Peter Navarro is pushing negotiators to discuss reworking country’s boundaries, The Telegraph can reveal

Dear Canada. This isn’t us. This is the new asshole in power. Americans don’t hate you. We love you. And I can’t speak for every American, but I’d rather defect and fight WITH you than fight a war against you over this petty shit.

Actually, can I defect even if we don’t go to war? I’d just LOVE to not be here the next 4 years, but I’m pretty sure I’d stay after that too. You’ll have to teach me which Canadian hockey team I should root for. And if anything, we’ll fight a war to get the Expos back.

Cool story but that is what Americans chose, yes. It’s your representative. Americans might not hate Canadians, but Americans only love themselves and will eventually learn that this leads you to behave selfishly and be hated.

Cool, let’s alienate the people who are also against this bullshit. I’m sure that will help.

One American to another, we need to recognize that most of our country either voted for this or enabled it by not voting. Most if us either support this malicious behavior or are apathetic to it. Sure. If you take a poll, most Americans don’t want the us to mess with Canada. But if people won’t even vote, then how do you expect them to take up arms to save Canada?

To be fair, you have to consider the large number of Americans disenfranchised from voting, precisely because they were demographics who would have voted against this.

Voter suppression is a real and serious problem. I still think most people too beaten down and busy to get out to vote, even if disenfranchised, aren’t about to help out with a civil war or do much to help fix the current regime.

Also consider the amount of influence oligarchs created to get their president to power, divide everyone and put blame on each other.

Americans seem to be mostly waiting for an act or God to fix this mess, so with that in mind it helps to remind them that no you do in fact share responsibility for this, if only by association.

If anyone feels alienated, deal with it. I’m not saying this to make an enemy but neighbors will get no cookies or pats on the back for doing the absolute minimum, then coming here tell us “on behalf of half of us, I’m sorry” and that “this is not us”. Yes it is, face it and deal with it. Do more and to better.

I like the energy but we need Americans to clean up their own yard while it’s still safe to do so.

Nut jobs think that they’re the majority because they are behaving boorishly in public and nobody is holding them to account. The quiet majority needs to organize and show them that undesirable actions have proportional and consistently negative consequences.

That could mean a lot of things. Big things like being a trans ally and showing up for demonstrations. Small things like not inviting your MAGA uncle to family occasions. But things they must be. The jackboots are winning because people are typing anger into a box then staying home to shop and watch Netflix reality TV.

Are you not supposed to have guns and have a bunch of people in the same situation to supposedly defend your people in case of government tyranny, instead of just letting this happen and apologize?

That’s fair.

I’m in the process of emigrating to Canada. I recently spent 5 weeks there and already miss it. So much stuff just feels so much more human.

One of my favorite small details is that Canadian bills have scientific achievements on them. A spaceship arm, a research vessel, and the creator of insulin are all on them. We get fucking Illuminati symbols instead.

No. Good people let this happen on their watch. The price of liberty is eternal vigilance and the people of the US were caught napping. You must take responsibility and act.

This is not the time to look for our forgiveness to make yourselves feel better. It is time to act. We will forgive later.

This may not be you specifically, but more than two-thirds of Americans directly or indirectly chose this clown as your president.

The fight you want to join? It’s already started. The people best positioned to stop this are being fired. The checks and balances are being removed or taken over.

Well, actually it’s one-quarter of us that chose this clown. See - funny story - the voting system is not compulsory and there’s kind of an equal measure of apathy and voter-disenfranchising that goes on whereby clowns make it harder for non-clowns to vote, and then a bunch of bizarro clowns claim voting is a scam or some shit, and then about a third of the population just . . doesn’t do it. For. some reason. (Sometimes valid reasons, but not usually.)

So we’re way ahead of you in hating those Americans who backed this traitorous demented rapist piece of shit, but it is only representative of us in that our fucked-up voting system makes it look like that.

Those of you that didnt vote are also complicit.

That one quarter represents one half of Americans, whether they’re disenfranchised or not.

You can’t absolve yourselves of blame, just because of the ‘system’.

You can’t absolve yourselves of blame, just because of the ‘system’.

“Every black person American is responsible for all the actions of any other black person American.”

The Americans who did vote against Trump are not responsible for this cluster fuck, maybe blaming them for things they can’t control isn’t helpful…

No one’s blaming the people who voted against him, we’re blaming the people who didn’t.

You can’t absolve yourselves of blame, just because of the ‘system’.

Sure as fuck sounds like they are blaming OP, with no indication that OP didn’t vote against Trump.

Those who couldn’t be bothered to vote against Trump, or who were too ignorant to understand why they should, can’t be counted on for anything at all - and certainly not to help stop the USA from invading Canada.

Your country voted for him. There was the possibility to vote for another candidate or to help convince people to vote.

You didn’t do enough.

Glad we found the one American responsible for the 200 million Americans who didn’t vote against Trump.

If only this 1 guy did more then Trump never would have been elected!

Isn’t it, though? Isn’t this how the USA has treated most countries smaller than it? Less wealthy than it? Less white than it?

Growing up outside of the US, this behaviour seems completely in line with how the country has always behaved on the international stage, just pointed at one of the “good” countries.

Trump is the average Murica, Fuck Yeah type that we meet online all of the time, and have for the past 30+ years. He’s the Yankee tourist that comes into our towns and expects us to accept their foreign currency, weather their patronizing questions, and cater to their idiosyncratic demands.

Trump doesn’t seem like a surprise to us. He seems like the natural outcome of a country that has tooted its own horn on the world stage for 80 years, that has glorified its military and its military might, that has waved the phrase “American Exceptionalism” at its own population without irony, and that long mythologized its history. Remember, fascism was popular in the US 90 years ago. The only problem y’all had with the Nazis was that they were German. I mean, if you use Ur-Fascism as a checklist, the USA checks off most of the boxes on a good year.

You might not be cognizant of that, but many of us living outside your borders very much are.

I don’t like what I see in the mirror most days, either. But I don’t get to deny the grey hairs and aging face. I sure as hell don’t go out in public shouting to the world “I’m not getting old; this greying, overweight man isn’t me!”

Obviously it’s the leafs and not the habs

This too shall pass. Canadians and Americans have always been friends (1812 wasn’t Canadians, it was the British) and shall continue to be despite the efforts of one madman. For now we just need to weather this storm, and if it comes to it, we’ll fight with you. We always have our friends backs, and we know that you have ours.

(1812 wasn’t Canadians, it was the British)

This isn’t accurate in the slightest. Fencible and Militia units were formed in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, and the Canadas (upper and lower) from local civilians, who fought in a variety of battles throughout 1812. These civilians were in fact called “Canadians” at the time as well.

And that’s to say nothing of all of the Native peoples of Upper and Lower Canada who aided in the fight.

Ultimately the British held command, but many, many Canadians participated and were involved as well.

You’ve been assigned the Leafs, as punishment.
