Shortly after publishing this article in her blog, she also published a gh repo collecting incidents of misogynism https://github.com/iyzhang/misogyny/ It would be great if people can give it a read or contribute incidents.

Glad to see this article is eventually published by the ACM.

And this is the real game of monopoly, of course.

I think this is just 表弟 (younger male cousin). 老表 is too casual to be used as a tag in phone book.

Can you list some security/performance/feature comparison between matrix and discord? I don’t have the need for these class of product, but I am trying to get the hype behind discord.

AFAIK, AMD is not as good as nvidia on Windows. Also because they are less popular, they get less support from program/game developers, which is probably why people are picking nvidia.

I think even if AMD is strictly better than nvidia, it will still take years for nvidia to fall unfortunately. Look at the AMD v.s. intel problem, Intel has been strictly behind AMD for many years now, yet intel still dominates the laptop market, and doing okay in the desktop market.

Obviously, this doesn’t mean open-source supporters all need to cave to nvidia. Personally, I will avoid nvidia hardware when I can. But I think we have a long and hard battle ahead of us.

Yeah, and apparently type checking/inference is trivial, says the “CTO” of Xitter. /s

If a software is compromised to allow remote code execution, then the situation is pretty dire even without elevated privileges.

Basically your entire userspace will be compromised, and in terms of personal computing that is pretty much all you can lose.

Uh that makes sense. I guess my original comment is more out of jealousy: I have so many movies that I want to watch, but I have never find the time and energy to do so. After work, dinner, chat, duolingo, and lunch prep for my wife, I barely find any time during my night, and it is kind of frustrating for me.

Last year, I have only finished like less than 5 from like 50 titles.

I am glad people are enjoying their hobby. I personally would not be on Netflix anymore as most of the movie I want to watch is not on there, but I can now kind of see it might be worth it for others.

It also surprises me that this large amount of the population takes movie and TV as a hobby.

Why can’t people live without Netflix? Don’t they have a job, a family, OR a hobby?

I am honestly confused…

I think this is pretty much how GPL works. (maybe except the stealing part, but both stealing from corporate and FOSS are good.

After Reddit, Xitter, and Duolingo, I start to feel like hosting our work on a proprietary and profit-driven service is not a great idea.

Finally, the rail system U.S. deserves, old, loud, slow, never on time, and is under maintenance EVERY! F**KING! WEEKEND!

Likely no, and fortunately the developer has legal insurance and plan to fight the case if it happens.

So this repo is not going down any time soon.

Not “job”, these are “volunteering contributions”, that are not only time consuming, mentally consuming, and unpaid as well.

Dude, I have a heart attack when I lift a finger, causing a side effect to the keyboard.

In fact, I have a heart attack whenever my heart starts beating, causing a side effect in my veins.

I don’t have a favorite language, I just hate haskell less than all the other languages I have tried.

10 years ago, I dont think android was released on 2003.

The 2013-era slides describe, in typical modest fashion for Apple, its overall approach at the time to privacy.

Could be, I imagine there would be less work if everyone has the same OS.

I dont work in IT, but I remember there are excellent tools by Microsoft to do mass IT management (but who want to use windows anyway /jk)

would be interesting to see a comparison of IT tools avaliable macOS, Windows, and Linux distros. And how much advantage does immutable OSes like silverblue, macOS, and chrome OS provides against mutable OSes.

I think you can just lockdown the bios with a super strong password to get the similar security as macbook, no? Since I think the only one major security feature avaliable on mac, but not on PC, is a locked down bois, so attacker cannot install a malicious OS.

Assuming your bios is reasonably secure and you are using a reasonable OS with reasonable security feature enabled (like linux with LUKS and TPM auto-unlock, or windows with bitlocker), PC should be reasonably secure compare to a mac.

I would love to know what other security features mac provides that is not avaliable on a PC.

Fairphone 4 is sold and supported in NA, hope they will carry fairphone 5 as well: https://mander.xyz/comment/2699680

With 5 years of OS support and 8 years of security update. Related threads: - https://lemmy.world/post/4130880 - https://lemmy.world/post/4129394 - https://feddit.nl/post/2555704

sorry 2000… I am stupid, I read “13 century BC” instead of “13 BC”

This summary suggests all the researcher did was a google search. This is not true. Researcher only did a google search to identify the keyphrase, then surveyed the result relating to these keyphrases.

Paper here: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41562-023-01651-4

I was really confused why are we supporting firefighters that lived more than 3000 years ago, until I realized BC is british columbia

What are some cool people on nebula? I know a good chunk of urban planning content creaters are on there, which is greatly appealing to me.

I have been thinking about moving there, just wish they can store my watch history local only and ideally open-source their app, just like newpipe.

Right, since letting big tech claim ownership of their stuff online has never gone wrong ever, cough cough, DRM.

By default, yes, but most terminal allow you to just open the setting and change the keybinding. And even Ctrl-c will work as you expect, it will copy when text is selected, and terminate command otherwise.

Actually, most linux terminal allows you to change shortcut in terminal to just use ctrl-c and ctrl-v.
