AC Lite. It doesn’t need controller, it’s standalone. I configure it via the mobile app.

It’s a standalone AP. No controller. Two different SSIDs.

I’ve had it running now for 2 hours and of course now it works. The only change since last time is that I’ve reset the AP and did a firmware upgrade. Perhaps that fixed it…

There’s only a single DHCP server, a Pihole, which also serves as DNS. Switch B is a cheaper switch, so that may be the culprit. I use it for heavy downloading from my Xbox and that is never a big issue. Speeds fluctuate from 100 to 900mbps (my max) but that’s not necessarily a switch problem.

Yep, thanks for checking, there’s only 1 DHCP server on my network. I’ve just moved it back to behind switch B and will do more investigation when the problem occurs again.

I’ve just moved it back to behind switch B, will do testing as you suggest.

The switch doesn’t have POE, the Unifi AP does use POE via its own POE injector.

Thanks. I’ve recently reset it, it has its own IP via DHCP. I’ve just moved it back to behind switch B, will do testing as you suggest.

Unifi AP behind an extra switch: 2.4Ghz network stops working after ~30 minutes
/edit: did a firmware upgrade of the AP and can't replicate it anymore. Thanks all for the input, much appreciated. In case it happens again I will use your tips. I have a very weird issue. I've got a relatively simple network setup: - router connected to ONT (Fibre) - 10 port switch A connected to router, cables to various places in house - 4 port switch B connected to switch A, with TV & Xbox connected - Unify WiFi AP connected to switch A, both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks That works well. However, when I connect the WiFi AP to switch B I'm having issues. Initially it all works well, but after ~30 minutes the wifi stops working; I can no longer ping e.g. the router. It only happens to one of the WiFi networks (2.4Ghz or 5Ghz), not both. A reboot of the AP solves it again, but then it stops working after ~30 minutes. Both switch A and B are 1Ghz switches, zero issues with other devices. Any idea what I can try?

Yes, but I think it’s because of OpenVino. Some other people with Intel HD using OpenVino had similar issues. I’ve just switched to another model based on this post.

That is good to know! Will keep an eye on memory usage of immich. I really like it, so I’m reluctant to let it go.

Thanks heaps, that’s is very useful. Will connect monitor and keyboard and have a look.

I’ve uninstalled it, it’s an index/search tool. Don’t need it :D

Thanks, it’s so awesome to see so many useful replies here! If you are interested, I found some very weird things in the logs :( https://lemmy.nz/comment/6192604

Yeah think I’ll get a standalone WiFi smart plug, not connected to my Home Assistant, as a kill switch. But you’re right, it’s overkill.

I found some weird things in the logs, this goes beyond my knowledge :( See https://lemmy.nz/comment/6192604

Yeah tracker miner sounds dodgy. I’ve only installed Immich & Frigate on the box, and no dodgy repositories. It’s also auto updating. Will do research how to check for malware, thought that was a Windows only thing :D

Thanks, but a data center is probably overkill for my needs. I’ve got it power loss protected with a UPS, and that’s more than enough for us. Thanks anyway :)

I have a RPI, but of course that one can hang too. I’ll buy a simple WiFi smart plug, standalone, as a kill switch.

Thanks! Yeah it seemed to be an OOM issue, but based on my Kagi qualities it seems like an OS issue. But, it also has an error about the GPU. Normal memory usage is more than fine, so perhaps it was a one time thing. See logs: https://lemmy.nz/comment/6192604

Thanks mate. It was a bit of a rabbit hole, I found stuff about the watchdog package, and you can configure it to use the iTCO_wdt module, but I also read it was blacklisted, and then I just gave up. I posted somewhere else in the thread what lead up to the hang. And, I think I’ll buy a WiFi smartplug so I can remotely reboot everything; assuming the WiFi still works :D

Yes, thanks for that. Good point. I checked the logs, and minutes before it crashed I can see below in the logs. Seems like either a GPU error or out of memory error. I’ve deleted tracker-miner-fs as I don’t need it. It also shows a massive list of processes with their memory usage.

Thanks, I’ve got a HP SFF as well. Not 100% sure how to turn it on though from Ubuntu. There’s a software based version: https://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/xenial/en/man8/watchdog.8.html

But I guess that’s not the one using the motherboard watchdog function.

Yes, very good idea. I’ve got HA on a RPI so that should be easy.

How to remotely reboot a Linux host if SSH fails to connect?
Edit2: Thanks all for your responses! I have checked the logs, https://lemmy.nz/comment/6192604, and based on that removed tracker-miner-fs as it's a search/index tool which I don't need. No idea why it took over all memory. I'll also get a WiFi Smartplug as a kill switch. Hopefully that solves it. Thanks again heaps! ---- I've got a HP ProDesk G3 which I'm using as home server, I've installed Ubuntu on it. Earlier this week the services I host on it stopped (Immich & Frigate). I tried to SSH, but it just hung after asking for a password. I could ping it, but it was just unresponsive. I had to force reboot it manually. This is fine, but I'm not always at home. The chip has Intel vPro as far as I know, which could be an option, but I have no idea how this works. The documentation on the Intel site seems focused on enterprises. I tried to connect with RealVNC which does not work, so I think I've got to install/configure something on the server first. I also asked Bing Chat but it came up with non existing packages & commands. Welcome your thoughts! /edit: I just found this, which seems to be exactly what I need: https://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/focal/en/man7/amt-howto.7.html

That’s interesting! I’ve converted all my docker run commands to docker compose, as I found that easier to manage. But, I guess you can’t do the dependencies like you have. Also, yours has the advantage it always pulls the latest.

Awesome, yes, definitely will do. After years of using Linux, the whole systemd thing is still a bit of a black box to me. I know how to create /start/stop services etc but that’s about it. Thanks for the prompt replies!

Yeah I used /etc/fstab which are static mounts.

I switched to autofs and that seems to be much better, as it does the mounts “at runtime”, ie when requested.

Thanks! I’ve just set that up. That would seem to solve the solution, right, without reboots?

Sorry, I’m absolutely not a Linux expert :) I use /etc/fstab for the mounts, and to manually re-mount I run “mount -a”.

What is easiest solution to automatically resolve missing mounts due to e.g. a power outage?
I've got a QNAP NAS and two Linux servers. Whenever the power goes down, the UPS kicks in and shut downs the NAS and the Linux servers, all good. The servers + NAS are automatically started when the power comes back on line using WOL. All good. The problem is that I have apps running using Docker which heavily rely on connections to the NAS. As the Linux servers boot quicker than the NAS, the mount points are not mounted, and thus everything falls apart. Even when I manually re-mount, it's not propagated to the Docker instances. All mount points use NFS. Currently, I just reboot the Linux servers manually, and then all works well. Probably easiest would be to run a cron job to check the mounts every x minutes, and if they are not mounted, then just reboot. The only issue is that this may cause an infinite loop of reboots if e.g. the NAS has been turned off. I could also install a monitoring solution, but I've seen so many options that I'm not sure which one to do. If it's easier with a monitoring solution, I'd like the simplest one.

Welcome in the rabbit hole of selfhosted enthousiast.

Haha yes looks like it. I only have 1 server (to be bought) and a RPI, which should be sufficient. Proxmox seems overkill for that scenario; I’ll just run Docker. Thanks.

What is the advantage of running proxmox vs install eg Ubuntu, Docker, and manage it via ssh and Portainer?

Yeah, saw them, but that’s over budget unfortunately. Thanks.

Thanks for the insights. I’m planning to import about 1.2Tb of photos… So RAM is most important? What about Intel gen? I’ve compared 4th and 8th gen in terms of cpu speed and 4th still scores well. Depends of course on exact cpu. 4th gen can be bought here for about a 5th of the price of an 8th…

42 yo here, same as you! I tried the game multiple times as everyone was raving about it. Got so frustrated with the bosses that I gave up.

Okay, good to know. Then I wouldn’t need an 8th gen, a 4th gen with a Coral pcie should be better I believe. Much cheaper too.

Thanks, HP it will be. When comparing Intel gens, there isn’t a massive difference between 4th and 8th gen, except the openvino detection which only works on 8th. But I can get a 4th gen for 25% of the price of a 8th gen.

Interesting re the wifi chip, as all posts I’ve found said it only works for a wifi card. Do you have a source for that?

Yeah, no wifi is no problem. It’ll be connected via cable

3470 means 3rd gen. The first number is the generation. Good to know that also works.

Thanks for your reply! So that is a 3rd gen Intel chip if I kagi’d correctly? I was planning to get a 8th gen or later. Not sure though if it’s worth it, I’m not too familiar with the differences between all generations.

Running immich, HA and Frigate on a RPi4 with Coral or on a HP Prodesk 700 g4 (Intel 8th gen)
Currently I've got a RPi4 without Coral, running Frigate with 2 cams, HA, Paperless, Photoview and Qbittorrent. This works well but maxes out the RPi4. As I want to add Immich and more cams, I have to upgrade. Budget allows for either a USB Coral with the existing RPi4 or buy a secondhand HP Prodesk 600 g4 with Intel 8th gen. According to Frigate I can use Openvino for object detection. Otherwise, I could add a Coral mini pcie, with a mini pcie to pcie adapter. But that stretches the budget. Besides frigate the HP should be able to run the rest. Any thoughts?

How to let my kids find quality games on Android? Right now they only find the pay to win / ad riddled games.
My 9yo daughter has a tablet with family link, so I can monitor what apps she wants to install. As the garbage games are mostly at the top free, she keeps asking for games that I reject, in most cases because it's riddled with ads. The Play Store has a section for kids, which seems to have better quality apps and games. Also thinking to subscribe to Play Pass so she can try out paid games. Any other tips? Especially how to find good free / paid games. I don't mind paying for good games. Also I'm aware I can block ads using eg Pi Hole (already doing that) or sometimes putting it on airplane mode, but that's not my point. I want to find and support quality games.

Syncler: Less content than Stremio?
I've got Stremio set up with RD and so far very happy. However, recently got [an annoying issue with playback](https://github.com/Stremio/stremio-bugs/issues/535) so I thought let's give Syncler a try. It was a pain to set up as buying Syncler+ requires crypto, or paying twice as much. Got it working, added RD, added [the Express provider package excluding Orion](https://github.com/JakedUp/Syncler-Packages), but for some shows I get no results whereas in Stremio it worked fine. For example, Starstruck doesn't work in Syncler; it loads for a minute or so with lots of sources, errors, etc. and then says 0 sources found. Other shows load fine. Should I add another source, or am I just unlucky? Or is there another alternative that works with Realdebrid? I'm on Android TV (CCWGTV). I have got Seren in Kodi, but not a fan of the UI. I like the slick UI of Stremio :)

SearXNG: Is it possible to add widgets?
I'm interested in setting up SearXNG, so had a look at the public instances. What I found is that the search results page don't contain widgets. For example in DDG, when I search for "restaurant x" I get a widget with information about restaurant x with e.g. the phone number & reviews and an option to call. In Google I see widgets even more, e.g. when searching for "game review" I get a widget with all reviews for that game. SearXNG results page is just a list of results and I miss the widgets. I had a look if there are plugins, but couldn't find any. Is there any way to add widgets like above examples?

[SOLVED] - Stremio - RealDebrid taking down shows?
SOLVED: RD is in maintenance. My kids are watching this show called Kitty Katz: https://web.stremio.com/#/detail/series/tt27146569 and it was working fine via RD up until this morning. Right now it's showing No Streams Found. Other shows work fine. Also when I check 1337x.to I can't find any torrents for this shows. They're still available via usenet luckily. What has happened here? DMCA takedown?

Bug in Stremio? Missing episodes and no streams found
I'm loving Stremio so far, but having bad luck with the TV show Only Murders in the Building. It's a fairly recent show. However, it doesn't show any episode information for season one and two on Android. On Google TV it does show the episodes but getting No Streams Found for every episode. I could easily found it on usenet so guess it's a bug with this show? Or do I need to add more providers? I've got Torrentio with Realdebrid configured and all other shows and movies seem to work fine.

Looking for replacement of my Vero 4K => Google TV 4K?
I've got a Vero 4K to watch photos stored on my NAS. It is a couple of years old and it seems to be dying. My requirements are: - Watch videos stored on NAS via NFS/SMB - Install Stremio - 4K - Available in NZ - Sound doesn't matter too much as I have a simple sound bar. The Google TV 4K is sold here for NZ$79 and gets raving reviews. It seems I can install Stremio and VLC or Kodi, so that should meet my requirements. The alternative is a Xiami TV Stick 4K which is NZ$69 I know the NVidia Shield is the best, but they are above budget. Probably my only concern with these dongles is that they are WiFi based, but I have a very solid WiFi network with an Ubiquiti access point, so that should be fine. So I'm leaning towards the Google TV 4K, any concerns or considerations?

Kodi / osmc - one TV show not detected properly
This tv show is showing as empty in my Vero (running OSMC / Kodi) https://thetvdb.com/series/race-across-the-world#seasons I have to go to Videos - >Files to see it. It's showing as empty under TV Shows. I'm using my standard *arr setup so the naming is standard. It's working fine for all other shows. The only thing I can think of is that the seasons have a unique name, like it contains Latin America?
