These are nice free options:

  • Re-vanced YT Music
  • Spotube

Not self hosted though

My brain read that in John Oliver’s mocking voice. xD

🤫 you forgot to type two zero when you listed the original price. And surely you wouldn’t want to part with it, at least not for the amount any person would offer. Only corporates might have the amount you would accept, but surely none might be interested in that domain…

Wait, let me help you flip it right way again.

Now I wanna see if I fail other generational Captchas!

If the password database is just locally stored/accessed, then it’s still not as bad. Usually password compromising happens because an online service gets hacked or has a bug. That’s why it’s bad to use the same password multiple times. The biggest risk of having the personal machine targeted directly is via scams or other social engineering attacks. And if your dad fails those, then a strong master password wouldn’t make a difference.

What Router can you recommend?
Hi, I got a new router from my ISP, but it doesn't even have an option to change the address of the DNS server... So I'm gonna switch (if necessary also the ISP). I have never used a custom router, so I would appreciate a push in the right direction. What can you recommend? Synology? FritzBox? Asus? Bridge Mode on the ISP router + RasPi? The following I am running on a separate device, but if possible it would be nice to have it directly on the router device: * PiHole * Wireguard * DDNS updater

While many will be understandably angry or disappointed in our lack of backbone or perceived selfishness

I’m angry and disappointed, but it is not because awesome people stop dedicating their free time to provide a free product, it’s because some money hungry corporation decided to bully less powerful individuals who didn’t even do anything wrong.

And it’s not the first time that this company did fucked up stuff…

How can I add movies to Radarr/Ombi directly from Kodi?
Ahoy! I would like to be able to browse movies in Kodi and directly add them to Radarr. Currently I'm using the *TheMovieDb Helper* Add-On in Kodi for browsing movies, and then add them to the Trakt Watchlist. In Radarr I'm monitoring the Watchlist and automatically add the movies that way. Is there a better way to do this? For example, can I configure/use some special player in *TheMovieDb Helper* for adding the movies directly to Radarr or Ombi when I clilck Play? Or is there an other Add-on that does something like that out of the box? --- UPDATE: I'm working on a plugin that can be used as a player for *TheMovieDb Helper*. But instead of actually playing anything, it uses the information to add the movie/show to Radar/Sonarr via the API. The PoC was successful, now I have to put everything neatly together. I'll create a new post once the first version is out.

I’m using Autosync on Android for backing up my stuff, but have no gallery service on my NAS yet. I’m thinking about Piwigo, can anyone share some thoughts on it?

I guess there’s a filter that automatically replaces that site with removed…

Yeah they’re broken, the domain name says *removed* instead.

Thanks, this looks promising, especially the YTDL_OPTIONS variable. I’ll give it a try

Web interface for yt-dlp?
What's a good way to have a simple self hosted (in Docker would be nice) web interface for starting yt-dlp jobs? Preferably, I would like to have pre-defined yt-dlp commands and in the interface I can just add an URL and select which command to chose. I know I could also use JDownloader or other tools to download the media, but I specifically would like to use yt-dlp because I have multiple use case commands already defined. Thanks for the help!

2 guys, or I’ll 0 you both! 1?

First, do you need it for streamig to different devices (phones tablets, TV), or do you only need it for one device (e.g. the TV).
For the first option I’d choose Jellyfin, for the second option I’d choose Kodi.

Then decide on what device you would like to run it. This also depends on the first option. I can recommend NVidia Shield Pro. I’ve also run Kodi on a Raspberry Pi 4 before, sometimes this ran a bit laggy.

Finally, look for tutorials on YouTube.

Oooh it’s been a while, time for a re-read :D

Were you able to use the phone Bluetooth in HomeAssistant?

(Or do you not have access to interfaces like that with proot-distro? I’m not at all familiar with it…)

Very useful!

Would be nice to have an additional checkbox for enabling that a purely numeric input also shows the number characters.

E.g. with input: “32”

  • Unchecked: Shows just the space character (same behaviour as of now)
  • Checked: Shows the space character, “2” and “3”

In another course (statistics if I remember correctly) by another teacher, we actually had to interpret and write MATLAB code on paper, so it was absolutely necessary to be familiar with it even though it was not the actual topic of the course and it was never mentioned as a necessary tool for the course or whole study. There were only books listed that we had to get beforehand, which is pretty normal. Imo they should at least have listed it there, or provided it to the students.

I think I know that course coordinator xD

We had pretty much the same experience. The guy was even kinda pissed off when I said the same could be done in Python too without much additional effort. So our whole class also used the “free student version” 🏴‍☠️

In my opinion it makes a huge difference between pirating for education compared to pirating for commercial use.

Piwigo looks nice.

I’m trying to get it to run (in docker), but I can’t get it to connect to my MariaDB

I don’t know overseerr yet, sounds like it might be useful for my gf 🤔 Also never heard of unpacker, gotta check out the advantages of that.

I only recently finally got into docker and it’s amazing. Good thing I spent the extra bucks for the NAS that supports it back when I bought it some years ago. Maybe I’ll switch Sonarr/Readarr/Readarr and Prowlarr to docker too, so that I can manage everything the same way.

I was so close to going legal and signing up for Netflix, and then all the other platforms started to pop up and the content got split over all those. I just want one platform for all my favourite shows and movies. It should be shared like with Spotify/Google-/Apple-/YouTube-Music, not the exclusive chaos that it is now.

Synology NAS (with SynoCommunity) + Transmission + Sonarr/Radarr/Prowlarr/etc + Kodi

It’s amazing, the new episodes or movies just show up right there in the media center, with correct metadata, ready to be watched.

Why did they create a poll that is only accecible through new.reddit.com or the official app?? Of course it will be in favour of giving up 🤦🏻‍♂️

Voting with two comments as done previously is supported by all clients…

Edit: Statement from an official mod (old), they’re internally discussing about an official second post that is also accecible through old reddit
