Saw this on bluesky and thought I’d share here since I think there’s a lot of trans folks trying to find ways out of the US and this could potentially help in the future.

I never said they weren’t reputable, they even allow signers to opt-out of being contacted. I will stand by my statement that organizations, both in political and social justice spaces, mainly use these petitions to attract new donors and volunteers.

I guess it really depends on was you think qualifies as a “successful petition.” IMHO, at best, it could lead to more people being engaged with Queer Momentum. Maybe there’s a chance of media attention? I’m not sure what else can be achieved.
Have you heard about this whole insurgency thing? That was with 60-90 percent of the country (depending on which one) supporting our presence. When the entire country doesn’t want you there you won’t be able to walk down the street without getting shot at. Canada would be the 51st state for the exact amount of time we’re willing to keep most of our active duty Army deployed there.
Won’t anyone who wants to get outta the States just declare themselves to be Trans to skip the queue? Like, how would this work? Is the petition to give transfolk priority over other immigrants? I’d appreciate an actual discussion, please.
You would still have to go through the same long and hard process as any other asylum seeker. Idk where you get the idea that trans people would be prioritized all this petition is about is legally qualifying trans people as apart of the class of people that can seek asylum in Canada.
If you want an actual discussion is a statement like, “we shouldn’t help asylum seekers because what’s stopping an immigrant from exaggerating the conflict they face in their original homeland to try and seek asylum?” In good faith?

FYI, in 2023, an official petition on a similar topic got over 16K signatures.
But did that 2023 petition actually change anything? Or did they just get a 16k mailing list for free?
I’m pretty the government already has a mailing list. The email address is used “to confirm your signature” and, if you opt-in, provide updates.

This is the same argument as “if gays can get married won’t people just get gay married to avoid taxes?”
