The country's retirement age is one of the world's lowest - and life expectancy is higher than the US.

This is never a popular thing in any country when it’s attempted.

Life expectancy in the country has now risen above the United States, to 78 years, from just 36 years at the time of the Communist revolution in 1949.

But China’s retirement age remains one of the lowest in the world - at 60 for men, 55 for women in white-collar jobs and 50 for working-class women.

The plan to raise retirement ages is part of a series of resolutions adopted last week at a five-yearly top-level Communist party meeting, known as the Third Plenum.

Making people work longer isn’t a good resolution…this is for every country. Start paying better instead. End capitalism

Minor aside, I really dislike when things use life expectancy for things like this instead of adult life expectancy. Child mortality drastically skews it so much it’s useless.

It’ll happen here in the US within the next ten years.

Xi is not as popular as he thinks he is. There have been more protests than a lot of foreigners realize, and this ain’t doing him any favors.

China’s economy is stuck between a rock and a hard place right now.
