OTTAWA – The RCMP has eased its policy on cannabis use by members, saying simply they must be fit for duty when reporting for work. The new substance use policy replaces a 2018 one that require...

The new policy says all RCMP employees must be fit to perform their duties and carry out their responsibilities, and must not be impaired by drugs, alcohol, or other substances when on duty or at work.

Will they be doing a drug test before each shift?

I have been using pretty much daily since 1966. I could never pass a cannabis test. I worked at a complex job. The list of jobs I did included machining, chemistry and chemical analysis, biological testing and the use of lab equipment to perform testing and analysis. I would also have to organize a crew and supervise complex mechanical repairs. I personally know many other people in complex jobs such as judges, doctors, and pilots who all use cannabis. For the average person it enhances them it does not degrade them. THIS IS LIE and always has been.

Are you in high stress situations involving firearms and civilians? Because if you are, please don’t take drugs that impair your judgment, no matter how well you think you’re able to perform.

From a liability standpoint, I’d hate to be the one trying to figure out if the drugs in an officer’s system played a role in them killing a person.

I don’t doubt that you’ve been able to fulfill your duties just fine, but it’s a studied fact that cannabis impairs judgment.

I’m not aware of any research that supports the idea that cannabis enhances anything. I’d be interested in reading it, though.

How come when I see people smoke up they are wrecked and barely functioning?
