A surprisingly high number of leftists still use it as well.

My initial position was that AI art would be exciting when a more carefully curated training data is used. … But after some talking with friends, I think we’re living in a world that has minimal respect for copyright already, except when a corporation has a problem with it and wants to bring down the hammer of the law.

It does hurt and its easy to be emotional about artists’ livelihoods being threatened by AI, they aren’t the only laborers threatened by job loss to automation, but this one hurts the most.

So now its just up to AI and artists to make interesting art with it. And for artists to adapt to this environment that has automated art tools.

Like I care. Amazon bought it, they have a monopoly, hey maybe these consumer facing startups would be more profitable if all the money wasnt already distributed so unevenly?

I have never even heard of giclee printing.

In hindsight this sounds like a good idea, but certainly no one used this junk.

All I know about Bluesky is what’s in the name. When you look at the Fediverse tree, every branch, leaves, and roots are labelled. But the sky isnt. Bluesky. I believe the intent is to be bigger and far more important than the Fediverse, smother it rather than let it grow. Jack is a businessman, after all. He really liked having a hugely important platform in Twitter and how much political power it was beginning to have.

So true. A lot of creators are actually very dependent on the accessibility of their content, but also the drama present on twitter. Mastodon takes patience not only from the creators but the users… What if they get bored before they see your content? Thats not good for business.

I loved how much trans joy was actually in this movie. If they’re trying to detrans people its like… Wow look at all of these unbelievably happy trans people on youtube and tumblr. But did you know… If you take hormones for medical transition it has permanent effects? 👻

Like… Yea, yea it does.

Prager U is starting to look like controlled opposition. Inadvertently putting the highlight on all of this awesome LGBT2SQIA+ content and people.

The more I’ve delved into free and open source, the more I’ve seen what isnt normal: stuff that isnt designed out of the box to be eye-candy. Seeing the complete opposite side of the spectrum, its clearer that Facebook isnt just eye candy, good animations, timely pop-ups, and perfectly targeted ads. It’s everything and more. The addictive tactics have created an emergent highly addictive quality. And dont even get me started on Instagram.

+1 to this I open matrix and its very boring compared to opening discord. ☹️

Rossmann has a millionaire backing up his repair business among other things.

Why does everybody seem to know all of this dirt about Louis except me? I’ve seen this “be suspicious of anything Rossman is involved in” comment a few times in the past few days. I’m out of the loop.

Frankly the vast majority of my favorite creators have not been able to handle youtube and most have moved onto Twitch, where I’m not so interested in watching. Banned from YouTube though, or demonetized? Now we’re talking about ~5 creators Ive watched instead of hundreds.

Oh SHIT this is the first time I’m being made aware of that.

What fresh hell of goalpost moving is this? You’re so bad faith.

Well this sounds funny, but really? I think our newest tech is applied in… Research, manufacturing, weaponry, speed/efficiency/throughput.

On the consumer side of things, we have new technology applied in TVs, movie theatres, and video games. Depending on how “new” is new to you. NGL porn does get a lot of love from tech, though. Not only video resolution, 3D video, and VR… But teledildonics, fancy new backend (ha!) Systems for all of this streaming and payment.

What do you think?

I guess some new technology is applied in super churches. More likely the prices lowered on some entertainment tech, making it accessible for them. But hey it happens.

I would argue Zuckerburg had a lot of control over this project, lost a lot of money, and shareholders, due to the structure of Meta as a company, could do fuck all about it.

… But in almost literally every other company on earth, yea this is the case. And meta made these decisions in a world defined by the relationship you just described.

I can see the need for a community that requires more from a poster than just dumping a link with a title.

On tumblr they’re writing fanfics about clowns breeds as if they’re pets. I mean come on.

But I wonder if that blogging style, adding stuff that makes oneself look complex and interesting, is what originally inspires those complex posts.

Thin clients! $30, sometimes $15, for just as much CPU power as the Pi. More power usage, though. And ensure you buy the cables and SSD, check carefully what the seller is including or excluding from the shipment.

Yea the default instance is overloaded. So I changed the instance to one that loaded a little faster, and then enabled cookies on piped.video so it would stay that way. I still find piped has more loading than Invidious, so I use a mix of that and actual youtube.

Billionaires spend billions making some jobs just a bit more efficient, against the wishes of the people who do those jobs, and then cry when it doesn’t actually pay that much.

This doesn’t sound like worth celebrating, to me. I’m 26 and unemployed for family reasons. Would me working and hiring someone else to do this labor be an improvement? Should I hire a caregiver, a driver, a maid, and a handyman? All while I break my body in a warehouse? Orrrr should I just be unemployed for like, a year? 🤣 unemployment for all. More need to be able to choose, it would improve the effectiveness of society.

We as a community should be rating brands and holding them accountable. Similar to Buy It For Life, but around clothing value per dollar and ethics. I’ve looked for lists like these, and they exist, but aren’t realistic - just absurdly expensive for nothing of value.

There ia a real problem where great products can’t afford the marketing.

No hey this is valuable added input. Sorry you’ve had a rough experience, and I’ll take this as a warning that I will most likely have to learn some new skills in dealing with the issues you’re describing.

Quake that people actually play. Like look at the virality of Battle bits Remastered, the Battlefield with block characters so you can have like 200 people in the match. Games need to feel snappy and run on a lot of low tech machines, and developers are mostly never catering to that budget demographic. FPS games have a huge demand for this. The hundreds of thousands of nerds who can infodump about how incredible the Source engine feels is my proof. So yeah I think there is still a market for competitive movement game 2.0 - a team fortress 3, a titanfall 3, a quake / unreal tournament that runs well and allows community mapping. Like unironically last gens engines followed the wrong upgrade paths and there is still more performance to squeeze out (titanfall 2 using highly customized source and it looking like a AAA game rather than a source game as my proof)

Hey OP,

https://www.tomshardware.com/news/possible-raptor-lake-refresh-launch-date-leaked

It sounds like Intel is releasing mid-October. I don’t know if Intel is of interest to you, and these are described as flagship cards. I also have no idea if this will effect prices on other cards or not.

Because I’m on Linux I have no interest in Intel / Nvidia, though Intel can have amazing performance on Linux when they give it the proper firmware updates.

Intel’s previous release was not great, by the way. This does throw doubt in my mind this next one will do anything for you other than potentially reflect in the prices of other products. 🤷‍♀️

6700 XT ($320) is indeed faster than the RX 7600 ($250) - it’s just that I already know OP is on a 1080p (22") monitor. I’ve seen the BG3 and CS:2 benchmarks, but not the cities skylines 2 benchmarks.

I also have a stupid question, but does support / firmware updates matter a lot for GPUs? It’s been a while for me. The 7600 is brand new from last month, and the 6700 XT is from… 2 years ago? Is that support gonna expire soon or am I making up a problem that doesn’t exist?

I was pretty frustrated reading about the Microcenter 5800x3D situation. I am so jealous of city dwellers lately, I’m looking for reasons to seethe about living in the middle of nowhere.

To play devils advocate, I think on a budget Am5 mobo (b650) Pcie 4 x 4 is the main or only storage choice? I think my mobo came with one pcie 5 x 4 m.2 slot, or maybe it didn’t even. And then graphics cards might be on pcie4 for much longer yet as they use 4 x 8 lanes while using a 4x16 slot. There’s been a leak that a Pcie5 card from AMD MAY release soon. Neither OP or I will need it for a 1080p monitor though 😆

I honestly let fears about upgradeability get to me a lot more than I hope OP does. I think there is a sub-$1000 Am5 build that can make a terrific value/longevity out of this situation. But when I did, I talked myself into spending a lot more. 😅

Bringing up AM6 is a terrific point! AM5 high end has some really bad issues right now, and AMD very well might to redesign the chip and/or socket to get better performance.

Gamers Nexus said they will do a Cities Skylines 2 benchmark next week I think. Not that it will necessarily change your build at all, I’m guessing this will handle it fine and the Gamers Nexus benchmarks of BG3 would have you walking away with the same set of conclusions that you’ve already arrived at.

Ultrawide monitors often come with extra software to help you enjoy it more like built in KVM functionalities. There’s also window snapping managers on Windows like WiLMa. I’m similar to you though, 2x24" mounted to the wall.

I also went down the “is AM4 still good?” Rabitthole and decided because I don’t have a Microcenter near me, I could not get a 5800X3D, so I didn’t want to build it. After watching many videos though, AM4 is a mature platform and so thoroughly developed. Sales are on fantastic products, and the GPU and RAM will remain upgradeable for years, just that upgrading the CPU would require a new MOBO as well. Building AM5, seems OP already knows a great deal, but the news is that it can be finicky and returning products because they don’t work so well is more common than usual.
