  3. You self host your own version, in which case you need to start indexing yourself (see problem #2)

If you expect any company, especially a startup, to act differently then you grossly misunderstand how companies work
