I’ve missed this thread for a few weeks already (as in, I didn’t see it). Completed Disco Elysium twice since then, amazing game! Very sad that there’s not going to be a sequel; the world is fascinating, as is the style of gameplay.

So so so many. Right off the top of my head:

  • Guild Wars Season 2, one of the later missions. It was stealth gameplay. I hate stealth. Paid someone 100g to run it for me.
  • FTL’s boss.
  • Warframe’s Glassmaker season fight with Nihil.
  • Currently, Ace Combat 7’s Pipeline Destruction.

Have you tried installing a copy of Windows in Dosbox, then install the game from there? I remember doing something like that to play the original SimTower.

Very likely the game is 16 bit mode, which is why nothing in Windows 10’s compatibility mode is working, as it doesn’t support 16 bit programs.

The higher price isn’t permanent.

I’ve worked in camera retail and the local shops do just that, actually, and it’s effective. The FOMO people get their stuff first at a higher price, the shop gets a boost in margins, and everyone else gets to enjoy cheaper prices three months later (and have the early adopters sit through the bugs and first-run issues).

I think that’s how some creators do get paid. Large enough channels will get some form of revenue sharing from YouTube. That’s why when a video is demonetised the creators get very upset. As is when YT does some fuckery with their algorithms and their views plummet.

Mind, the rates keep getting worse, from what I hear. Hence more and more pateron and in-video promos, it’s a better and more stable source of income.

Yea, but the cost of having FB acquire your data doesn’t feel so… worth it? I’m not completely privacy-focused like many on the fediverse but I do view it as a trade-off, and at US$500 the trade-off no longer feels warranted.

Was thinking about the HP Reverb G2, it’s a little more expensive than the Quest 3, last I checked.

Realised it’s not that cheap, US$500? Feels like it’s at a price point where I could spend a couple of hundred more and not get Meta involved. Made more sense when it was US$300.

25+ years of GPUs from three different major companies, and I don’t think I’ve ever upgraded the firmware on my GPU. Support is based on the API, be it D3D or Vulkan or OpenGL. As long as there’s support your card will work.

6700XT is still a bit faster than the 7600, I think. Feel free to correct me on this.

Agree on the SSD, while a PCIe4 may not be needed, I’m sure there’re plenty of better SSDs than the Intel for cheap at this point in time. The price drops have been pretty good across the board.

Might want to wait for the benchmark tests to come out first, if the build is for CS2. I remember CS is pretty CPU heavy, so you might want to hold off on your choice of platform first.

Edit: Also, do check with the PSU tier list, don’t have to get A tier, but try something from B. A good PSU will help with the longevity of your build!

That’s a great take.

Also, most of the comments seem to be commentating on the headlines. If they bothered to click through and read, I think they’d feel more disgusted with the article than Star Citizen itself. xD

That’s a great explanation from you, as well as from @j_p_. Thanks you two, understood a bit more about these controllers.

I have no idea, I’m not familiar with this site at all. Another candidate for a ban?

Saw this article posted earlier by someone, and I’m going to say the same thing: Sus source, article reads like an AI generated one.

I’m just curious on the layout, mostly on why the up and down buttons are switched. I thought the left thumb would be down, not up.

They’re a good gauge of a game’s quality; it’s not rocket science is it?

It works for me, but I recall having to use Ublock’s element zapper and custom rules to get around a lot of the shit they pull.

You know what I commend them for this. If it helps move mobile gaming away from a microtransaction pay-to-win hellscape I’m for it.

Ah, I see. I’m quite sure we’re in different parts of the world and I guess my experience with parts availability was different. Here the problem is more of cost, as I’m sure your experience has shown, these do get expensive very quick, sadly.

Hi Termus, I’ve worked in a non-profit that dealt with this kind of thing; half of our focus was on people with disabilities. What I like about the XAC is that it has a 3.5mm jack for every button that the XBox controller uses, and the advantage of that is that you can use ANY accessible input that is available under the sun. You didn’t have to buy the MS or Logitech accessories for them. I’m wondering why you felt you had to do that?

I agree that Sony’s effort is not as good. I feel like it was created for marketing and coolness first.

MS’s Adaptive Controller is actually really good, compared to the PS one. Giving easily adaptable 3.5mm jacks to every function was a genius decision.

Especially when it’s being run by a terrible project manager like Chris Roberts. Dates will be missed.

I’m surprised they’re putting more effort into Squadron 42, it’s the only part I was interested in. Wonder if it’ll actually be released.

How long is the campaign? Just wondering if it’ll be worth the time as well.

Because for the, it’s their identiy. Their choice needs to “win”, regardless of how stupid and self-defeating in the long run it is.

The PS fan boys are the least chill. See the PS blog whenever a PC version gets announced. Some of them are just incredibly partisan and sad.

Also why I don’t want to play them. Oblivion sounded amazing but the moment I saw gameply with the NPCs, I was like, nah.

I disagree, unless it’s the modmic, there are enough people who either don’t have the space nor want to spend the money to properly place the mic (ie as near their face as possible). I’d rather they use some mediocre headset mic then place something that’d be otherwise decent like a Samson Go on a tiny tripod on the table next to their gaming keyboard, 20-30 cm away from their mouth.

PC38X is a reasonable headset, but I’m guessing Epos wanted higher margins but couldn’t get them to stay in the business. As much cachet as the Sennheiser brand might have had, the gaming headset space is pretty competitive and there are plenty of decent headsets for not a lot of money.

Don’t the Joycons use Bluetooth, which are pretty laggy on their own? I know I absolutely do not like using BT mice.

I’m not sure if you’re serious (I don’t do consoles, so if that was sarcasm it’s lost on me), but does that mean they use a wired pro controller too?

In response to your header: Play games with it. :P

I wouldn’t recommend Bluetooth as a first choice for connectivity, is there any reason you don’t want to use the included wireless adapter?

As for games, I have no idea what you like/don’t like. How potato of a PC are you using? FWIW some lower spec games I’ve played in the past several years with a controller included Cat Quest I and II, as well as the two South Park RPGs. There are also some fun co-op games like Overcooked, Moving Out and Unrailed. Overcooked really spawned a bunch of frantic co-op games that are low-spec and controller-friendly, so you can check that genre out as wlel.

Porkbun’s competitively priced, easy to use, and the name is a great reference for Sleeping Dogs to me. What’s not to like?

Ryzen 3700X, however I suggest to not worry about bottlenecking; even if does, it’s likely to give you the most FPS per $ spent on upgrading. I ran on a i7 920 for the longest time (including the GTX 1070).

GPU is almost always the first upgrade to go for.

Also, I went from a 1070 to a 6700 XT myself, can say it doubled framerates in games that needed it (Elite: Dangerous in planetside areas for example), so that’s something for you to consider; if you’re getting 30 FPS then it’ll be a good upgrade, if you’re only get 10 FPS it might not be enough.

Descent doesn’t get mentioned enough, along with the true gem, Descent: Freespace. Long and storied history there.

Yea, some kind of custom install would be good. Can’t be hard to program a dialogue before download that’ll select the right assets to install, saving both disk space and bandwidth.

The sentiment isn’t wrong. Space is cheap now. Had Star field come out when SSDs were having GPU-like pricing I’d be more outraged, but prices are falling and having multi-terabyte systems shouldn’t be an issue. Way cheaper than GPUs that can play the game, that’s for sure.

Remember Strike Commander? The floppy disk version (with very limited speech as well) wanted some 40-50MB when the common HDD sizes were 80-120 MB. I had a larger-than-average 240MB and it’d still have hurt if I didn’t have a CD-ROM drive to play the CD edition instead.

Holy shit holy shit, I thought they ended development on Grim Dawn.

Downside is, I’ll need to start a new character, the systems are dense enough that not playing for a while means picking up an existing character isn’t the easiest of things. xD
