The bigots who are only pretending to care about kids will never, ever, be satisfied, because they’re fascists.
Moving queer-themed and poc/minority books to “age appropriate” sections is just the start.
Eventually they’ll want them either removed or heavily censored.
Then straight up banned entirely; this includes banning the sale of those books.
Citizens Defending Freedom, a national group that is simultaneously pushing to ban books elsewhere in Texas
Freedom for only some, but fuck everyone else- The GOP
Dubbed by critics as “Moms for Liberty in suits,” Citizens Defending Freedom is increasingly playing a role in local politics across Texas. A national organization that promotes Christian conservative candidates and policies at the local level, Citizens Defending Freedom frames their mission in tones that are common among promoters of Christian dominionism—a theological movement which posits that America is a Christian nation ordained by God and that Christians must take authority over all aspects of society.
Oh gods these freaks want a Theocracy. Those always result in persecution and corruption.
I learned about https://torrentgalaxy.to/ recently. I’m not positive it’s a good alternative though.
I partially blame the Left for not addressing mental health issues for our younger boys and men and not doing a better job at expressing what healthy, happy masculinity actually looks like. So the likes of Andrew Taint, Joe Rogan, Matt Walsh and the likes basically swooped in and took that over.
I’ve got a 15 year old nephew who’s starting his Sophomore year in like a week. I’ve already heard him say some rather disturbing extremist right-wing shit, and sadly his father fucking sucks at being a father so correcting him hasn’t been easy for me (I’m the aunt, his mother is not currently in the picture). And he says this shit with his little sister around too.
Buying an ebook from Amazon but then pirating an epub version of the same book (Calibre currently unable to crack Amazon’s newest DRM since earlier this year).
People are basically just renting their books from Amazon right now; you don’t really “own” it if you can’t read/listen to it on other devices and apps. That never sat right with me, and when I decided to leave the Kindle ecosystem, I couldn’t read those same ebooks in other apps. So now I refuse to ever buy any of my books from Amazon and am currently using Libby for most of my audiobooks/ebooks and B&N for the physical artbooks I want.
Sadly a lot of the indie authors I read are part of Amazon’s KU, so their books are not legally available outside of that ecosystem. =( So I’ve stopped reading them.
But at the very least they have a business model that does not consist of selling all my data to the highest bidder.
You can’t possibly believe that.
Now, will they comply with law enforcement, usually yes. That’s part of running a company, and that’s a good thing. But what do you expect?
I expect my encrypted data to remain encrypted and out of the laws hands.
I use https://himovies.sx/home but fmovies is my backup.
