No, I wont name the specific title. I don’t want to break Rule 3. But I do want to understand why a movie or show can be so hard to find, because maybe that will lead me to understanding how to find things.

I am surprised how hard it is to find some titles. Maybe it’s because the one I’m thinking of is an old title, 60s or 70s era. But it’s extremely popular, even today. It’s been on hopping around streaming services. One would think it would be readily available on the high seas too. I don’t really know how one creates a torrent but I’m assuming anything that can be streamed can be captured. I guess maybe it’s just not as popular as I think?

Books seem to be somewhat harder to come by, movies are a bit easier. For instance, I was just looking for a collected torrent for a certain Choose your own series from my childhood and I couldn’t find anything. I found one-off/individual books or very limited collections, but nothing for the entire series. Very frustrating.

For a moment I think this was a Linux community talking about X.Org.

X is dead.

Long Life X

On RedHat-provided Life Support, yes, but dead, not yet. Only when Redhat ends support for RHEL 9, and thus, for X.Org.

Wayland is still horrible on nVidia cards

So, not as dead as you think. Also many apps still run through xwayland

I blame that 100% on Nvidia. Buying an Nvidia card these days for Linux makes about as much sense as buying an iPhone to run Android. Linus summed it up well https://youtu.be/iYWzMvlj2RQ

The number of applications that run through xwayland is shrinking every day.

X is still the only choice for certain roles. Wayland is missing absolute window positioning (required for certain multi-window apps), color management, and drawing tablet support is spotty. Some apps will never be ported to Wayland.

X is bloated, old, obsolete, impossible to maintain, and immortal.

Public or private tracker?

On private trackers we can request stuff and others will have a look if they have it or if they can get it on their trackers.

Unfortunately it’s difficult to upload stuff on many trackers but it’s easier on quality trackers. The source is even open source so I do not understand why many trackers still have a bad website.

How long are you searching for? Sometimes it just takes time until someone uploads it. That’s the beauty of servarr. You request it and some day it’ll pop up.

Hmm maybe usnig servarr is the way to go. I couldn’t really figure out how I was supposed to configure it. Ideally I would just wanna use a VPN, TPB, and qBit and not fiddle around with any additional programs. It’s already confusing enough! But I guess servarr is something I can incorporate into qBit?

TPB isnt the best source for media and it can’t really hold up to its past glory anymore - you could give other sites like 1337x.to a try

+1 servarr It took me a while to navigate the (high) sea of information but eventually I got a setup I like. I started, like you say, just running qBit but found the search results limited and tedious to review manually. Get started with Prowlarr if nothing else. No need to jump in the deep end with everything all at once but once you see how it works you can add other components later.

Any tips on getting in to a private tracker these days? Don’t they all need invites from friends?

Successful?

You can easily find working trackers by looking into the list of trackers that prowlarr provides. If a tracker isn’t on that list, you don’t want to get into it.

You search for your language and the desired content and then you open 10 tabs for 10 trackers. Some can be closed directly because there are no open registrstions. For the other 5 you send a text about yourself and your torrent experience and behavior. The content you are looking for, the quality and what you can provide. Your setup, etc. Copy paste the text to those 5 and you’ll get invited to at least 3 of them. You can also just start out with one. It doesn’t need to be your desired or final tracker. It needs time to understand torrenting anyway. Just being on one is a good start. Setting up servarr takes time as well. Use 1337x.to and just look for your first tracker.

Thanks i’ll take a look at prowlarr. I am familiar with 1337x and a couple other public trackers, sadly they don’t have the ones I am looking for :(

Whoops my bad ! Apologies to mods

A lot of older movies are available for free on ad based second tier streaming services. I would think that makes them much lower of a priority for a lot of people. No one’s going to keep a torrent going in the background 24 hours a day for a movie from 1968 that two people a year actually come looking for

Maybe it’s not as popular as you think, or wasn’t released on easily ripped mediums and no one has yet put in the effort.
