It’s a bit unreal to be reading a serious, sincere article about Canadian insurgency in the face of an invasion from the US. I get that The Tyee isn’t exactly mainstream journalism, but it’s hardly your local anarchist newsletter either.
After spending most of my life fearing societal collapse, instability, and war, it feels like everything is suddenly right at our doorstep. I’m scared.
Canadians have some of the best trained military in the world.
The US sends their own high profile units to Canada to get trained, especially when it comes to snipers.
Last I recall, most world records for sniping are held by Canadians, or people trained by Canadians.
Canada has long held a standard of quality over quantity, quite often the US sends their best to be trained here.
Add on the well known fact that Canadians are very well known for constantly coming up with some of the most fucked uo ways to commit war crimes when pushed too far (WW1 anyone?) And it becomes apparent why no one fucks with Canada
Everyone is always trying to be on our good side for a reason. US has numbers, and that’s pretty much it.
They would never win any kind of war against us.
How well equipped is the average US soldier to handle our climate and terrain?
Putting aside if that’s even how war works (it’s not), pretty much every nation has a story about how their warriors are the best.
In quantity, we suck balls. Our equipment is very last-generation, second-hand and worn out. Our main hope is that it doesn’t come to that. And, if it does, that someone more credible rescues us. Other than that, well, the article describes it pretty well.
I mean, and I do mean with taking it into consideration with the large conscriptable moose population and the fact that russia; a military superpower cannot deal with lil ukraine… thats still a lil optimistic, no?
Yeah, that involved massive Russian incompetence, though. It takes a while under a shitty kleptocratic dictatorship to build up to that, so the US military is bound to be a lot closer to how good it looks. The conventional war would basically end before it starts.
We’d have to grind them down like the Taliban. (Which is what the article suggests)
These supporting citizens can also engage in forms of “everyday resistance,” using millions of passive-aggressive episodes of sabotage to frustrate and drain the enemy.
