Whatcha all playing!

I played and rolled credits in animal well which was really fantastic. I am still looking for secrets! Also checked out caves of qud’s new UI update on the beta branch. It’s outstanding

Stellar Blade. Everything about it is good except the voice acting. Combat, exploration, visuals, music all very good. 👍

Just started animal well myself. Seems extremely solid so far. Excited to see what else the game has in store. Also has me excited to see what else big mode releases in the future if this is the bar of what they’ll publish.

Half life Haven’t replayed it since it came out annnnd…just got a new steam deck and have it hooked up to the TV & controller…

I just finished Immortals of Aveum. I really liked the story. Felt like an early 2000 science fiction action movie. It’s gorgeous looking but the shooting didn’t have enough oomph to be really fun, so I stopped playing after the credits rolled. Didn’t feel the need to 100% it.

I will look it up but please feel free to elaborate, it sounds cool.

It has a lot of Doom-like exploration for new gear and other goodies. Also a handful optional bosses which are pretty hard to beat. But the shooting revolves around basically 3 weapon types (magic types in this case): a DMR, an SMG and a shotgun. The variations thereof don’t feel different enough and the feedback lacks kick, so the shooting doesn’t feel very meaty. It’s still solid enough, but the story is definitely what carried me through the 20ish hours of the game.

Interesting. I heard the main character is insufferable. Would you disagree or is the story good in spite of him?

The characters are great. It’s not BG3 obviously, but there’s enough depth there. Like I said, it’s on the level of a goofy action movie plot from 20 years ago. No ones gonna get an oscar but you’ll be entertained nonetheless.

Super Mario 64 on my switch. Reminds me of great childhood memories.

Ghost of Tsushima, very good PC port. Also picked up Dying Light 2.

How is the PSN requirement?

I believe that’s required for multiplayer. Haven’t tried yet and didn’t need to login for single player.

So it’s optional. That’s nice to hear.

Okay, just finished Chants of Sennaar. That was a lovely experience. Reminded me a bit of my time a few months ago with Jusant, along with a touch of Journey and Heaven’s Vault thrown in.

Had to laugh out loud when I ended up playing a fucking mechanical crank handle version of Flappy Bird. That was pretty entertaining.

One puzzle completely stumped me, but some kind soul on the Steam forums (!!) had a really good explanation without giving away the actual answer to the puzzle, which I always appreciate.

Anyway, highly recommend for anyone who likes puzzle games, environmental and organic storytelling, languages and written script, and just an examination of history, culture, and how (ideally) we can all connect if we just listen to one another and find shared interests (there’s a particular interest that almost every culture in the game shares, which is something a lot of people IRL bond over as well; I found it pretty interesting because it felt so… quintessentially human).

What to play next? No idea. I think I’m done with intense action games for a while, so might find something else relatively chill to play.

I played and enjoyed Chants of Sennaar and Jusant in the last few months. A recent standout game for me was Tunic. Check it out, it might suit you well as much as it did me. It has fighting but if you want you can enable easier combat or even “no fail mode” (invulnerability) from the menu. The game has a ton of hidden secrets and puzzles while being pretty and friendly to look at like the other two games. It is a great experience with or without the combat parts.

Hah, I was actually considering Tunic! But I’m also a little mentally burned out, so I think I need to be in a bit of a different headspace, otherwise I’m going to ignore some of the more interesting parts like the little secrets and slowly revealing the instruction manual and all that curiosity-rewarding stuff.

It’s definitely on my “to play relatively soon” list, though, and thanks for the suggestion!

I was playing Rise of the Tomb Raider pretty much non-stop, a lot of fun. Gorgeous game and runs really well on my potato but…hehe Epic Games did something and now ROTR along with a lot of other games just appear as “OS Unsupported” in my library :) and after a little searching on the other site turns out everyone is having the same issue.

Oh well, atleast Epic Games gave away DRM free versions of those games so I can still play my copy

Still playing Jedi Fallen Order.

It’s an excellent game. It’s suitably epic and I’m enjoying the heck out of it.

That’s a really fun one. They did a great job with it.

Great game. The sequel, Survivor, is also really good, some technical issues aside.

I’m going to pick it up later this year for sure.

It’s a fun game. I just found I like story mode more than playing a Dark Souls game in the Star Wars universe.

Just beat Slay the Princess twice. Wow, really lived up to the hype for me. Excellent writing and art. Excellent… Format and pacing for a visual novel with a lot of different choices. The themes it explores are incredibly interesting and varied.

I heartily recommend it to anyone who enjoys a VN with a mysteriously intriguing story.

Diablo 4 season 4

How’s it going so far?? I haven’t tried any of the seasonal content but looking to get back into it

Season 4 has been the best so far. They made a lot of improvements to the game. It’s the most fun I’ve had with Diablo 4.

This is exactly where I’ve been for the last week, it’s insane just the sheer difference the changes they made have had on the overall gameplay.

It feels as if I went from playing the technical demo (season 3) of the game to the actual launch version (season 4) - which sounds dramatic but it’s the second time I’ve made it to WT4 (I usually can’t slog through this much) and never this early!

Reckon this is worth picking up on sale? I’m interested in it having played all the previous games, but I’m worried the battle pass and mtx is ruining it.

Now it’s been out for a few seasons what do you think?

They made a lot of changes this season to weapon crafting and modifying that’s made it much easier than previous seasons. There’s also a couple things that they made available across all difficulty tiers instead of the two higher ones. I haven’t looked into specific specs, but I believe they’ve also buffed a bunch of the skills.
I don’t know about mtx, but the paid battle pass is really only cosmetic stuff and doesn’t affect core gameplay, if that’s what you’re worried about. There are things called “smoldering ashes” which serve as season permanent buffs, but they are available on the free battle pass, so everyone gets those.

Horizon Forbidden West on PC. Such a good game.

Just started playing Zero Dawn and cannot believe I’m only getting to these games now

I never finished Zero Dawn but I’m about 40 hours in. Combat mechanics are wonderful. Doesn’t get boring for me. But the design of quests being numerous “run 3km this way, find a thing, get out” grows old.

I’ll pick it up again later down the road and finish it eventually.

I’ve been enjoying it but I will say the thing I’m annoyed about most right now is crafting to fast travel

Been playing Rebel Galaxy on and off a bit. It’s decent enough, think of it as a Freelancer lite, big emphasis on “lite”. It’s more “naval combat in space” than any sort of space game.

Also some Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, I really suck at it but it’s so flashy and fun!

@ICastFist @chloyster RGO kinda fixed that and everyone was like Boooh it’s not RG any more xD

…and then there was that exclusive deal that broke the camels back 🥲 Ded company.

I’m partially aware of people not liking Rebel Galaxy Outlaw as a sequel, though I never read into the whys, though if you can actually pilot in all 6 degrees of freedom, that’s a plus for me.

What was that exclusive deal? Something with Sony?

@ICastFist dunno, I missed all that by years and only found out after having a lot of fun with the game. Apparently it got so much hate that it’s lead dev changed industries. Real shame. Ah well, apparently he is happy now and that’s something too.

I just can’t put Hades II down! It’s not finished, and I’m running up against that more and more. But the polish is incredible!
