KSP with the realism overhaul mod and realistic progression 1.

I just never get over the beauty of seeing a dual centaur upper stage gently drift away from an atlas booster before lighting up those stunning twin blue flames, careening deep in to the abyss of space.

It used to be an old CCG called Alteil, probably have 1k+ hours on that. After playing bg3 this week, defs bg3, but I do have a habit of wafting around a bunch of crpgs.

You should try battlebit

I second trying BattleBit. It’s what Battlefield should be.

Morrowind

One of my two favorite games of all time. I wish I could unlearn how to play. Some of my best memories are scavenging for anything remotely valuable and finding myself somewhere I shouldn’t be at that level.

Looks at 1000 hours of Arma 3.

Just one more King of the Hill match.

Sea of Thieves with my SO lately, previously Earth Defense Force with her as well.

Lost mine already.
Used to be Team Fortress 2 (before becoming free and the hats), then Super Monday Night Combat (but it died), then I went from game to game but couldn’t fill the void, Trove sort of did it but then it got taken over by Tencent and the grinding got even worse (which was already very heavy), then Overwatch managed to get close… But then it went to shit (besides all the shit with Activision-Blizzard).

I’m still looking for something to fill that void, something where I can join a lobby/match, check the web between deaths and then go back to search for a new match and check the web while it happens.
Or something like Trove, something to grind that is simple/friendly, that I can take at my own pace (unless it’s some sort of special raid or boss) but sadly most of those games either require too much focus for a long-ish time (DRG or Gunfire Reborn , I love them but it’s tiring) or are just gambling disguised as games (fucking Tencent).

That’s summed up why it sucks so niche much when “that game” is online. Unlike offline ones, eventually they’ll die.

Well even if it’s offline it can “die” for me since we are talking about having a game that I can play all the time, and being offline usually means it has an end which I can only reach so many times before it gets boring.
In theory that’s what roguelikes or dungeon crawlers are for, but they either try too hard to be complex or give no time to idle/rest for a while (to not lose the flow of the battle), also roguelikes sort of make me feel uneasy because even if you can play like a god, it’s the RNG that decides if you have a chance at winning or not.

Online games can die in that way as well, so I don’t really see your argument. If it’s continued updates - then single-player (or self hosted) games can still get those (just as they can be pulled for online-only ones).

If it’s other players that keep you going - then look to games which support LAN or self-hosted servers. Then at least when the main server gets pulled, the community can take over.

The Binding of Isaac

Or Slay the Spire, if I want a turn based game.

You should check out Across the Obelisk, it’s a beefed up version of StS and I really think it’s heavily overlooked

It’s on my steam wishlist, now. Thank you for the recommendation.

Yeah it’s Europe 1400: the guild for me too. Love that game and can’t get behind the second or third game. I loved to play it over lan with my friends.

It has so much atmosphere to it, I don’t think any other game has truly replicated it so far. Haven’t tried the third yet but I heard bad things.

The third works but that’s it. It was a buggy mess when it got into early access but the second developer that took it over did good work.

You are right. The atmosphere and that you did not have to micro manage so much stuff made it into a really great and relaxing game.

1400 is a masterpiece. It’s a shame that the sequels went for this 3D sims styled gameplay. I don’t want to control the whole family. I want to control one member of the family.

I loved to play it over lan with my friends.

Or as a true Guild player describes it: “keeping save game backups and doing regular checks to figure out if the game state is still in sync”. “The Guild” was the reason I got a “It’s not a bug, it’s a feature” T-Shirt for LAN parties.

And don’t get me wrong: I am saying the game is SO GOOD it was totally worth all that trouble. I wish so hard for someone to release/leak the source code some time so someone with enough pain tolerance can try to rework the network stack. Or maybe a remaster of that game. It has a so much better feeling than its successors.

I would buy four copies if they would make a remaster/remake with the possibility to play over the internet. Damn… gonna install it again and I will start looking at creating a vpn server.

In my experience the sync issues get much worse over VPN. The implementation seems to be extremely timing sensitive.

Oh and over the internet you don’t have the chance to quickly look over to your pals monitors to notice that their current court hearing scene looks different from yours (at which point you can alt+f4 and look for the last good savegame).

thats a shame… Then i will have to play solo.

Currently, 7 Days to Die, though I don’t like where it’s heading.

It’s varied over the years and included Total Annihilation, Wow, Dwarf Fortress and Rimworld among others.

It was the sims 2 but after the sims dlc started getting ridiculous I ended up finding rimworld which I like much better.

Huh, rimworld is kind of like sims 2 if you think about it. You control a bunch of hapless goons, build nice houses for them, and orchestrate their tragic demises.

Stellaris. It’s been “that game” for me practically as long as I’ve been into gaming. I’ve got nearly 1000 hours on Steam alone.
