How is this an ad? They are informing you that you can get more out of your subscription. Would it be better that they’re didn’t inform you about this and hid it away in some obscure menu somewhere?
There are lots of reasons to not like Google/YouTube, but I can’t see how this is one of them.

Manufacturers like Samsung and Motorola have their own version of the app in the play store, without disclosing it. Unless you have a custom phone or got lucky you might not be stock

This has been my experience in every job I’ve ever had.
I too was playing by the rules with premium for years. It was great. Then they gave me an ad for paramount plus even though I was playing for no ads.
I switched to freetube and haven’t gone back since.
They had my money. But they got too greedy and pushed a paying customer to the dark side.

My premium sub doesn’t do this, you can contact google live chat support 24/7 (with a premium sub) to figure this out or to get your money back

They could have easily emailed that shit instead of making it a full screen popup that shouldn’t have existed.
Maybe it’s a vendor specific thing, but my official YouTube app does not support that colour scheme. Dark mode is just gray ish

Pixel 7 Pro. I think that counts as stock YouTube as you can get (same vendor for device and application).

I’m on a Pixel 7 Pro running Android 14, YouTube build 18.45.41 The only YouTube options for the theme are light, dark, and device.
Hopefully that helps you narrow it down.
Trying to keep us paying for premium through the price hikes.
With family sharing I find it worth it anyway.
