There’s plenty of general tech comms and a load of programming focused ones, including a whole instance in programming.dev, but are there any that are more centered on Help Desk, IT, Sysadmin, etc?

For SysAdmin you can use !Sysadmin@lemmy.ml.

For LinuxAdmin you can use !linuxadmin@lemmy.run.

I haven’t found one for IT and Helpdesk yet, but I am pretty sure they are out there.

Maybe also !Selfhosted@lemmy.world. There are selfhosted communities on other servers too.

This one seems to have quite a bit of traction, though OP (is that still the correct term here on Lemmy?) would need a different account to subscribe to that instance with, as beehaw is no longer federated with lemmy.world for the time being.

Regarding instances, lemmy.pro came online shortly after I arrived here with the reddit exodus and they describe themselves like this:

Lemmy Pro is an instance intended as a “high performance” instance where we will invest in and ensure its server is high speed and robust.

An instance established to support the overall mission of Lemmy. Our instance admin is made up of folks interested in cybersecurity, web development and related IT so our communities might reflect that, but we’re welcome to all.

Might find some kindred spirits there? And assuming they live up to their claims, it seems like a rather under-utilitized instance at this point? But I don’t have an account with them personally, so I can’t vouch for them.

I have found the macadmins Slack-channel to be a great resource

A nice place to discuss rumors, happenings, innovations, and challenges in the technology sphere. We also welcome discussions on the intersections of technology and society. If it’s technological news or discussion of technology, it probably belongs here.

Remember the overriding ethos on Beehaw: Be(e) Nice. Each user you encounter here is a person, and should be treated with kindness (even if they’re wrong, or use a Linux distro you don’t like). Personal attacks will not be tolerated.
