Like you, I am a living person with memories, emotions, and interests. But from your perspective, I’m just another picture on a screen. Isn’t that concerning?

a lot of the people making these posts don’t realise they are going to fake clone sites with a lesser library that could even be potentially dangerous. even outside of this space people are fooling themselves, I saw someone on discord post a fake 9anime link yesterday.

so called mothership being taken down meanwhile I am about to watch a newly downloaded show once my breakfast is done

Like 50GB of music, probably about 30gb of shows. though I only started downloading shows very recently, like earlier this year.

when a wildfire took down my internet last month I sure didn’t regret hoarding. I had plenty of unseen entertainment at my disposal, watched a bunch of new shows. when it did come back I decided not only to keep hoarding anything interesting to me, but to invest in a new backup drive to keep the hoard safe lol.

I used to love them. Really I did. Under iwata the company was truly something special for a while. But as with all companies, the fall from grace has been hard. I don’t know a single person with a good opinion of Nintendo anymore. Even a surprising amount of irl people who are not in the know about a lot of piracy and modding stuff seem to at least know enough from recent events that Nintendo are beyond irreparably evil.

I only learned to torrent because my dad used to when I was a kid. But these days I use XDCC instead because it’s just so much more convenient. Though to be fair most of my friends who are also GenZ probably don’t know how to do that either.

Modded run of fallout New Vegas at the moment. Probably gonna get the fallout 4 season pass as well.

Been super patient since 2015, so I’m finally playing fallout 4. Installed a few just-for-fun mods that don’t otherwise break the story or flow of the game. So far I’m super into it!

While I don’t plan on being a parent, I will say that I did learn a good bit about piracy from my dad when I was younger, which kept me away from obviously shady things and now that I’m older I pretty much have a routine in place for my stuff whereas he doesn’t even use a computer anymore. I think it’s worth it really.

I’ve been itching to play atomic heart ever since me and a friend tried the demo the other day. probably gonna pick it up when I get paid.

wow, I was kind of expecting this to be an exaggeration but you are right. I just checked over there and it’s just memes, news articles, and arguing.

It actually seems like one of these or a raspberry pi running Kodi might be exactly what I’m looking for. Thanks!

My TV is a dumb TV (for lack of a better name). It does have a USB port, but it only displays photos and can’t play external footage. I keep all of my downloaded media on an external HDD. I did look into the whole XBMC aka Kodi / jellyfin combo stuff for a bit.

Offline alternatives to Roku / Streaming boxes
Hopefully this is the right kind of question for this community, my apologies if not. I'm looking for some sort of device that will let me load my own media from a USB / SD card, and play it to my TV. Does such a device exist? Some sort of remote controlled box that can just load mp4 / mkv files from locally hosted storage? I have been using my PC over HDMI but it can get annoying having an awkward room layout because my computer always has to be next to the TV to do this.

Been really into call of duty unexpectedly after about a decade away, so I’ve been playing warzone with my friends. In my solo time, I’ve been inching my way through broken reality, it’s a really great game with vaporwave/ retro aesthetics.

Damn, even some low-key projects like iVanced were hit. I doubt this spells the end of third party apps but they’ll probably go the way of being distributed on various russian download forums or telegram instead.

Finally remembered my login for PokeMMO after 7 years so I’ve been finally going back and finishing the various regions. Starting the new (er… 1 year ago new) johto update soon!

I go crate digging through soundcloud and bandcamp every so often, once in a while ill play a mix on youtube. Even if I only really like one or two songs on an album, i usually still download the entirety of it because sometimes i like just having songs on in the background if they fit a vibe i’m feeling. This is especially true for me with vaporwave, probably wouldn’t bump it on my commute for example but it can really make me drift mentally if i have it on in the background while say, browsing lemmy or something. And of course for my absolute favourite artists I tend to have almost if not the entire discography.

As a music artist myself, i can say that most sample pack trading is done on private communities and kept way under wraps. I used to begrudgingly use discord servers for this but i’ve managed to stockpile so many by masse downloading that I left them all in the end. though if you just want drumkits there is https://rdx.overdevs.com/subreddit.html?r=Drumkits

Steadily trying to 100% Bejeweled 3, but have definitely been slowed down as today I discovered the joy that is rollercoaster tycoon deluxe and played for about 6 hours in one sitting!

I try to support physical media when I can because it’s more consumer friendly than streaming exclusive shows. there are a lot of shows I just pirate. these days though my physical collecting is pretty much just manga.

funny as im seeing this while nuking my old reddit account. havent used it since they took apollo from me and honestly i won’t miss it. they are just digging their own grave at this point.

i do not think a centralized effort would work for pirated content. look at all the websites that have gone down over the years.

look up rehike for youtube if you are curious. It works for me and many people.

I load the old 2014-2017 layout locally from my C drive as my localhost and proxy it to load when i type in youtube dot com. avoids ads, increases performance, and looks better as a layout all in one.

This is actually so ridiculous. Megaupload literally had anti piracy warnings everywhere and would block you from being a top uploader if you hosted pirated content, not to mention the fact that they had a moderation team actively deleting pirated files and implemented filesize limits. Can’t wait for a generation that actually understands the internet to be in charge. IIRC thats more than was sentenced for literally running down two teengaers with a car. this really makes my blood boil.
