An article telling people to self host read only by those who already self host. Okay.

There’s a PC port of BOTW with unlocked frame rates, higher render distances (clouds and fog turned off) and 4K textures and it’s GLORIOUS

And not just works. It works REALLY WELL. I dumped my switch onto my steam deck and sold it ages ago.

I meant the OP of the comment I’m referring to, wrong terminology I guess

The OP and I are talking about hosting video for people outside our homes. I have many friends and family who use my Plex server all over the world

Yep. My Plex server can’t handle multiple 4K streams and neither can my ISPs bandwidth. So it’s 4K download simply for stuff we watch at home and the rest of Plex content is 1080p

Fair. I’m lucky enough to be able to get business internet at home so I have a static IP and 99.9% uptime. My plex watchers and game hosting players know that sometimes around 3am, they might be booted when my networking gear auto updates itself, haha

I just have a UniFi firewall, a Synology Diskstation, and a linux server running everything. Provides torrenting, video streaming with plex, file sharing, game server hosting, music hosting, and more, and I don’t ever have to mess with it :). This is impressive but I don’t know if I would want to support it personally

I’m glad for it. This is utter insanity. I’ve been using Plex for 8 or so years and it’s always worked great.

Holy shit. I just open up Plex and it’s all there, and if it’s not I just add it with a few clicks. I had no idea this was really how thing are these days

I’ve been looking for an alternative to Feedly for RSS reading, will check this out! thanks

All the creators I support have patreons to donate to and provide their videos on other platforms. Fuck YouTube anyway

I’d just create a generic file share username and password locally in windows and use that from linux. It’s better to have some sort of credentials for your share anyway

Enable file sharing over the network in windows, create a directory on the 3TB drive, and right click the folder in Windows and select Share. It will broadcast as an SMB share over the network, and you can use it’s UNC path to access it from Linux.

In linux type $ mount -t cifs //YOURWINDOWSSHARE /mn and it will mount it as a network drive in linux that you can direct files to.

No, it’s the same as every other program that dials home. If it’s a proper cracked version that part will be already removed, if not you can just block the network communications from any of it’s components.

Instead of answering their question, tell them something completely different from what they asked.

I used a site called torrent-invites back in the day, now this was like 15 or 20 years ago so sadly I don’t know of a modern one, but I am sure you can find one if you look around. I wouldn’t worry about a VPN unless you are using ThePirateBay or some crap like that

I think you meant to reply to my post. Yes it’s the exclusive trackers that keep you safe from needing a VPN, seeding is always part of torrenting. You can earn your way into those bigger private trackers by joining an invite forum and contributing enough, once you show good ratios form other sites you’ll get invites to the big ones like TorrentLeech

I do have invites but 2/3 people I’ve invited were banned for HnR so generally I don’t invite people unless I know them. If I invite another user who doesn’t seed I’ll lose my invites completely so I’m understandably wary about handing them out

No, you don’t need it if you have trustworthy private trackers. Most people on here just use Pirate Bay or some shitty public alternative that’s seeded with all the planted stuff that the RIAA looks for

I love seeing these posts because I’ve been pirating for almost 20 years and never once have I paid for or used a VPN. I’ve never received a letter from my ISP about it. If you use a trustworthy private tracker you don’t fucking need it. Downvote me all you want but I’m not wrong.

What a garbage take. A tiny percentage of towns are college towns and even then many won’t have law programs. I lived in a college town for 12 years and didn’t meet lawyers in training

makes sense! Was hoping to hear this because if discord pulls some reddit level crap I will bounce

Yeah, this is like someone asking “how can I watch free movies” and then someone replying with how to build a business plan to run a company that films and produces movies.

Just install Plex on any old hardware and open it up to remote access. Get a cheap pfsense firewall and create a forwarding rule. Download torrents with qbtorrent on the box running Plex and have Plex indexing that folder. It doesn’t have to be a million steps of highly complex stuff. Lastly get a pihole set up with one of the many guides out there and you have essentially the same thing as this long, terrifying guide but with was less points of failure.

No. I’m in US and just use one tracker, torrent leech. It’s never caused my ISP to flag me and I’ve used it over 10 years now. If you have a good source for torrents you don’t need a VPN

This happened to me too. I download movies and shows onto my plex and watch them at my leisure. If I love a show or movie I get the Blu-ray and watch it in 4K/atmos! It’s nice being able to sample things before buying.

I use a Synology DiskStation to run plex and it’s amazing. Very easy to install and maintain. When I download stuff it gets automatically out into the plex Library which scans its every 6 hours and auto adds it. Just have to make sure what I download isn’t compressed or just decompress it
