Hi everyone! My current gaming setup is the following:

  • Desktop PC with AMD CPU and GPU in my studio, WiFi 6 5ghz connected
  • Samsung 4k TV in my living room with a standard Chromecast device in and a (modded) Nintendo Switch, all WiFi connected

I want to find a way to stream my desktop PC game to my living room. What’s the best software and hardware I could use? Do you have something to suggest?

as your switch is modded, you could install Moonlight to stream from your PC using Sunshine, but if it’s over WiFi you might hit latency issues :(

Haven’t had issues over an AC1900 wife setup here!

Don’t Samsung TVs have Steam Link integrated? That would get you pretty far.

I have a similar problem but with an LG WebOS TV which doesn’t get a Steam app without jailbreaking. Currently, I have a Fujitsu Futro s920 thin client(upgraded to 256 GB SSD and 8 GB RAM) which can output 4k but performance isn’t great.

It does have Steamlink but last time I tried I had lots of problem with controllers and the video was extremely bright without any reason. Do you think Steam Link would be better if I had a dedicated device such a Chromecast Android TV?

Sounds like HDR turned on on the TV, but not on the device sending video.

This makes sense! I will try tinkering with the setting!

Some of this will have some bias because of my own experience, but for me the best setup has been with:

  • Apple TV 4K - It has apps for both Steam Link and Moonlight, generally has low Bluetooth latency, and the wireless and wired network adapters are great at getting low latency.

  • if you’d rather avoid Apple, the Nvidia Shield is another good option, it supports those apps as well. I just personally found the experience smoother on ATV.

  • the chrome cast ultra can be a good first step. I just can’t remember how different the base model is. But try finding Moonlight app.

Regarding software, Steam Link is the easiest to set up because it is integrated with steam, but sometimes you get encoding artifacts, and you have less control over setting the best bitrate for your network. I do like the network connection graph it has in the configuration settings though.

So check out Sunshine to stream from your pc, supports AMD cards as well. And then the Moonlight app.

Hope you can find what best setup works for you!

Thank you for your suggestion!

Is running an optical usb, and optical hdmi cable an option?
