I don’t think there’s anything wrong the freedom of choice. Although I do agree the implementation of the romance options is a bit heavy handed.
It’s not just your companions, which could have been seen as just being “player-sexual”, but also NPC characters in relationship with other NPC characters, which are more direct statements.
