Google is way to compliant to DMCA request resulting in bad result. Bing doesnt seems to care and will happily link to live and replay of sport event (the main reason I use it personnaly) even as a first result.

PS : If you’re french dont forget to change your DNS or any quality site will not load

Google nowadays works if you wanna search something from the Wikipedia or like the same 20 websites. For anything else, good luck going through all the SEO autogenerated garbage.

SearX go brrr There’s even a tab for ′files′ which is all just torrents

Wouldn’t the apps you use track anyway? For example would it be pointless to use searX on an app like chrome, firefox or duck?

I believe the idea is that searx strips out tracking/data from the queries sent and recieved from engines.

There’s some info here

As for the browser tracking you, yes. It doesn’t matter what search engine you use on a browser like Chrome it can still track you.

There an app for android or are the tabs for PC?

I think its inferior because there are barely any search operators… Google has alot…

That’s not an unpopular opinion. It’s a known fact for years.

Clearly, I shouln’t have posted this as an “Unpopular opinion” but rather as a PSA or general advice, my bad. Just something i thought as something people should know. Also I’m sure there is better search engine out there so please share away !

Unpopular opinion: chocolate tastes good

Woah, friend. This is unpopular opinion, not crazy opinion. You need to calibrate or leave. Friend.

I don’t think this is unpopular. I just think people use Google because of the UI/UX and it being a better search engine for other things.

I use google because microsoft keeps trying to shove bing down my throat. I’d rather use a worse search engine than let them win.

I feel the same… I will make exactly zero difference, but it’s my way of fighting back against shitty business practices

I agree that google is the best search engine for most things, I use it a lot, but for speficic thing like piracy (and porn) I found Bing to be superior and wanted to share this. Afterall IMO one of the principle of piracy is to avoid relying on a single service, and find the best suited thing for your needs.

People use google bc they don’t even know what they’re doing when using a computer/phone

I use Brave and occasionally Crowdview for questions… any reason why I should find a Searx instance instead?

I just only know I have been using duckduckgo for years and for me is enough

It’s better for porn as well… A friend told me

It is vastly superior for porn and the “+” for “must include” and “-” for “must not include” work far more often than Google’s modifiers. Not 100% but close enough.

It’s a great search engine for most things not work safe, Google will always be there for my technical questions but Bing is the GOAT for the devil on my shoulder.

Apparently porn as well.

Or you can use duckduckgo that uses bings search index while protecting your privacy

I’ve been using DDG exclusively for years now and every now and then I feel it doesn’t give me what I seek and I try Google and it doesn’t find shit either.

People always say that Google results are still superior but I believe that’s only the case as long as you’re in the bubble they create based on your profile and you’re looking for your interests and like-minded opinions.

I think people say Google results are superior due to inertia. Google was really good at some point, many years ago. These days it’s laughably bad.

I found that Google is head and shoulders above DDG when it comes for my work searches. Technical stuff - like code errors, Oracle syntax, technical references, etc. I used DDG for a couple of months and had to switch back to Google because I literally wasn’t finding the results that I knew existed.

Waaaat?! That’s the first time I ever heard that. Usually people (including me) have the exact opposite experience. It’s insanely good for technical stuff.

Google search was amazing for a while in the mid 2010s but they’re losing the SEO arms race now

Aren’t all search engines kinda shit compared to 10 years ago?

I think it’s because malicious actors have gotten more sophisticated at influencing the search results and also Google stopped giving a shit. If there’s something out there that can give me 2010 Google level results, hook me up.

But I have been feeling like search engines are going extinct for a while. When the majority of content on the internet was real, search engines were useful. Now that the majority of content is fake and/or monetized, it becomes increasingly difficult for search engines to return helpful results. No matter how well optimized the algorithm, it’s like searching for a needle in a haystack.

And it’s far less cluttered. I use it because it gives me the same or better results than Google and it’s UI is waaay cleaner and reflects my dark style preference without having to reload it even once.

DuckDuckGo has been harming people’s privacy for years now. Ironically in part because it allows Microsoft’s ad network through due to their partnership. Luckily there are many other alternatives out there.

I’m curious about this… I’m having a hard time finding good info on this…

That comment doesn’t even talk about it It only mentions a bunch of alternatives without anything else.

/edit: I guess you thought they meant alternatives. Pretty sure they meant the privacy issue you claimed as fact.

At least that’s what I was interested in.

Yep…I’m interested in the specifics of the privacy issues.

Luckily there are many other alternatives out there.

Sharing is caring friend; offer some names so that we may benefit from your research.

Apologies, here’s some. Also plenty listed on https://alternativeto.net/software/google-search/

Startpage

SearX

Ecosia

Ecosia, I’ve been using it a while now and they plant trees with there profit, I have personally covered the cost of planting 75 trees over the last couple years just be using it instead of Google. They have planted over 175mil trees and they are transparent with there finances.

Qwant sends data to Bing ads, and didn’t tell its users about it for five years.

Yandex is a Russian company with strong government links that I wouldn’t trust in any way.

Didn’t realize. Removing those.

I’m no Microsoft fan boy, but I think Bing is better than Google at most things. The only thing I use google for now a days is a spell checker.

bing is great with results if you know the right keywords to use!

I use duckduckgo atm which I think gets some of its results from bing. I only ever go to Google to see the quick summaries without clicking to any page when you type “what’s the weather” or “10 GBP to USD” and stuff like that

I’ve found yandex to work even better. But yeah bing is way better than Google.

Isn’t Yandex Russian?

Yep.

Don’t they still provide that link at the bottom of the first page with a list of all the DMCA’d content in one convenient link (so you can be sure to avoid it)?

No, now they just say “some content has been removed” but don’t say what, who and why

I don’t believe they do that anymore, but I could be wrong.

Searx is the best because its uses multiple search engines at the same time
