There’s no such thing. It’s just milking people who are crazy enough to fall into the trap of buying them.
$30 is not a microtransaction, thats a macrotransaction, thats an entire other video game.

Free to play doesnt give a game a pass on predatory business tactics, they are free to play for one reason only… to sell you worthless pixels for ridiculous prices. F2P games are designed for that purpose and that purpose only.

But I agree that any paid game should have zero MTX, cosmetic or not. Industry is killing its creative aspect with all this monetisation shit.

To be fair, chromium aside, edge did start as a nice browser, but as with all MS products, they end up getting riddled with more and more bullshit over time.

Just use Firefox.

Yup, technology and especially phones have come a disgustingly long way in such a short amount of time. Running AI efficiently on them is the next step, one that we probably won’t struggle with too much.

People like Xbox would show off more games, from smaller devs, you can do a lot more in 3 days than you can in 3 hours. It was sad when they pulled out, that was the writing on the wall for E3, but its not even comparable to the game awards lmao, which is literally just a 3 hour ad break.

No, the players choose the player’s choice winner and contribute only 10% towards the actual winners.

The games are nominated by a committee, the committee of ‘game news organisations’ is chosen by the ‘advisory board’ of the game awards, the board consists of Activision Blizzard, Ubisoft, EA, Sony, Microsoft, Valve, Nintendo, Tencent, AMD, Riot Games, Rockstar Games, Epic Games and for some reason Kojima Productions. So they have the choice to pick their favourable ‘news’ outlets, which in turn will pick the nominees and the winners of the awards. There’s a lot of room for bullshittery to happen and with some past winners/nominees, I wouldn’t doubt there has been.

Yeah if you just watch the big players’ streams from E3 then I can see the similarities.

Games don’t need awards, it’s just all subjective anyway and just gives the cringe oscars vibe of ‘patting ourselves on the back’. You know if a game is good by it’s player reviews and how many friends have told you to play it etc, we don’t need a random set of judges deciding for us behind the scenes what the best games are.

Yes… but E3 allowed smaller devs to get an audience and allow people to try their games for early feedback, it was a place for gamers to go and experience new games, meet people in the industry etc. The game awards is literally just a 3 hour long advert for the highest bidders. The game awards doesn’t give a shit about anything but the money they are rolling in, they get more and more shameless with it each year, a lot of developers complained this year as they were quickly ushered off stage to make way for the next big advert.

Of course its ads, but the main focus was the convention and not the streams. The crowds were fans and lots of developers got to show off their games. The game awards is just the worse part of e3 amplified, the awards themselves mean absolutely nothing, they are skipped over anyway, but imo gaming doesnt need an awards show, it’s silly. The rest is just publishers paying for segments and a bunch of devs and random celebrities sit and watch in the crowd. I don’t know how anyone sits and watches it. E3 was fun cause you could watch anyones perspective as they walked around and did interviews, met people etc, or even better if you could make it there yourself.

It was like computex of the gaming world, where any journalist could come and take part, which is not like geoff’s bs at all.

They are just massive advertising circle-jerks.

Sad. We will just end up with geoff keighley’s shitty events now.

Gamescom is still doing well though.

It’s not the size of the ship, it’s the motion of the ocean.

Like CDPR changing Cyberpunk from RPG to Action-adventure. At least the game didn’t release at that point though, but still. I mean Destiny even gets called an MMO when it isn’t. Genre is kind of misused a lot, people just need to stop buying or getting invested in games that haven’t even released.

Yeah, that’s what all trailers are, but Rockstar ones are never that great. Compare them to, for example, Bethesda trailers. It’s a night and day difference, even if the Rockstar games are usually better, the Bethesda trailers just instill more awe and hype imo. It’s the way trailers usually tell a mini story, the music having impact with what’s on screen and the Rockstar trailers usually miss the mark on this.

sips! now that’s a real guy.

Rockstar really suck at trailers don’t they. Normally the games speak for themselves though, so let’s hope this is another good one.

I mean, if they pull it off it will be great, but until it’s in our hands, there are no expectations.

It’s all for game pass. They want to lock people into their favourite games with a subscription, that’s where the money is for Xbox at the moment, all these buyouts are for securing their service as ‘the one to want’ before others clamber into the space. So I suspect things at ABK will continue as they have been doing for the most part, but with the games on game pass and maybe some more Xbox ports.

Steam versions of games just work a lot better. If Xbox had game pass on Steam, it would see a lot more take up I bet.

They are nowhere near getting a monopoly of gaming. It sucks that studios are becoming more consolidated yes, but it’s not monopoly level which is why this merger wasn’t blocked.

Yesss, it’s UX was the main selling point it had over competitors and why I also kept with it. It has slowly started going down hill with all these library and playlist changes they have seemingly made for no reason at all, while they keep ignoring user requested features. Will check out this spotube.

I hope the OSRS wiki really influences others, that wiki is top quality, the best out there honestly. Fandom, fextralife and such can all die in a hole.

I am happy Weird Gloop have decided to host the Minecraft wiki.

Yep. The first few hours of a game are really important. If people tell me it gets better later I usually assume they are suffering from sunk-cost at that point. There are some games that genuinely start slow and end up really good, but it’s not common.

Terraria is a 2D sandbox but with good progression built in with interesting bosses and items. The early game in these games are usually the most fun in my opinion, building up from nothing is satisfying.

Yeah, was so ambitious, but progress is so painfully slow. If they delivered on what they have said though, the game will be incredible, but I highly doubt that is ever going to happen, I gave up hope almost a decade ago.

It’s a shell of a game, it looks like an early prototype that was rushed out the door. And that’s probably exactly what it is, it’s an attempt at a quick cash grab using an old popular IP. If you enjoy it, that’s fine, but let’s not keep collectively lowering our acceptable standards.

Yeah, if you can, get a PC, they might cost more initially but they pay for themselves in the long run. No reason to own a console.

I bet Steam machines would do better if they were released now.

People get way too excited for any game, should always expect a pile of shit these days and just be pleasantly surprised instead. People are die hard fans of games like CP2077 before they even release, it’s not good.

But expectations don’t come from nowhere, a lot of the city stuff they were selling was like GTA, but the AI didn’t even release at a 2004 San Andreas level, it’s still not as good as GTA AI and that’s just people walking/driving around convincingly. GTA V itself was 7 years old when CP2077 released, it’s not surprising people were expecting a simulation of the world to be at least as good as that. I think their scope was too big, there was probs a lot of mismanagement behind the scenes. I don’t know how they spent 8 years on it and it still turned out like it did, I guess we will never know what happened. The story is the only saving grace, they should have just delayed it and tried to make it a more linear story game and just abandon any RPG-esque/open world elements that were left.

Being critical of games is good, especially ones that completely shit the bed, defending it just leads to more of that in the future. I love BG3 for example, but it has it’s fair share of issues that I can point out every time I play it. Why would I not want better products? Why settle for less? There’s too much submissive consumerism these days.

I guess we just imagined their trailers and dev interviews then aha

People defending CDPR when they completely lied about the product aha, consumers be crazy these days.

It won’t have a large effect, but in previous examples of companies doing this, comments would lead me to believe more people who pirated end up buying the game to support the devs after trying it. It makes sense too, but same pirates are unlikely to buy anything that had denuvo and stuff shoved into it.

The camera is very restrictive. Dos2 had a mod that unlocked the camera allowing you to zoom in or out as far as you wanted or tilt it as much as youd like and it made the game infinitely more enjoyable. It still got stuck on terrain like, but it was still better.

BG3 has the same camera, constantly getting stuck on or in terrain, cant handle elevation changes, cant zoom out, cant tilt far. The game just needs a free cam where I can look wherever I like without it colliding with terrain and objects, there’s no reason for it to be so restrictive. Why build this beautiful world and then dont even let us look at it?

Still has the shitty locked camera though and lots of the same little issues DOS2 had. They are great games, so the small problems stick out a lot more.

Ahaha. He managed to write all that and say nothing, he really needs professional advice before making public statements, he can’t help but jump in with his first thoughts. Classic linus though just deflecting “we got some really big things coming up guys! forget about this!”

Pretty much. First one was priced well, 2nd is overpriced. Lots of pretentious marketing too, over essentially what amounts to a gimmick yeah.
